I find it unfair that live feeding videos get massive amounts of dislikes. Even as a gerbil owner, I don't mind gerbils being fed as snake food. As long as they aren't the ones I keep as pets, that's fine. Especially if they are bred just for the purpose of feeding, that is fine too. I do know that gerbils are their favorite food... as I've been told that's more of a natural victim of theirs. Though it is interesting to see that in snake eats gerbil videos, they tend to bite the snake more.

@demonic41700 40 bucks! Wow, inflation is a bitch! I would recommend buying frozen feeder mice and eventually rats (just ask at the pet store) and thaw them before feeding. My girlfriend wouldn't let me keep dead mice in the freezer so I fed live food. The feeder mice cost WAY less than gerbils. You're not supposed to actually buy gerbils for feeding, but they're also the ball python's favorite food ironically. Hope this helps. You could always google the subject.
@demonic41700 its incredible impractical to feed your snake gerbils, hamsters or guinea pigs. for a ball python mice will of varying sizes will do just fine for most of of its youth and then move on to small then eventually medium rats much cheaper than gerbils and you'll do just fine.
A good thing to do if you are worried about your snake getting bit is when you are about to feed the gerbil/rat, put it on the counter and with a pencil, [NOT a knife] press firmly and quickly behind the rodents head and break the neck. It is believed that snakes actually prefer live food, so if you break the neck it will still kick for a while which the snake will still be enticed to eat it. If you still have problems with your ball python not eating you can expose some of the brains. Goodluck

I don't wanna be one of those guys that comments on your methods (this isn't about the live feeding by the way) but you should really feed snakes in a clean environment free from loose substrate. My friends snake died this way and I'd hate anything like that to happen to yours. Lovely snake by the way :)
@getntoit we've tried feeding our non feeder with a gerbil, it works. In answer to your question... we managed to ween her back onto rats by rubbing a gerbil against the rat to fool her into thinking it was a gerbil. It can be done but we're no experts :P hope that helps. Oh oh oh, also we found that scenting the rat / mouse with tuna brine is also very effective. (we read about it but were sceptical)
ball pythons LIKE eating gerbils. it is supposed to be the closest relative to the kangaroo rats the eat in the wild. they are hard wired to eat them. my snake hasn't eaten in two months. today i got a nice fat gerbil for her at petco. if it works out ill post the video for all the people that dont now what they are talking about to hate on.
