And what's up with Angel's voice here? Vanessa Hudgens is horrible all around. There are more than a million things that have completely failed in this could've-been-amazing musical. the problem with vanessa, who i love, in this show i think she sing like a half step lower or an octave lower, in la vie boheme, she kept at a high range which is what mimi is. if she did that throughout the show, she would get more positive remarks. for ex. light my candle, she couldve done way better, i think she just needs to stay up there cuz she does have the voice, just not using the right one.
This is good, I just don't feel the energy, maybe it's because I'm not there live. And I don't think this particular cast's voices really blend well together, it sounds like a high school glee club performing it instead of a group of professionals.

I like Aaron as Roger and I'm glad Tracie Thoms reprised her role as Joanne, but the rest are not cutting it for me. Especially Vanessa playing Mimi. Since Mimi is my favorite character.
This was good vocal wise, but it didnt have the right energy. I think thats mainly because of the slowed tempo of the song. At the beginning anyways. It sounds like it sped up near the middle/end of it.

Where is the edge? You can't do Rent without a hard rock edge, and it is sadly missing in all these clips. I'd call this the Disney version of Rent.Tempo does come into play in the edge idea as well... Rock needs to always be pushing the beat, but the band is consistently on the back half of the beat.
all the recordings of this recent depiction of this stage show are crap. zero energy. this has to be the best scene for vanessa hudgens she is pretty shocking in everything that has been uploaded so far to youtube.

I love Skylar, but this did not work for me. He has a great voice. I loved him is Spring Awakening. This just wasn't the role for him. His voice doesn't fit the character.
@Philliesphan804 the waiter was David Burtka...NPH's boyfriend. When they refer to "fruit" he turns to the audience and points to himself. Was hilarious. Nothing hilarious, however, were all the elderly HB ticket holders who left at intermission saying, "Well...that was crude." HAHA.

I don't know why, but I'm really annoyed with how the waiter sang the order:(. Oh, and I love Aaron Tveit, but he is just not right for this role, his vocals are just a little too clean cut. Also, too slow for this song. But overall, a prettygood performance, especially skylar astin, who I heard anwasnt very good, but i thought he was fine.
Other than a tiny clip of NPH, this is the VERY first time for me listening to someone singing Mark and Roger's parts other than Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal. It's...not as painful as I was expecting. (Yes, I'm melodramatic)
