I wish gymnastics was this enjoyable to watch again :( now it's all politics and robotic floor routines with crappy choreography I miss you 90s gymnastics!!!!
In the current code of points, what would they do with Dominique's first pass (with the double to double tuck)? I guess I can assume that they don't encourage it, since I never see anyone doing it.
@IsMaithLiomEmma What are you talking about? Dominique Dawes was coached by Kelli Hill. Bela had nothing to do with her training, other than when the Olympic team trained together right before the Olympics.
i don't see how she lost to shannon...they were talking shannon did 3 whip backs...but i just seen dawes do 2 and then she went back the other way...lol then they say "tough score to beat" nah...that's shannon...she won lol
It looks like her back is made of rubber and can bend in all different directions. Also, it looks like she can jump in the air and "get stuck in mid air"...lol. And she can grab on to the air like there were invisible handlebars and do a hand stand in the air. Also lay on top of the air like there was an invisible bed holding her up. Is this a trick camera or is this real???????? It's just amazing!!!!!!! like she is swimming in the air as if it were water

She is so full of energy and enthusiam! She has a smile on her face throughout the routine! Such a graceful athlete and I just love watching her perform!
I think it's funny how the crowd claps at the beginning with hardly any enthusiasm when they introduce her. And then once she does that first pass, they're like cheering so hard. haha.
really a pity. she made the team for the spring 92 world event championships in paris and fell on this set in the preliminaries. she just never could get a win on the world stage when it counted & she clearly deserved 2.
@htownhomie06 yeah, she's my favorite gymn, but was clearly a headcase...but in her case I think it took too long for her to realize that she was as good as she was
@dmann3g Plus, I was watching this true story about her on the fitness network and her coach said that when she would go to perform and they knew that she was black they would either give her lower scores or try to keep her from performing. And I think she had a lot of pressure to represent the African American race. That's a lot of pressure.
@suegirl145 She wasn't the first american to qualify, there was a black one back in the 70's named Lucy something. Also if Diane Durham hadnt gotten hurt at the last second she would have went to the 1984 Olympics. I know when Dawes started, Ive been following the sport forever. I dont care what Kellie Hill said, It was probably an exageration. This is the one sport where race has never mattered much even when the girls compete in Europe.
@dmann3g Really? A headcase.. A three time Olympian, a headcase. She had three major meets where her vault/floor got in her way but she's a headcase. I don't agree. She was a constant team player and I feel not given her due.
@Amocktus I couldn't agree w u more..but I say that because it was always in the biggest meets where she had her meltdowns. In a team comp or healthy US nats, she was on fire..but to cement her place in the record books she always let the pressure get to her. Im her biggest fan ever, trust, but I think it's clear that the mental pressure she put on herself got the best of her in the big meets.
@iamborghini1 hahaha. I completely get what you're sayin dude. She just flew through the air non stop. She was freakin AMAZING. her tumbling was awesome. I couldn't take my eyes off of her.
Well, gymnasts are training so hard that they keep their bodies from reaching puberty for a long time. That's why most of them aren't developed. And Dominique had the lowest body fat of anyoneone on the American team in the '96 Olympics. She was 19 and her body fat was at 4%. lol. That's not very healthy.
@TuesdayPillow Actually, I always loved the fact that she struck a good balance between dance and tumbling. And of course she was at the time relatively new to the senior level, therefore she seemed far more free to actually enjoy herself while competing.
to think that this would be the start of something great...she won 15 gold medals at the Nationals in her career including 4 on the floor exercise...WOW!
I know she was amazing...I bet in 1991 if people looked at Dawes, Miller, Strug and Zmeskal nobody would have guessed it would be Dawes who would go to the olympics three times.
I wish gymnastics was this enjoyable to watch again :( now it's all politics and robotic floor routines with crappy choreography I miss you 90s gymnastics!!!!
