  • Thanks very much for this video! Just a quick question - would you usually sew up the closing of the magic circle or will it stay closed by itself? It seems quite secure to me. I'm using it for amigurumi stuffed animals and up until now I have been using a chain and sewing it up to keep it from opening.

  • @eavancork You can wait until you are sure everything is correct but you will want to knot and secure the beginning with this technique or it will come apart.

  • Ugh, i'm so confussseedddddd. I can get past the wrapping it around my hand, and pulling te string through, but i have now idea how to do a chain THROUGH the loop! I mean, what string are you trying to chain with?! Ughhhh, my head hurts -.-

  • very helpful thank you!

  • I love this! I like this especially because you used the rope which makes it so much easier to see! I now use this all the time but struggle often but now I won't because you made it so clear!

Thank you thank you thank you!!

  • my pattern says "magic circle 6" what does that mean?

  • is the technique the same for all stitches?

  • @pegschr It will be the same if you choose to use it with starting a round. Some instructions may have you starting with a chain. You can use the magic circle to replace the chain if you feel it will work. This is an example of flexibility in crochet.

  • Very confusing, I was going to do the cookie but didn't know how to do the magic circle. Is there another way to do the circle or an easier way to do the magic circle?

  • @KitKatKaitlin97 The magic circle is a replacement for the chain. When your instructions tell you to start with a chain and join or a magic circle, you can use either one of them.

  • this really help thanks!!!

  • @barbielovespinkinca You are welcome.

  • I don't get how you made the loop. The video cuts out from the first pull through you did to the loop already being made.

  • This is awesome!!!! Thanks for teaching me this!! I have never seen it done before, and you are a great teacher!

  • @stitcherintime Thank you! This technique can be a little stinker but once you get it, you will not forget how to do it!.

  • I have the hardest time getting the magic circle to start but once I get it I prefer it for any work in the round. But trying to start it agrevated the heck out of me.

  • I'm just starting learning how to make amigurumi dolls and thse sounds so much easer then what I was trying to do.

  • im comment 80, weird... but the loop method is great!!!!!!!!! WARNING, YUGIOH THE ABRIDGED SERIES RANDOMNESS: the loop method is SUPER SPECIAL AWSOME- NYEH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • confused!!! :S

  • This was PERFECT! When I made rounds using the chain 2 method, the hole would be oval-shaped or weird looking when I pulled it tight. The tail with the magic circle is a lot easier to hide as well. Thank you!

  • @naox You are welcome! :)

  • omg this is the best thing ever!!!!!

  • @jennibear7709202007 ok please help i still dont know which string you are pulling when you make the chain , is it the tail?

  • I hate the magic loop >:|

  • @DaddysGirl3181 You do not have to use it. The chain will work instead.

  • @tjw1963 I GOT IT!!! :D YAY!!

  • @DaddysGirl3181 Great!! YAY!!

  • Hey Theresa I'm new to crochet and have heard about the playlist you have for beginners. I want to go ahead and see it. I'm at your channel but not sure where to start. Your videos are all just so helpful!

  • I've tried everything, I cant!

  • awsm! i finally see that you go UNDER the loop to grab the string from the back. i'm now ready to watch your tutorial on making the crochet bears!! Thnk U! Thnk U!

  • I cant seem to get the hang of it! Any tips?

  • i cant do it :( ugh

  • For the half double crochet, does the ch 2 count as a stitch?

  • I did it! I'm learning so many techniques from you! I've done so many hats & scarfs for my family and they love them. thanks to you.. =)

  • @isa4evr I have thrilled to hear about your success!! Keep up the great work!!

  • Thanks for using such a big rope! It makes it easy to see what's going on! 8D

  • @psychoticanimosity You are welcome! :)

  • whats the poing of making such a complicate thing for real...

  • I really like the black and white contrast because it makes it easy to really see what your doing. Though you go fast in the beginning, you go too fast after you start. Also, there is a frame change in the video and it looks like you've made another loop that wasn't recorded.

  • @christeeyum I will send you the beginner crochet stitches.

  • It's funny- something that seems so hard is actually very simple. To those still confused- just watch the video with some yarn in your hands. Pause it after each step. Make sure, MAKE SURE, that what's in your hands looks like what's on hers! Watch it and pause it as MANY times as you have to and don't get discouraged. Just keep on practicing! It's such a simple, and extremely useful, technique!

  • Thank you so much for teaching this! I've seen patterns that call for it and I wasn't sure exactly what they were talking about. You've made learning this sooooo easy!!!

  • give up.

  • i need a left handed vision, are there any ?

  • @babybambam86 Yes I do have a left hand version! I will find it and send it to you.

  • I see how you do it but when I do it and try to drop it off my hand I have a hard time holding the yarn in the circle and grabbing the stitch with the hook. the yarn seems to spin around on the hook. Maybe i need thicker yarn or just need to practice. I really want to use this way of doing rounds because it seems to make a nicer and tighter finish.

  • @Ladylasil This is one of those techniques that will take practice.

  • im so confused. i think i'm doing stuff right but when i try to do the loop it comes out wrong

  • Thanks a ton Teresa. I was struggling to learn this magic loop but ur video made me feel stupid for not getting it earlier! Its so easy when I learnt it thru ur video. U really r a wonderful teacher!! :)

  • @1rajimrv Thank you. You should never feel stupid because everyone struggles with some part of crochet at one time or another.

  • Thanks a ton Teresa. I was struggling to learn this magic loop but ur video made me feel stupid for getting it earlier! Its so easy when I learnt it thru ur video. U really r a wonderful teacher!! :)

  • i swear no matter what i do i cannot start a freakin circle

  • @conversechick09 You can also chain to start your project.

  • I get lost when she says "at this point you can drop it off your hand".

  • This was awesome. I must say that I've never heard of this stitch but I can see it's usefulness now. Thanks SO MUCH for this video...

  • @backstagesoul You are welcome.

  • I've read instructions so many times for making one of these. And NONE of them made enough sense. But your videos always seem to make the most confusingly worded stitches and tricks seem obvious and easy. It's pretty much due to your tutorials that I've learned everything I know about crochet. Thank you so much.

  • @DanceHavoc You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • i get it now!! thank you so much! you have taught me a lot and i greatly appreciate it!

  • @goddessroxie I am glad that it makes sense.

  • Wow, I've tried to comment twice and it's still not working on your video! :^(

Well,, if this goes through, here is my question: Oh, I apologize for asking this here, but your blog won't let non-account holders post.

I have copied your written instructions to take with me while I make my -- your :^) little bear; however, I would like to indicate on it, where I change colors. Am I missing it or??

    Thanks!

  • very good viedo.i am going to go try it right now.

  • Thank you for all of your patterns and tips. I'm am still only a beginner in the crochet world and your videos have helped me so much. Keep up the good work!!!

  • Thank you, I appreciate the comment.

  • what do you accomplish with this? what kind of pattern do you use it in...I've never seen this before...but you make it look easy to do :o)

  • It is an alternative starting technique for projects made in a round. It can be used with hats, doily's squares, and amigurumi toys.

  • okay! I can see how that would work well..thanks alot.

  • ekmom76: it's another way to crochet in rounds, you can close the hole almost completely, if you want; especially helpful if you're stuffing something, like a toy.

  • Great tutorial thanks. I think if you already know how to crochet this is a great technique to learn, however, if you are new to crochet, you might be better off learning the basics first and then coming back to the magic loop - it will make so much more sense. Thanks for sharing.

  • right 00:56 i go dyslexic again i don't get how some thign SO simple and easy to understand is SO impossible with my hands

  • I still dont get it :S how can you get a full round then and wich of the crochets do i need to use cuz ur doing more

  • I am sorry, I do not understand what you are asking.

  • I got it nvm,.. but still have to figure out the rest.... maybe i just need to pick up a book on crocheting and understanding the definitions cause i just keep getting confused.

    Any recommendations for books/web pages?

  • BubbleTenshi: If you were using a regular yarn, it would pull closed all the way so that you'd have a round piece. To continue, you use the first crochet you made into the magic circle (which will be right next to your hook at that point), and you crochet as normal.

I hope this is what you meant.

  • Love the magic circle!!

  • thank you so much for making such a great, easy to follow tutorial :)

  • You are welcome. :) Happy crocheting.

  • Thank you Thank you Thank you You are the only one I could learn from! I liked the bigger view

  • You are welcome. I appreciate the comment.

  • Thanks Teresa for this video, I've been having a real hard time trying to figure out how to do this.

  • You are welcome. :)

  • What is this magic circle used for?

  • It is used for pulling the beginning of a crochet round nice and tight so there is no hole. It can be a replacement for the chain.

  • this is the hardest thing for me. seriously I've watched like 5 different vids and can not get it. I did it once and can no more repeat it. ugh.

  • What is happening that is giving you trouble?

  • oh well whenever i did it it would not tighten. and when i'd pull it apart there was a knot in it. but i've figured it out now.

  • Am i right in thinking that this is essentially a very loose looped slip knot?

  • It is not knotted. If you pull in the wrong direction, you can pull the tail right through the stitches and they will fall apart.

  • oh thank you!!! I cant learn without a video for this one! I did it! yay!

I'm trying amigurimi :D making a rabbit for easter!

  • I cant seem to figure out how to crochet into the circle without bringing the circle onto the hook.

  • Drats! I keep losing it when you drop it off your hand in the beginning. Okay, I can do this. I love the way you teach! I could learn anything if you were the instructor! Thank you!

  • You are welcome. When I drop it off my hand, I am pulling the thread up my main ball of yarn, to pull it through the loop on my crochet hook. This is securing the loop so it will not fall apart. I am still able to slide the loop.

  • thank you!!!!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • You make this look sooo easy, thanks. Can I ask what do you use this loop for? excuse my ignorance.

  • You are welcome. This is to replace the chain start. You will get a nice tight closure with this technique. It is an alternative way to start a foundation made with rounds.

  • awesome

  • Thank you. :)

  • Very easy to follow. Thank you! I've looked at printed illustrations and never have figured this out. Now I can!

  • You are welcome. :)

  • THANK you--I haven't been able to figure this out on my own!!!

  • You are welcome.
