  • Had to go there and fix a C-5 with engine oil press flux back in '02. Pretty good trip except we got stuck there for 2 weeks. Chow Hall was awesome though

  • Stationed there in 88, worked on TASF for 6 briliant months. Great place and Great People.

  • @PhastPhlyer will be flying through there again in December, hope to grab a few more seconds of video this time.

  • waw ascension are there any zombies there ?

  • strange little island! only there for 4hours shit warm beer to warm climate!!!!!

  • All the Victors and Vulcans parked there in 82 must have been quite some sight

  • I can recommend the Black Buck raid book that came out early last year I think, really does paint the scene very well.

  • @ajlusted For a few weeks it was the busiest airfield in the world. Our American allies did us (Brits) proud. Concertina city and the bar that resembled the one in Star Wars, air conditioning powered by a jet engine, uppers, downers, the last roar of Palmerstonian colonialism - great.

  • Lived there from 1993-1995. Amazing place, would love to go back again some day!

  • NAsa HAs Telematry sights as well

  • I marshalled a few Hercs, VC 10's, Tristars and JumboJ ets from that very pan in 84 & 85. Great memories with Herc Eng det and TASF. Thanks for a great clip.

  • Been there myself for about ten days with the Hercs, was a great time with turtles on the beach the hot sun and ice cold beer!

    Noddy Holder (SAC)

  • spent 5 days r+r there.beautiful place, beaches were lovley ,trigger fish were a nibbling pain in the ass lol.hot day and night...loved it. feb 1996.

  • Thank you. :)

  • I was in the cage with you man. That overnight stop was a bust.

  • Why are we even in the Ascension Island?

  • Bit of a silly question really, you ought to do your research. The island hosts many communications and relay stations, exploiting the Island's strategic position in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Both the BBC and Cable and Wireless have communications posts there. The European Space Agency (ESA) also has a tracking station on the island that tracks the Ariane 5 Space rockets shortly after they take off from French Guiana. It also provides an air link between the UK and the Falklands.
