Great advice, rather simplistic though. These are very obvious things that most people would not overlook. I would like to see you talk about how to tailer your resume to a certain position, or how to avoid being overlooked in the flood of resumes flying in as soon as the company posts a job.

The internet is great, you can email anyone, trouble is everyone else can too. That cuts your chances of interviews down substantially. Especially if the employer can't meet you in person and make a judgment as to weather you are a good fit. The internet has ruined everything to do with job hunting with these businesses online tests you have to take, including mandatory race information, which is illegal, not to mention who knows who you are really sending it to or if it even gets to them.

Something new I've discovered which really impresses employers is to have your own website. I'm not talking about a Facebook page, that's not going to impress anyone, I mean a real dotcom website. I got mine made for free at ultimateyournamedotcom - I've already had a few job offers since my site went live, I'm just trying to decide if I should go with one of them or wait to see if better offers come in soon.

While I don't think the advice given really speaks to the title of the video, the advice is good from a technical standpoint.  I really liked the presenter's style. Very good speaker and a nice, unassuming attitude. She doesn't come across as a know-it -all as people sometimes do when dispensing this kind of advice. It makes it much easier to watch. Very nice subtle accent, too, whatever it is. Looking forward to seeing her other videos.

@mazinm2006 If you're not getting responses and you feel you're qualified for the positions, then it may be the way you're presenting the information. A lot of times it's better to focus your experiences and shed off the irrelevant info to showcase your compatible skills.

Finding a job used to be simple. I walk into a place, fill out an application and then the manager interviews for a few minutes and then, if they liked what I had to say and such, then they would say, yes or no.

Now, the internet is a black-hole and if you send an application into cyberspace, you never hear anything, not even a yes or no....that is cruel. It is completely demoralizing because you don't know whether or not your efforts at all made any difference. CRUEL CRUEL.

Now, I am in the process of searching for another job. Basically, I am in the same situation as you are in. Before I was hired by my first manager, it took me nearly one year to find a job. I had no experience, however, I was willing to earn experience. It's really unfair.

It took me a year to find a job. A lot of places are hiring either temporary or part time. I filled out 80 applications for a large university and finally!!! Hired. Sometimes you have to put all your apples in one basket. For instance, you have to have a good basic resume, and I mean get some free help on doing a good resume. Believe me what I am telling you is based on experience.

So, a good resume is the basic.
