  • I wish gymnastics was this enjoyable to watch again :( now it's all politics and robotic floor routines with crappy choreography I miss you 90s gymnastics!!!!

  • Take that gymnast of today...that was a really hard tumbling routine with dance and personality

  • she is the best tht first tumble pass was amazing

  • Amazing. Lol I'm actually speechless.

  • "just a little girl on a playground"

  • 14 in elite o am only level 6 and i an 12

  • In the current code of points, what would they do with Dominique's first pass (with the double to double tuck)? I guess I can assume that they don't encourage it, since I never see anyone doing it.

  • Onr of the greatest floor routines of all time

  • she was such a performer as well as a powerful gymnast - I always loved watching Dominique on floor.

  • so beautiful talented and a class act

  • what's the name of this music?

  • @MusicDory17 I forgot the name, but it's a Barry Mannilow song. Hope that helps.

  • @Mikizzle15 thank you! :)

  • One word: POWERHOUSE!

  • i love dominique sooo much she the best and is my inspiration!!

  • lol I would be pissed too be next or too be her competition

  • she was so tiny

  • OMG I've never seen a tumbling like the first one she did!! :O

  • People can criticize Bela Karolyi all they want, but he CLEARLY got it right with his gymnasts!

  • @IsMaithLiomEmma What are you talking about? Dominique Dawes was coached by Kelli Hill. Bela had nothing to do with her training, other than when the Olympic team trained together right before the Olympics.

  • @Mikizzle15 commented on the wrong dominique. i've been watching both dominique dawes and moceanu. honest mistake, keep your pants on.

  • Awesome Dawesome in true form!!

  • She moves so damn quick, you can't almost catch the performance, however. When you do, you're hypnotized.

Once of the greatest. At fourteen!

  • how in the world does a 14 year old come that fit?

how in the world does she have so much energyyyy

    ahhhh its making me tired

    why arent i like her...:'(

  • i don't see how she lost to shannon...they were talking shannon did 3 whip backs...but i just seen dawes do 2 and then she went back the other way...lol then they say "tough score to beat" nah...that's shannon...she won lol

  • JOHN TESH WAS EVERYWHERE BACK IN THE 90'S

  • She has a lot of fire in her! I love it!

  • She came to my school

  • wow..if THAT was 9 an some change i would hate to know how your suppose to get a 10. amazing

  • Energy and power personified!!!Amazing. I adore her

  • 14!!!!! OMG! Puberty does really stop for gymnasts!

    She's still so amazing!

  • shes amazing

  • She is so full of energy and enthusiam! She has a smile on her face throughout the routine! Such a graceful athlete and I just love watching her perform!

  • I think it's funny how the crowd claps at the beginning with hardly any enthusiasm when they introduce her. And then once she does that first pass, they're like cheering so hard. haha.

  • She's amazing!!!

  • Aww. she's so little and full of energy.

    That first stunt was crazy!

  • I love how polished this routine is, even small movements of her head and hands.

  • Amazing tumbling series at the beginning! This routine looks better than her 1996 olympic program:-)

  • "Just a little girl on a playground." 19 years later and Tim Daggett is still using that phrase. get a new line!

  • @mk144 It's his signature phrase. haha.

  • She is the BEST!!

  • really a pity. she made the team for the spring 92 world event championships in paris and fell on this set in the preliminaries. she just never could get a win on the world stage when it counted & she clearly deserved 2.

  • @htownhomie06 yeah, she's my favorite gymn, but was clearly a headcase...but in her case I think it took too long for her to realize that she was as good as she was

  • @dmann3g Plus, I was watching this true story about her on the fitness network and her coach said that when she would go to perform and they knew that she was black they would either give her lower scores or try to keep her from performing. And I think she had a lot of pressure to represent the African American race. That's a lot of pressure.

  • @Mikizzle15 stop lying, she never faced that. she was always extremely popular, there has never been much racism in gymnastics.

  • @suegirl145 She wasn't the first american to qualify, there was a black one back in the 70's named Lucy something. Also if Diane Durham hadnt gotten hurt at the last second she would have went to the 1984 Olympics. I know when Dawes started, Ive been following the sport forever. I dont care what Kellie Hill said, It was probably an exageration. This is the one sport where race has never mattered much even when the girls compete in Europe.

  • @dmann3g Really? A headcase.. A three time Olympian, a headcase. She had three major meets where her vault/floor got in her way but she's a headcase. I don't agree. She was a constant team player and I feel not given her due.

  • @Amocktus I couldn't agree w u more..but I say that because it was always in the biggest meets where she had her meltdowns. In a team comp or healthy US nats, she was on fire..but to cement her place in the record books she always let the pressure get to her. Im her biggest fan ever, trust, but I think it's clear that the mental pressure she put on herself got the best of her in the big meets.

  • She looks like a rubber band flying through the air. Phenomenal!

  • why doesn't she just keep flipping through the whole routine?

  • @iamborghini1 hahaha. I completely get what you're sayin dude. She just flew through the air non stop. She was freakin AMAZING. her tumbling was awesome. I couldn't take my eyes off of her.

  • WOW!! & ive seen some small gymnasts but she looks like shes 9 here!!

  • she got robbed so much...but she's always get into her own way a lot.. i loved her so much....

  • ..super.

  • she look eight or night year old. i was very surprise to see 14

  • She was awesome, I could never in my dreams attempt the firt tumble she did. She ROCKS THE WALLS!!!!!

  • lol a gazelle. she looks like she can run pretty fast. but she weighs only 75 pounds, at age 14. wow.

  • Well, gymnasts are training so hard that they keep their bodies from reaching puberty for a long time. That's why most of them aren't developed. And Dominique had the lowest body fat of anyoneone on the American team in the '96 Olympics. She was 19 and her body fat was at 4%. lol. That's not very healthy.

  • holy crap!! those first 2 tumbling passes!!

  • I'm saying she was getting it with those flips in the beginning. My eyes couldn't keep up.

  • Does anyone know what this music is called please? :)

  • Jump Shout Boogie Medley by Barry Manilow.

  • she wuz really good in da gymnastics world she is my idol........ =}

  • Yeah SHE IS SOOOO BEAST!! she is most definately my idol... she inspires meto keep doin gymnastics (elite)

  • I would have hated to have been the next person right after her. lol. This routine is AMAZING!!!

  • Kim zmeskal was next. Her routine was amazing too. She got the same score. :)

  • She does not look like she's 14. She looks like she's about 9 years old. lol.

  • she went to my gym :D

  • she look like a gazelle

  • aww I miss the days when they had a separate day for EF at Nationals..

  • One of my favourite gymnasts.

  • wow!! hopefull i kan make it dis farr!!

  • Maybe if they had her for FX in Indianapolis, they would've won team gold maybe?

  • I think Dawes would have helped the Americans on FX, but the Soviets performed so well on each event that no team could have beaten them.

  • @12bmills I was thinking the same thing.

  • Awesome Dawesome... LOL xoStephy :P

  • anyone know the name of her music selection?

  • Dominique Dawes (USA)

    1988 - Fabulous Feet

1992 - "Toot, Toot, Tootsie" by Joe Costanzo

    1993 - Malaguena

    1994 - Hungarian Rhapsody

    1995-1996 - Fantasy Quick

1998 - "Vamos a Bailar" by the Gypsy Kings

2000 - "Tormento del Feugo" from Brisas de Pamplonita

  • @marieked 1991 - "jump, shout, boogie" by barry manilow

  • I posted what she had used above... it may be the same as the 1988 FX. That's all I had for info.

  • Has always been one of my favorite floor routines from anyone. That beginning blows me away every time. Never gets old....

  • Girl Power!!!

  • My god that was AMAZING! I've never seen this routine before. I've always loved her straddle jumps. Dominique's forever an idol of mine.

  • amazingggg!!

  • I had to rewatch the start, was so awesome!

  • WOW SHES GOOD

  • this was one of my fav floors ever!

  • it's a travesty she was never a world on olympic champ on floor.

  • Is it just me or does she look like her body flies through the air?

  • She is the cutest thing ever, and such an amazing floor artist!!! I liked this routine even more than her '92 Olympic one!!

  • I'll bet at the time she was not considered a good dancer but this would be GREAT in terms of dance if done these days.

Thanks for posting! Love this routine.

  • @TuesdayPillow Actually, I always loved the fact that she struck a good balance between dance and tumbling. And of course she was at the time relatively new to the senior level, therefore she seemed far more free to actually enjoy herself while competing.

  • This is why she was called Awesome Dawesome! Absolutely amazing!

  • Great routine! BTW, I didn't know Tim came up with his famous "little kid on a playground" quote so long ago!

  • AWESOME!!!!!

  • she is awesome! and so young here!

  • Dazzling!

  • to think that this would be the start of something great...she won 15 gold medals at the Nationals in her career including 4 on the floor exercise...WOW!

  • I know she was amazing...I bet in 1991 if people looked at Dawes, Miller, Strug and Zmeskal nobody would have guessed it would be Dawes who would go to the olympics three times.

  • exactly....

  • Thanx for adding this...she was great.
