@horselover8408 I don't think so. You might get some oldies that no longer trim their own nails and you'll have to cut them back. But a healthy strong rat will take care of it themselves.

@horselover8408 I know this is old, but typically rats do not need their nails trimmed like how you do with dogs. Their nails do have to be filed, but typically a hard surface like a lava ledge or lava rock or even a plemith stone is enough to keep their nails good. i didn't do that with my rats till recently and my little dumbo got talons. if your sensitive to rat nails (thats what causes red itchy bumps) its best to do this.

@ZachWebbEX Unfortunately no. The average lifespan for rats is 24 months. I did however with good care and the right food balance have almost all live beyond 30 months and another handful live to 40+ months.

where do you get rats? i live in wichita kansas and there are no pet stores that sell them. i don't know of any rat rescues or breeders and i wouldn't know how to find them if there are any. help! Petsmart has a few but most are hairless and i'm looking for rats with fur. lol

You're best bet would be to join some rat forums and looks up shelters and rescues... there might be some that are close to you or that can get to you.

how do your males get along? i thought males usually don't get along very well like they fight and stuff...idk

All my males get along well. If they show any sign of aggression, I get them neutered. But mostly they don't. If you can intro rats when very young, they will not fight. When they are adult it's a little trickier but honestly, I've never had two males really go at each other during intro. I'm pretty good at watching their body language.

They are easily trained to use litter boxes both inside and outside the cage. At least mine were.

haha I used to have that many... rescued a litter of pregant girls once :-o But have a child now and only 7 rats as it does take a lot of work too keep up with 'em all..

But she's getting older now and learning how to play with them gently... so ya never know... Might start rescuing again! lol
