  • everyone has a teacher is annoying and cant teach, i have on her name is ms.wilson she thinks she can teach but the reason why her other classes pass is becouse they copy each other without the teacher seing

  • Thank you!!! Now I get it!

  • my math teacher sucks...she called my mom like 20 times...for signing my name on a piece of paper

  • Thumbs up if u hate ur math teacher

  • Do you have a video of solving system of equations with 3 and 4 variables? Id rather use the substitution and elimination method

  • This is my school.

  • like this if you are on here during your week of finals at school

  • Hi, amazing video just one thing on question two why on earth do we have to minus 6x? i really dont understand this. Other than that everything else is brilliant :) x

  • when you have two opposite signs dont you have to subtract??

  • so would y for the 2nd part of the first equation be 1 or -1????

  • i forgot how to do this but within the first 20 seconds of your video i was quickly reminded and was able to finish my homework :) thanks mr.hansen!

  • You need to watch my part 2 video!

    my channel is Hansen48066

  • I have the lines 2x+y=2 and 3x-2y+10

what do i do?! Adding/subtracting won't cancel out any of the variables :( :(

  • every vid has them doing easy problems

  • i thought the guy said "welcome back to HANDSOme...blah..blah..blah" yeah, sorry about that hansen

  • how did u get the x variable = 3 ??

  • Thank you for the help :)

  • ahh tnkss so much!!!!

  • Hey why do my teacher shows longer operation your like short-cutting damn you teachers i now not hate math instead i'm hating my teacher

  • Why aren't you my math teacher!?

  • My teacher sucks but you rock.

  • thanks this helped me study for my exams

  • @thetopmeowzer Same.

  • Thanks so much! This really helped me study for my final!

  • omg thank you so much! My teacher don't know what he's doing... wait but what if you don't have any similar coefficients?

  • @wendy5640 If 1 of your variables doesnt have any similar coefficients, you must multiply the whole equation out by whatever the coefficient of the other equation is. EX 3x+4y=-5 and x-5y=-8. You distribute -3 to x-5y==8 ( -3[ x-5y=-8] and u get -3x+15y=24. you then add the 2 equations, which equals 19y=19. 19y/19=19/19. y=1.

  • what if none of the equations have coefficients that are the same

  • You explained this better than my science, math, and English teachers. Not even some of my smart friends could. Thank you sooo much!

  • Thanks for this video, it helped a lot. My only question(rather silly one at that) are you using a Red G2 by Pilot?

  • This helped sooo much!!!! You saved my life!!! (well maybe not that dramatic but I still love you!)

  • thanks better than my teacher

  • there is just on problem with this video wen u get into the ninth grade sometime both the coefficients dont match up so perhaps u would like to show us all how to make them match up by multiplying i do like this video it joged my memory again and got me back on assignment so i do have to thankyou

  • there is just on problem with this video wen u get into the ninth grade sometime both the coefficients dont match up so perhaps u would like to show us all how to make them match up by multiplying i do like this video it joged my memory again and got me back on assignment so i do have to thankyou

  • this guy just made my life sooo much easier! thank you!

  • I am in 8th grade and you explain alot better and thank you you are better than my teacher

  • YOU SERIOUSLY ROCK DUDE

i have not been able to get this since my teacher taught this and my grades dropped to an F coz i didnt pass my test but just this one time i watch this i know EVERYTHANG i just wish i could go back in time and watch this sooner

  • what about fractions

  • thank you, are you canadian?? sorry

  • THANKS SOOO MUCH!! :) BETTER THAN MY TEACHER AND THEY TALK ABOUT IT FOR HOURS AND IT ONLY TOOK YOU 3 mins! AND I GOT A BETTER UNDERSTANDING!

  • OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I didn't know that you could subtract it tought addition was the only method

thank than you so much my exam is tommorow i would have been screwed withought you!

  • @xRABEE123x

did u do good on ur exam lol

  • im asian so i can do this

  • thank you but when you get the x on the first equation you should show how to get afterwards! :)

  • @MsTbreezy24 show how to get the y

  • thanks

  • thanks soooo much i've been lost in my algebra 2 class since i first got there. The way you explain it is much easier

  • this is the way my teacher explains it :0

but this video still helped me

  • thank u

  • haha jeff said that. JDtheAmazzing is a silly boy a part of our group. dont worry were not mocking him

  • So what do you do if you have an equation that doesn't have a number in the top or bottom equation that match? Is there a way to do the elimination method without matching numbers? I ask because my workbook is telling me that I need to solve by elimination and there are no matching numbers. Here's the problem that I have been given:

    3x+y=17

    4x+2y=20

Help would be much appreciated! I'm totally stumped!

  • What do you do if neither have co-efficients with like numbers...I think I phrased that right. Like this equation:

    6X-2Y=11

    -9X+3Y=16

    Niether have the same co-efficient

  • @JDtheAmazzzing Step one: shut up.

  • @akwardwithemphasis Step 2: Realize that he asks questions to pass and not shutting up to fail.

  • awesome help thanks so much

  • very good explanation! helped me do all my hw! :D

  • how to do if its like this -14=-20y-7x and 10y+4=2x and another one 3+2x-y=0 and -3-7y=10x

  • Thanks! Helped me alot. :D

  • ur awesome, ur voice is slower than my teacher which helps me out alot, thanks. Ur great

  • my teacher is dumbass i like your explanation alot better!!!

  • thank you so much!

you teach way better than my teacher hahaha!

  • I wish my math teacher could explain as simple as this.

  • thanks so much u really helped :)

  • I agree alot better then my math teacher and she spent the whole period teaching us and I still did not get and but after watching your 3 and a half minute video I understand it completely

    Thanks man!!!

  • so much better than my teacher

  • ah thank you so much !!

  • man your awsome thanks the explenation was waayyy clearer then my teachers thank you

  • I get a question like this, 3x+Y=7 and 5x-Y=9, if I add it all up I remove Y and get 2x=16 because I am suppose to "subtract", but its making no sense at all. But if I added, It too would not make any sense because I would get 7x=16, divide that and you get 2.3(rounded from 2.2857)

  • never mind, made I mistake

  • lol well if you got 2x=16, x would equal 8 wouldn't it? Then sub x=8 into one of the equations and solve for Y.

  • @weissgyz yes... been behind the book too long lol

  • @DjCroatia1993 lol :P

  • then 2.3 is your answer

  • HOLY CRAP, you rock!!!, 50 times better than my teacher, I love how you keep the steps short and simple, but my teacher lectures it, and it gets old, and I don't learn... but anyway THANKS!!!

  • to help kids out , or whatever.

when you get to 5x = 15 . you should show the division part .like put /5 under 5x and /5 under 15 .THEN ya get 3 , which is x (:

thats my opinion most people are visual .

  • I agree with you. I had to cut corners to try and get the video to a minimum file size. Also, I *assume* most students at this level can solve a one-step equation implicitly. Thanks for the feedback :)

  • you are awesome, you teach about 10x better then my teacher

  • its funny cause i had no idea how to solve elimination problems before this and in the first 28 seconds (no joke literally 28 seconds) of the video i understood perfectly now i can blow threw my homework like nothing thanks!

  • I must be learning impaired because i got my teacher to explain itto me 100 times and still didnt get it.. Then I looked up your video and i started to understand it a bit better but still not quite, tyvm for this video : )

  • Im in 9th, and my teacher doesnt explain things. He just says the basics, doesnt go over the problem, and just sends us off. He says just read our book. Thanks a ton, Hanson. You made that so much easier to grasp.

  • freshman evrywhere thank you

  • Thanks for doing this it just helped me.

  • +2y-4y= -2y (not 6y). Otherwise, good explanation Hansen48066.

  • It was actually 2y - (-4y) which indeed

    equals 6y.

  • What is the answer for X? When I went to verify, I got a fraction.

  • me too..well i used a calculator so i got 3.6

  • dude ur my hero. my math teacher has the worst axcent and i cant understand shit

  • what if you sitll have a y left

  • Thank you so, so, so much. You've pretty much saved my math grades this year so far. I've always had trouble with math but your videos are helping me through the rough times! Thanks again!

  • nice man

    thx

i really know how to study math :D lol

  • you're seriously better than my teacher ! HAHA, yey! thank you! :D

  • Ty so much man, I have been trying to figure out how to solve this problem for maybe 3-5 days. Should of looked at youtube first XD

    Thanks again 5 stars :]

  • have a quiz tommorow and I can do this all in my head but my teacher is all about work so thanks for explaining it to me because I always get all the answers right but never show my work so I get a bad grade. :(

  • My teachers were like that too =/

  • Thank u so much! I'm doing Summer homework so thanks.

  • yeah me too, i should have done this stuff in june when i remembered it.

  • THANK YOU!

    your better than my teacher!...lol

  • thanks you saved my ass! :)

  • gee thanks man u totally saved my life!

  • thanks alot xD my teacher knows the material but dosent know how to teach students.. (to much screaming) thanks again =)

  • my physics teacher is like that she is so... uh.... she screams at us like shes gonna turn into da HULK!!!

  • says who? what rule book says MATH SHOULD ONLY BE DONE IN PENCIL??? Get a life!!!!!

  • Math is much more fun in pen.

  • lol you need to take the regents in pen...

  • I wasn't chosen to take the regents this year, which pisses me off.

  • lol I'm in eighth but our school district treats all our main classes as a high school course so we need to take the finals and if we fail it's summer school XD

  • I'm in eighth as well, but our district doesn't do that, thank god. Good luck, lol!

  • CORRECT :D

pencils suck, pens = ownage :D

  • Thanx alot man keep on doing really help me understand

    much love to you

  • thank u =]

  • Yes, You can...

    Well I'm not sure neither

But when I get the answer

and is a fraction my teacher doesnt say anything

Well he just want us to change it to a mix number :)

  • Misslilpunk (1 month ago)

    Yes,

    You can...

    Well I'm not sure neither

But when I get the answer

and is a fraction my teacher doesnt say anything

Well he just want us to change it to a mix number :)

    wrong person..

  • The equation is:

    6x+2y=-8

    6x-4y=-10

    Is the answer is:

    x=1/3 and y=3?

  • grr im not 100% sure but someone told me u cant have fractions in the answer...

  • thank you so much! :D

my math book doesn't explain elimination with subtraction very well, so this really helped. (:

  • hey, i need help with solving linear system by elimination.

    8x-5y=15

    4x-2y=-9

I already found y. but i cant find the x value.

    please help me

  • y = -33. Sub into either equation. example:

    4x - 2(-33) = -9 which leads to 4x + 66 = -9

    Subtract 66 from both sides to get 4x = -75. Thus x = -75/4

  • oohh i get it now

    thanks alot Hansen!

    can u show me how u got y = -33 because i got a different answer than -33.

    thanks again.

  • I multiplied the bottom equation by -2.

So, you have -8x + 4y = 18. Now you add the two equations and get -1y = 33. Thus y = -33. Try it paper and pencil!

  • alright i just did it on paper, and i fully understand it now, thanks alot , u really helped me.

now i know what im doing

    thanks again.

  • Actually, it should be written out as 8 - (-10). Subtraction is the same as "adding the opposite." Therefore, we have 8 + (+10). That is why the result is +18. Hope this helps.

  • far out dude, u talk exactly like my maths teacher, thnx u helped mate.

becuase i knew how to do it but i needed to refresh, u know how it is :). thank you

  • Oh ok I get it now, thanks alot!

  • Multiply the second equation by 3. So you'll have 15x - 3y = 39. Add both equations and the y-variable will drop out. 17x = 51.

  • Can someone help me with this one?

    2x + 3y = 12

    5x - y = 13

I don't get how to eliminate since after the first step there's still X's and Y's left.. Thanks much.

  • Damn fine job.

  • Thank you so much Mr.Hanson this helped me so much!

  • bUT IT HELPED XD

  • BIG WORDS!

  • Thank you Mr. Hansen...

  • ty helped me alot

  • Thanks for posting this man, it helped me out a lot with my homework.

  • hi hanSen,

  • hello Mr. Hansen, ive been watching all of your vids..How do i solve 3 equations?

    3x+z=0

    3x+2y+z=4

    9x+5y+10z=3..just dont know how to

  • I have also e-mailed a more detailed reply. Best of Luck!

  • Thank you Mr.Hansen, this tutorial rules!

  • thank u again!

  • mr hansen..dude this helped gaaatcho style!!!

  • I have been studying for my finals also and this video helped me for my Final exam in math. Thank you!

  • I'm studying for my finals and you really helped me alot in reviewing previous chapters that i forgot how to solve.

  • wooow , you've really helped me improve in my 8th grade math class (: ! but perhaps , if using:

    2x-3y=8

    3x+2y=-1

how would you do this? but the question also says, use the addition method? can you please help me?

  • Find the least common multiple to eliminate either X or Y. Focusing on Y, multiply the top row by 2, and the bottom row by 3.

    4x - 6y = 16

    9x +6y = -3

Now, if you add like terms, the Y-variable will be eliminated.

    13x = 13

    Solving for x, you get x = 1

I think this answers your question.

Have a superb end of the school year. Best of luck as a Freshmen next year!

  • Thank you SO much for this. I am studying to take the ACT after going to a, shall I say, less than educational school? I'm teaching myself some new things and reviewing a lot of others. I tend to overwork or over-look things,- sometimes the obvious, haha. This video really helped me and I very much appreciate it! You taught me more in about 30 seconds than my entire 6th-12th grade years. Sad, huh?

  • Thank you, Mr.Hansen. This helped me a lot. I subbed u.

  • damn mallgrave shouldve just showed us thus vid

  • Thanks so much for making these videos! I was really struggling in math but you've helped me a lot. :)

  • man thanks a lot ur awesome :D my teacher doesnt know how to teach thanks :D

  • ok i love u now! i was so confuzzled b4 now. my math class thanks you because no one understood it til i called everyone and told them about your video.

  • Wow - thanks a lot. What a nice compliment :)

  • bow down to the masta

    *bowing bowing*

  • wow u have helped me a ton,but how on earth would you do one that has fractions for x and y? tia

  • Off the top of my head, I would generally multiply the equation (all the terms) through by a multiple that would eliminate the fraction if possible. Here's a simple example.

    1/2x + 3/4y = 5

if you multiply through by 4, you'll rid yourself of the fractions.

    4[1/2x + 3/4y = 5]

    thus...

    2x + 3y = 5

then proceed as usual. Best of luck!

  • thank you dude you rock!!!!!

  • what if u have 3x+y=20 x+y=12

  • try plugging in a one if there is just an x or y. (1x) or (1y). hope this helps.

  • omg i finally understand this , i been going through night how to understand this Thank you!

  • Thanks SOOOOOOO much. I missed my class notes today explaining it and i thought i was in trouble for homework. THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!!!

  • I'm lost when you find the X or Y part after you found the first x or y part.

  • this helps for my midterms thanks alot

  • thank you!!!!!!!!

  • thank you u really help me understand how the to the systems of equations *elimination*! man i wish the text book can explain better

  • thanx man helped me out

  • thanks so much
