  • Damn, I wanted that ship!

  • I would have been one of the kids who didn't take the "invisible" part seriously.

  • wow that takes me back!

  • Is the announcer Mark Elliot (the voiceover for Walt Disney previews) at the beginning of the video?

  • I always wanted this toy. I only had a few of the action figures. Did it actually work well with the interaction of the tv show?

  • @a1nall considering technology at the time, it worked pretty well. you shot certain parts of the screen during certain segments. some of those zones were target and some were hit. depending on how you held the toy would depend on if it was a hit on your part or getting hit. there was a red button on the back of the jets that you pressed to tally your score. once you received 3 (or maybe 5) hits your little pilot got ejected and you had to start over.

  • Favorite toy as a kid, bar none.

  • haha i had this toy too. awesome!

  • dam i tell all my co workers about captain power, and they think im talking about god dam captain planet, which sucks when you compare it to captain power.

  • @greyfoxyo lmao, i still have the gun and the video tape... none of my friends remember this

  • @greyfoxyo

I remember it too,i wish they would bring it back. One time i mentioned it at a vintage toy shop and the guy thought i was talking about Captain Planet. Facepalm.jpg

  • i had this thing... and it was awesome.

  • That's the prefrosh kid from PCU

  • Actually, the ship does not fire any beams at all. It has a photo sensor on it that picks up a coded signal on the screen which determines 'hits' from either the ship or the enemies. The coded signal is probably different for presence of targets and enemy fire.

  • the ship determines a hit when you squeeze the trigger at the same times it detects a target (coded signal) on screen.

  • I think that the Angry Video Game Nerd should do a review of Captain Power. Most likely he'll have to go through all of eBay to get everything to do a review for it.

  • That's an excellent idea. . .That would be hilarious. . .

This was beyond awesome when it came out. . .too bad mine is beyond destroyed. . .

  • @1985Nebraska tonight his newest review came out and in the intro it showed the actionmax and him playing rescue of pops ghostly. so with luck he will review the whole system (since cpt.power really was the only good game) as it was kinda a P.O.S

  • @1985Nebraska they had a videogame for the IBM computers a while back too on a floppy disk. Don't have any idea how it looked, but I do have the cover for it scanned.

  • @1985Nebraska

I like A.V.G.N.'s reviews of video games, and video game systems. I think since Captain Power was the only video game to play in a VCR, why not review it? After all it was back in the days when VCR was the most common video source. Closest to DVD back in the 80s was Laserdisc, which were very, very expensive. Anyways, I'd also like to see him review this.

  • This is a rare thing, looks fun actually. And my first time seeing a Chris Young commercial,I liked it :)

    (Found by chris young's blog)

  • holy crap, were the beams really visable?

Mattel has to make this kind of stuff again, they would make a ton of money, even if they have to make new episodes of captain power

  • No, the beams were not visible.

BTW, I'd like a Captain Power remake (as a big budget movie) and a PC game better than a new TV series and toys based on the same concept.

  • my gosh, i cant believe i remember this commercial.

  • They had it on NON TV Mode in the video..how dumb! (The light was flashing while it was firing) I still HAVE ONE It came from Ebay,I kinda broke the Right missile off so now I only have one.. No Batteries...but it works!

  • I saw the other 'Captain Power' VHS game TV Ad, but not this particular one! Nice find!

  • You must have caught a mid-frame when the stroboscopic flashing was on the screen. Cheating though, no fun in that.

The toy does not detect color, only the flashing.

There's three flashing patterns: Captain Power "charge" (activated the Power Station toy) Bad guy "blaster" (registers a hit on your ship - your ship also transmits this pattern for offscreen multiplayer play) Bad guy "target" Shoot these to get points. Play the tape again and pause, you can see the 3 distinct patterns.

  • I had one in the day.

I used to pause the video and shoot the screen for maxium points.

    So long ago.

  • BELIEVE IT.

    luls

  • OMG! I totally remember that. And I especially loved the fact that Chris Young was in these commercials (Remember -- he was the nerd on Max Headroom! not to mention male lead in the "classic" 80's made for tv prom movie with Alyssa Milano: "Dance Til Dawn")

  • Now that I hear that jumpstreet theme I wanna find some old episodes on YouTube

  • when i was kid had a many toys of captain power now everything lost!!! But i still had a video vhs captain power Training

  • I distinctly remember watching it on Global TV in the afternoons. Maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but that's what I seem to remember.

  • It was on Saturday afternoons at 5:30 on Global.
