  • You can't BEAT a bit of good quality carpet! - Rock On Tommy!

  • Budgie Was Formed In 1967 Rush's official incarnation was formed in May 1971 consisting of Lee, Lifeson, and Rutsey. Pert Joined In 74 The Year They released Their first Album By 1974 Budgie Already had THREE Albums Under Their Belts and their fourth album In For The Kill Was released that year. People often accuse Budgie Of Being A Rush Clone But History Suggests Otherwise. Forget The Comparisons, and marvel at the geniuses That Is Both Rush And Budgie

  • lucky Bob Harris to witness that eh!

  • i always love budgie great band.

  • This is better than the album version.

  • Holy Smoley :-)

  • Effortless guitar style, love it.

  • Most underrated band ever...

  • just discovered these guys. what album is this on. and what are their best albums

  • @hungus5000tron Their first five are the best. this is of their fith album Bandolier

  • He does look like Geddy (or should I say Geddy looks like him).

  • He does look like Geddy (or should I say Geddy looks like him). And he plays the bass as well as Geddy. But his style is a bit different. But I could see how people would think Geddy stole his style. People thought Rush was Led Zepplin when Rush's first single was released to the radio

  • I remember one of their other songs and kind of remember hearing this when I was younger. But what a great band. Someone on a RUSH video stated that Geddy sounds like Burke Shelley . Is that the singer and bass player? They look alike as well if it is

  • @MrChameleon2010

Yes Burke is the Singer, Songwriter,Bass Player and original founder of Budgie.

Burke Shelley (b. John Burke Shelley, 10 April 1950, Tiger Bay, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, Wales) What a guy, and what a band too.

  • reminds me of joe walsh but this earlier

  • brilliant. who borrowed the riffs at 2.06 and 2.25 from these guys?

both riffs sound familiar, but i can't recall?

the second maybe metallica? the first maybe some pop song?

  • Don't underestimate the bass work by Burke Shelley. Bourge and Shelley are a team and could trade individual solos. There are examples throughout their albums together.

The sound changed a lot when Tony moved on, but have a listen to Tredegar (formed by Tony Bourge) - they're much like what Budgie became. I think it was the pressure making type of sound many fans wanted to hear then - not the open blues sound that was the pure Budgie of the past. A shame, cos this is great.

  • There's no doubt in my mind Budgie played some of the most potent lead guitar-based hard rock/metal I ever heard. Besides Burke's high tenor vocals (which has more in common with Ian Lloyd of the Stories or Paul Rodgers or Paul McCartney), you have Tony Bourge's chunky guitar playing that defined the band as we know it. When Tony left, Budgie just wasn't the same, and he basically took the band's sound with him.....

  • So Funky, but heavy, perfect timing. Nice SG. F*** The Mags

  • Oh come off it Bob.........this is Rush in disguise!!!!

  • Budgie have been around since 1967, a fair few years before Rush.

  • @1970sman as he said they came first 1967. Rush tho was formed in 1968. SOrry this band is not a cover of Rush. If anything it's the other way around. But I will not say that cause I love both bands. Two very talented bands.

  • Bourge is the most under-rated guitarist EVAH!

    Few players are as creative.

  • Budgie's greatest hit ever.

  • Most underrated band ever...

  • GOOD STUFF!

  • Saw them on Guitar Heroes last night

    BRILL!

    bring back TOGWT

  • I hope all rock fans take a look at the drum kit -

    ONE bass drum

    ONE side tom

    ONE flooor tom

    all that's ever needed.

  • Totally agree with you Neil.

Thank you for the witty comment.

  • hey! Ross Rothero-Bourge here.

Tony's my uncle! interesting to see people talking about him, he inspired me to be a musician, Im a session drummer signed record deals and sessioned for Eastenders actors and stuff... not so rock'n'roll! ha!

Tony makes his own guitars at his home in Cardiff, I don't think it would be his cup of tea anymore to rejoin, although Id love to see it!

did any of you see him back in the day? love to hear from you!

    RossRB

  • @rossnato1 Hey Ross, I saw your uncle a good few times back in the day. Ask him if 'Hot As A Docker's Armpit' was more than a mere nod to 'Trapeze'? Also did he trade his beautiful sunburst Gibson 345 for the SG?

  • Tony Bourge looks like he could be Tony Iommis brother; nicer brother that is. They both have the same stage presence too: very focused on their Gibson SG's. Great music!

  • Maybe it is Iommi, he maybe once was pretty tired of playing so dark music... "well I want to be a also hippie guitarplayer" he said and then he met Geddy Lee and he wanted to play also hippie music and now he calls himself in budgie Burkey Shelley...

  • 18 days their playing in sydney.

    guess who got ticktes (whoooooooooooo)

  • Get the title right, Bob!

  • Always liked Budgie.

  • I listen to Impeckable everyday...I don't care if spell check comes up wrong...that's the way I remember it! I love it! I'm a faker too...Smile boy smile...Don't dilute the water....It can't ever be replaced

  • Tony Bourge Tony Iommi both killer I don't usualy like music like this. This has everything blues, rock even jazz.I am a Budgie lover now.I listen to every Budgie song out there, they KICK ASSS

  • it's so funny because the bassist looks like geezer butler and the guitar like Tony iommi It's like the "nicer" Black Sabbath ;)

  • i cant believe this many people even know who budgie !!! great

one of the best band i have heard.

  • Budgie was great. Love this song, what a groove!

  • Why has it taken me so long to find this band, aaaarrrghhhhh! Maybe i can appreciate the#m more now, cripes i'm almost 45, i was around when they were!!!!

  • I still got all the albums they were so underated what a great band !!!!!!!!!

  • wht id have found more awesome is if they had returned back to the music used in the beginning at 0:45 at the end of the song too.

  • Man this rocks so freakin hard

  • fantastic!

  • Wanna hear some real underrated cult

    trio from '69,try T2's -

It'll All Work Out In Boomland.

    Now there's some tastefull performance.

Bytheway....it always boggled me why someone

would call his metal band "Budgie"....

might it have been that Burke's been called that a lot,at the playground, and this was

his way to get back at 'm ?

  • tony is my uncle and if it helps you i do believe the name comes from when other kids used to call him bourgey for a nickname which turned into budgie

  • Is there any chance of him returning to Budgie? Is he still in contact with Burke? Do you listen to him bust out classics? That's freakin maddude, give him my and my dad's best

  • They deserved more success!

  • Priceless!

  • Bandolier is a corker of an album!

  • man i love this song, remember it in 1975 when i graduated, man this is great, in honor of this music man , i still wear my hair out, yeah, budgie cooks man, dexx, canadian rocker.

  • Manual guitar vibrato! WoW!

    Thanx again for Friends Invite!

    You're the Best!

  • dear sylvi2909,

I have bad server response on this computer, so the library unfortunately is best for replying to my comments etc.. sorry. Yeah bro! "Who Do You Want For Your Love" is on Bandolier! I recognized that joint right away! Steve ? replaced original drummer viewed on "Bread Fan" right? Is that the same Bob Harris from Zappa? Give WDYWFYL some time, It's destined for thousands of views and multiple 5 star ratings! To host videos, do you plug a VCR w/ USB into your computer;Movie maker?

  • Yes Steve Williams the drummer on this video replaced the original Budgie Drummer Ray Phillips, who is shown on the "Breadfan" video.

Bob Harris is the unique BBC Presenter. Harris has had a long career in broadcasting. He joined BBC Radio 1 in 1970 and presented BBC Two's The Old Grey Whistle Test throughout the '70s.

He also co-founded Time Out magazine and releases regular compilation albums.
