I remember seeing this as a kid and the story was fascinating but I could never figure out what it was called, or what it was based on until I heard about the book just now. I've always wanted to see it again but no offence I'm older now I think I'll just read the novel.

It's an acquired taste. Unless you've seen it as a kid, it probably doesn't come off very well.

The animation maybe less than super for a feature film, but remember, not all animated films are Disney grade or style. To top it all, I grew up watching a lot of cartoons with similar styles, and for some reason I like them as much as any big budget animated movie.
