Bush (well, it was really Cheney, wasn't it?) appointed people like Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Feith, all of whom have long advocated US military intervention in the Middle East, without provocation (ref: A Clean Break, Walt + Mearsheimer's The Israel Lobby). Bush himself, in 2000, ran on a non-interventionist foreign policy platform, and was actually chastized by certain Gore people for being too nativistic, uncaring about the world, etc.

And I think the image of America would drastically improve if the state stopped supporting Israel. If individuals and private companies wish to continue doing business with them, fine, but no state aid, and no US rhetorical support (in UN or other international forums).
