The most heartbreaking and heartfelt version of the song I've ever heard. No rendering makes me burst into tears faster than this one. This is the sound of a heart that knows what this song is all about, and that can only come with experience and age. This is what music is missing these days - the husky, heartbroken imperfection of a life well-lived, wrapping around your heart through song.
Judy's way with a song, her love for her audiences, is still unmatched. I doubt anyone could ever surpass this great Legend. And "if" someone rare does comes along with even a fraction of Judy's abilities to move an audience, they'll always described or compare this person, i.e."The next Judy Garland" meaning that, they're probably a very distant 2nd, behind Judy Garland. I never heard anyone say These words, "So& So, is better than Judy Garland. Not even her daughters ever sounded this smooth.
wonderful post, thank you so much, one of my favorite songs sung by one of my favorite ladies...Bea Arthur does a wonderful version on the golden girls
I love Judy with just a piano. It's as if she's singing just for you. Then, the combination of her, by then, world weary voice and this song make it a riveting experience.
It always surprises me how much Miss Garland could appear at least 15 years younger without the heavy performance makeup that she had to wear. In the hands of a professional, she still looked to be in her 30's in the late 1960's. Pretty lady!! A face to match the voice!!
I saw her perform this on her show - it was absolutely heartbreaking - as only Judy could sing it. I like how she is not in particularly great voice the night of this recording. She works it out well, like the trouper she was.
Hello...thank you for commenting...I'm glad you enjoyed the video...were you actually in the audience that night...or just saw it on TV...if you were actually there...it must have been wonderful...but I have to say I love Judy's voice on this...Judy had that throbbing and emotion in her voice like no one else...thank you again! :)
Judy gives a poignant performance of a great song .. .. She looks so reflective in the last photo from your tribute... Thanks again John for a very well done video :) Vince
Just great, John! My dad really liked playing this song on the piano and Judy sure does it terrific. Especially liked your photos of her; especially the fourth photo of her in color on the couch! Thanks so much for posting this!
I love the second picture! It's kind of a random one for me to single out I guess she just looks gorgeous and it's one I've never seen. Plus it's the Judy era I love most (1960-early 66). Thank you again cutiepants!
A great talent that left us far too soon. <3

One of the best songs ever written and judy sings it beautifully, such a shame how her life unravelled and she died so young.

Does anyone know why she changed the lyrics from the original;
What'll I do?
When I am wond'ring who
Is kissing you
What'll I do?

I wish someone had the sheetmusic for this version. The piano part is just perfect underneath galand and is much more moving than the original.

When I'm alone with only dreams of you
That won't come true
What'll I do
So simple...so sublime and heartfelt
