I think I'm one of the only ones to pick up on the fact that you kept quiet every time Pai would do her irritating winning speech. LOL! I picked up on that right away and thought it was funny as hell!
I have to disagree the graphics are still pretty good, same from what I remember, a classic, and might I add Lion was a BITCH to fight against I could hardly beat this slick mofo. This reminds me of another game you should review....FIGHTING VIPERS.
Me and my friends spent a lot of time back then playing this like crazy. My favourite character will always be Akira Yuki, when well managed it could be a tremendous fighter and almost invencible. No one could beat me when I pick him. It's still has the most incredible martial arts moves I ever seen. Too bad I can't follow the series, I won't buy a PS or a X-box just because of it and a few more games.
@Pimpczar2011 I dunno, but Tekken today is nothing more than juggle/air-combos, it's the other way around...
Virtua Fighter 4-5 have more weighty and realistic combos and actual tactics (each character has his/her own weight, the position of your character's legs have an impact on how the moves affect your opponent, some opponents are too heavy for certain combos/throws etc..).
Tekken is just "whoever gets the first hit in take away your entire lifebar with a silly aircombo".
@Pimpczar2011 Actually VF is still the most complex fighter out there, Tekken still remains rooted in floaty gameplay and even SF2 world warrior has it beat when it comes to been a serious fighting game, Tekken is just for Noobs but theres nothing wrong with that.
Bloody Roar was a lot of fun, but it's taking cues more from Fighting Vipers, and not quite as tight IMO. But I'm sure Mark would have a blast with it, as well as Last Bronx and Tobal 2 and hell... I'd love to see what he makes of Kakuto Chojin for that matter. lol
Does anyone else think the visuals in the Saturn version hold up better than the arcade? It's almost more like a 2D game that way, they did such an amazing job reducing the models to just what matters.
@pawnduit No way man, come on. The Saturn version is fantastic no doubt, but the arcade one with the detailed models and 3d backgrounds was the tits. Now that it's emulated on PC I really noticed the huge graphical difference.
@D31C1D3 Hey I dropped hundreds on the arcade, but what I really mean is that seeing the Saturn version it still looks about the same as in my memory. Whereas the arcade looked crazy amazing at the time, but any time I've seen it since those flat shaded polygons stick out harsh.
But then again I also seem have an automatic retrogression effect about anything on the Saturn, like getting transported back in time, I maybe see it through those same eyes.
@nooblet911 Well hey I already regret saying anything... but you still missed my point. I never meant to suggest the Saturn version is technically superior to the arcade (though I do think it's adapted impeccably) just that it "holds up" better by virtue of, shall we say 'lower expectations'. Or something.
I'll contrast it to Last Bronx for arcade Model 2 which still looks almost contemporary, not so much VF2, just IMO
But I also didn't even believe VF2 could turn out OK on Saturn till I saw it.
yeah, I know what you're trying to say. the saturn version was impressive considering the limitations of the saturn. but the arcade version will always be superior.
Aaah, memories. I may be young, but I can still remember this game in the bowling alley arcade. I never played it though, the spaceship shooters were far too much fun.
This game was soooooooooooooo smooth and it just flowed. For some reason the ringouts on this one are way better than the newer ringouts. Idk bout you all but that just something that bugged the shit outta me.
Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution is by far my favorite game in the series. It had everything the other games had, plus a million ways to taylor the experience to suit your style.

bought this today along with a sega saturn. I put the disc in and it goes to playing the games music like it was a music cd or something. wont let me play at all....
I remember when Virtua Fighter 2 was in all the arcades and movie theaters. A really good game. A little bit of dated graphics now, unless it is just because it is on the Saturn, but the game play is still there. And I loved the Drunken Fist and Mantis styles. They need to make a Virtua Fighter Vs Tekken game.
Ahh memories... I was about 6 years old, on a ferry to france at 4 am, freezing cold with my twin brother. everyone on the ship was up. my mum was having a cup of tea and gave us 2 pounds to go and play games, and there it was virtua fighter 2...

I want a Virtua Fighter 6 with online multiplayer for PlayStation 3 dammit!! I love playing Virtua Fighter 5, but the lack of online multiplayer kinda bites in this day and age of standard online connectivity.
this game has some of my favorite video game music ever.got this game bundled with daytona usa and virtua cop back when the saturn was dying out for $99 for christmas of 1996 i think.great console with great games.a timeless machine.
I bought my Saturn in 96'. During that time the systems marketability was waning and I was able to buy this game and also Daytona USA bundled with the system with two controllers for 199.99 USD. I still to this day think that I got a hell of a deal. Towards the middle of 97' I couldn't find anymore new Saturn games on the shelves at my local Electronics Boutique. I knew they were still being made but Elbo stopped stocking them.
@kdixon7783c I like that story. I think I remember that bundle. If you ask me this looks really good, look at that background. I really liked Saturn's feel.
@skeevystoner Have you ever played this console? Saturn had some great games but for some reason did poorly here in the states. I've since read that Saturn did much better in Europe. I'm currently looking for one on Ebay.
man i loved these games in the arcade. the GFX at the time would make any 90s gamers brains explode. They were so clean and fluent, the arcade was awesome back when you couldnt get 3D games in your home like the ones at the arcade, then came the psx, N64, saturn. I remember thinking "FINALLY" when I started up Mario 64 and saw the sick 3D graphics in my home for the first time. The good old days, nothing can compare to living through the video game world evolution. If you were only there ;)
@fuckcomments It's not because you got older that the evolution has stopped! I agree my fondest memories of gaming are Tetris on the Gameboy and Mario on N64, but on my PS3 Trine, Half Life the Orange Box and Mirror's Edge are truely groundbreaking efforts!

Please review Fighters Megamix for Sega Saturn. It's Fighting Vipers & Virtua Fighter 2 combined with some Sega AM2 characters thrown in as unlockable content.
this is the earliest game i remember playing. my uncle had a saturn when i was like 4, this and the daytona racing game. that and the 6-pak and virtual bart for genesis.
If you Tekken fans think Tekken is better than Virtua Fighter, because of Tekken being easier, then consider yourself gamers that dislike effort. Tekken is okay, but I think Virtua Fighter is better, not only it came first, but it's simply a more rewarding gaming experience and I feel like I have to really work to get the best out of it. Tekken, or indeed, SoulCalibur on the otherhand, offer very good results without having to try at the game (i.e. button mashing CAN and usually will work).
my sega saturn died on january 22nd, 2007. cause of death... my mom and sister threw it out. when i visit to peru this summer, i want to buy a new sega saturn, virtua cop 2, mortal kombat 2, and resident evil. i already have nights into dreams, virtua fighter 2, virtua cop, and daytona usa. why will i buy it in peru? it's cheaper.
I remember they made a big deal about the Bridge not being in Shuns stage for the Sega Saturn version then in all the sequels they removed the Bridge from Shuns level even in the Arcade go figure ? =P
I remember they made a big deal about the Bridge not being in Shuns stage for the Sega Saturn version then in all the sequels they removed the Bridge from Shuns level even in the Arcade go figure ? =P
Its obvious you can't compare old skool polygons to today but I think the game looks really good and still holds up today as when you compare other games from the same era they look like total shit next to this game. This game was amazing in its day in the Arcades and then when it came home to the Sega Saturn it was an amazing experience. Also the controls are super responsive which took this game head and shoulders above others available at the time.
why the feck can't people get the name of this game right? It's Virtua Fighter, a contraction of virtual persumably because you can't copyright dictionary words. You wouldn't mis-spell Halo with an extra 'l', it'd change the entire meaning of the word.
@tom11zz884 Your comment is the first ever on Youtube that mentions both consoles in the same sentence without ending in a fanboy rant about one or the other.

I think the music from this game far surpasses that of VF5. Whatever happened...?

I personally feel that these graphics are way beyond the polygon graphics of virtua fighter 1 and remix

Please review Fighters Megamix for Sega Saturn. It's Fighting Vipers & Virtua Fighter 2 combined with some Sega AM2 characters thrown in as unlockable content.

@djklink20009 to myself.. due to the game's Japanese origin, she is voiced by an actress speaking Japanese

you can always tell the difference between smart-sophisticated and shallow-casual gamers.
Just give 'em VF and Tekken, see which one they choose...you know what I mean

If you Tekken fans think Tekken is better than Virtua Fighter, because of Tekken being easier, then consider yourself gamers that dislike effort. Tekken is okay, but I think Virtua Fighter is better, not only it came first, but it's simply a more rewarding gaming experience and I feel like I have to really work to get the best out of it. Tekken, or indeed, SoulCalibur on the otherhand, offer very good results without having to try at the game (i.e. button mashing CAN and usually will work).

Sega needs to release a Virtual fighter mega collection for the xbox and PS3..that would be great.
Include every single virtual fighter game every made.

@tom11zz884
why the feck can't people get the name of this game right? It's Virtua Fighter, a contraction of virtual persumably because you can't copyright dictionary words. You wouldn't mis-spell Halo with an extra 'l', it'd change the entire meaning of the word.

The best Virtual Fighter game in the series..yes, it was even better than 3, and 4.
