Looks as if he had turned left and continued his original glide he would've cleared ok. When he really dropped, around 0:15 is when he quit flying to deploy. Not second guessing from my armchair because from his pov he must have felt he had reason to deploy where he did, but it came close to doing him in, for sure.
Finally!! some out takes.. all I've seen are vids on how sick it is and how easy these people make it look.. but there is definite danger in doing it. THAT could've been fatal... thank god nothing happened
Looks like he lost a lot of lift on the other side of that feature, had almost no forward airspeed. Good choice, didn't hesitate once he realised what was happening, and pulled.
Sure! I understand that. I was doing skydiving way-back-when until that got - believe it or not - boring. I concluded that if I'm going to keep the rush up I'd have to increase the risk. And a while later increase it again and so on. That's when I decided to end the game. Not that I don't miss the rush. Just found out that life is too important to gamble with for my part. And yes, you do have a point: Others have the same right to enjoy their life their own way as I have with mine.
@elmerexpress - I never questioned or objected the way you enjoy your life. I simply stated the fact that everyone has the right to do so in their own ways.
Well if you used to skydive way back, until the point where you got bored, then you should be experienced enough to understand that he did not pull that low on purpose to get some extra rush or something, he stalled the suit, maybe he was unlucky, or not experienced enough - either way, he did not intend to do that.. The canopy inflated really quickly, for terminal jumps like this it should snivel a bit longer I think, so he emptied out his luck jar on this one for sure.
BASE jumpers pack their canopies the same way a reserve would be. I'm sure you know they are supposed to "POP" as resorting to the reserve means jumpers NEED as much altitude as possible...a sniveling canopy for BASE would kill many people. A lot of people focus on what could've happened "If he would've pulled later, blah blah blah." I say he was expereinced enough to know that he was in an unrecoverable situation with some kind of intervention and did the right thing. I applaud him.
Can anyone with experience ( even though a small hand full of people have it.) explain what exactly went wrong here? Did he not have the right angle as he was flying or something?
Basejumper want to spend close to people but flying high, brakes too wingsuit and ¡¡¡ SURPRISE !!! glide ratio plummets.....fortunately has height just to open his parachute.
really? so rigging slider down not only speeds up deployment of the canopy but also creates a more stable deployment with minimal risks of line twists. what are the pros of packing without the slider? thank you for the information.
yea thanks to all the adviced ive recieved from guys here on youtube slider up does minimize risk of line twist with the cons of having a bulkier rig and a slower deployment time of the canopy.
Basecanopies opens faster. And he is using a basecanopy. The faster the slider comes down, the faster will the canopy open. If he had used a regular canopy that you use from planes, he would have died. When you are jumping from a plane you have time for a slower and more comfortable opening.
I'm not skydiver/base jumper yet but I'm sure the whole point of slider is to soften/slow the opening of the canopy as it slides down, therefore if it's down, the canopy will inflate rapidly.
A wingsuit works just like a glider or a normal plane. Forward speed gives you lift to stay up. This wingsuit pilot basically flew in a wrong angle giving him too little forward speed, causing him to lose his lift and start dropping like a rock.
They jump from an edge bellow the peak called "Bispen", and for a few seconds they are hidden behind a part of the mountain before they are once again visible and pass us by with what it sometimes seems like just a few feet away.
was it intentional to drop that suddenly?

Being packed slider up does not mean your rig is bulkier in fact nowadays with ultralite canopies and low profile containers it's quite the opposite
