  • JUST KNOW THIS, WE LOVE THESE BROS OVER HERE IN THE STATES, MUSIC IS UNIVERSAL

  • Hamish Stuart on vocals simply amazing, this is the better version!

  • The greatest band to come out of Scotland. Just an awesome bunch of musicians.

  • @vicpur There good you would not believe they were from this country. If you never knew about that. You would think they were Americans of colour.

  • NED DOHENY !!!

  • good stuff from a somewhat underappreciated group

  • In a lot of CD compilations "One Hit Wonder" I always saw AWB with PICK UP THE PIECES........then you call yourselves MUSIC PROFESIONALS, theres more to AWB than 'PIECES......YOU GEEZERS

  • You are the Singer Hamish..You are the Band AWB!

  • tb conocidos como AWB!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chaka could have easily fit into the AWB!!! Their music is soooo Chakarish!!!

  • I saw AWB for the first time at 'THE BLACK SWAN' in Sheffield before they were really known, and a couple of times after they were a household name. One of the best concerts I saw them was with KOKOMO in Blackpool, WOW what a night......................................

  • AWB was more than Pick Up the Pieces. Check out A Love of Your Own. That's my fav. They were good doing the smooth stuff as well as the funk.

  • i like the softness of this and the fierceness of chaka. kinda reminds me of michael mc donald

  • I haven't heard this version in years. Great upload.

  • To my ears, I hear a lot of Frankie Beverly / Maze influence on some of the phrasing and tone of voice on the lead vocals. Great tune!

  • AWB was basically Chaka's recording band on her first few albums

  • excellent!! thx for post it:) great guy- Ned Doheny with AWB:)

  • man this is incredible

  • Saw AWB in concert with War one time, the best show I ever seen.

I stood on my feet dancing next to the stage for the whole show, at the end of the Show the drummer from War gave me his drumsticks.

  • Yea, no matter who' doing this song, it still sounds great

  • What have you done for me."lately?"

  • Wow. I never heard this version. I grew up hearing Chaka sing this. AWB- sexy, Chaka-soulful and makes you want to dance. Love both!

  • @mliorfido I had the pleasure of seeing both acts do this song live.....PHAT groove all the way around. AWB's version (original) is a bit slinkier, but both are gonna be classics.

  • nice song but still the song "for you, for love" still my fav

  • Ned Doheny wrote the song and performed the original, then AWB, then Chaka. No matter - it's a great song, a 70s gem, and just one highlight of those wonderful, soulful times.

  • Ned Doheny wrote the song and performed the original, then AVB, then Chaka.

  • I'll dance to this music anytime :)

  • I love AWB. They are, perhaps, the funkiest scotsmen to walk the face of the earth. However, Chaka Khan blew them out of the water on this one...

  • i didnt know they did the original

  • I totally agree, SweetDaddyBugg

  • I never knew that they performed this song, much less wrote it.

I grew up with the Chaka version and LOVE it.

But I must say this version is GOOD. It's right up there with Chaka's in my opinion.

  • wow... this is ill... i luv Chaka, so i prefer her vision, but damn, this is crazy rite here...

  • Love Chaka but I have to give it to the creators... AWB and most of all Hamish Stuart's voice just makes me fly!

  • I love this band and they have mad respect for my girl, Chaka. But her version is much better.

  • Before discovering Elvis, Col. Parker was reputed to have said if he could find a white man who could sing and dance like a black man, he'd make a million dollars. Judging from many comments here regarding the US Black Soul Music disciples known as AWB, I'd say Parker knew what he was talking about. No one is looking for a Black person who sounds like Meatloaf, The Partridge Family, or Nirvana...for very good reason.

  • I remembered this song in 1980! I loved this version as well as Chaka's!

  • Classic Hamish Stuart on vocals, this rates with one of my all time favorite AWB Ballard, and there are a lot more.

  • ahhhhhhh actually I love this song better than chaka khan version :D

  • Funky and smooth, just my thang!!!

Chaka did it nice...but I have to say this is the version for me.

  • Hamish could SANG!

  • Hamish stuart soulful vocals on this song is awesome, the original version is awesome coming from a big fan of AWB!

  • Wow! I didn't know AWB actually recorded this. I know Chaka once announced that Hamish Stewart wrote it. This one's very, very nice, very AWB-ish. It's just weird hearing it for the first time having grown up with Chaka's version. I also know Hamish Stewart worked on the "Chaka" album in 1978 and both Stewart & drummer Steve Ferrone worked on Chaka's self-titled album in 1982, so the Chaka/AWB connection was always there. AWB was and is one of the best and most underrated bands ever.

  • @hmsheppard they also performed together as well on the live dvd chaka khan did live at the roxy in the 80's if you ever get a chance you need to pick that up it is a powerhouse performance EVER SONG sounds better than the record i got the AWB live in montriux Jazz Festival..O My GOD..POWERFUL..here is the punchline-it was done in the 70's..amazing says uzipolo king of decatur

  • uzipolo: Thanks for the info! My favorite AWB joints are "High Flyin' Woman," "School Boy Crush," and "You Got It."

  • those are intersting selections brother and they are great songs for real thanks alot for that info as well AWB are a true band

  • Was this goddamn song ever played on the radio?

  • wow crazy to hear this version for the first time after growing up on Chaka's version

  • Far better than Chaka's! Sorry but I'm a purest. Nothing like the original I say.

  • Both versions are excellent! Chaka made the most famous version, but it only made AWB richer.

  • Absolutely love this song. Makes hairs on the back of my neck stand up whenever i hear it.

  • Hamish Danish Canish Sammich!

  • @relimes Funky soul at its best! I'm wanting to dance!

  • Man....Chaka version his energetic....but this is just laidback and smooth...like me on a hot summers day.....

  • This is overall a good classic song. But if you want a good hype version, then it's Chaka Khan. If you want a good mellow version, then it's AWB. Both versions are hot to me.

  • I don't know which one I like better. Both versions rule!

  • George Benson`s 'Turn your Love Around' sounds similar to this jam.

  • I think the two have different vibes. This is more smooth jazz, and CHaka's is more rock & roll-ish. I like both.

  • Agree!

  • Good song. they should have released this themselves. Chaka Khan then got a No. 1 out of it. This original is better than the cover.

  • Hello!

Yes my friend, the original is the group RUFUS & CHAKA KHAN exist in 1980?

  • No- Chaka did this on her solo album titled 'What 'Cha Gonna Do for Me' album, in 1981.

  • Word...AWB laid some serious grooves...
