  • Thanks Russell, beautiful

  • His hot sexy and great voice! bravo!! bravo!Russell watson

  • Just perfect......

He performs it in The Phantom way

  • He's flipping between his own voice and ripping off Michael Crawford, not a good way to go about it really...

  • He could be so much better if he just got some good lessons.

  • Just a perfect voice....One of my favourite songs ever.Russell you have such passion and emotion in your voice....sheer brilliance ....what a great man.Love this video....thanks for sharing.

  • trie bien, I love this

  • trie bien

  • Excellent! Probably the best rendition of this song that I've heard. Love it!

  • ZOMG! He is so amazing! I love him! And he went up in my opinion for doing this song! They should have him play The Phantom sometime!

  • I do prefer Gerard Butler's version, as prefer his voice, he's also a lot nicer to look at too :)

But Russell does sound good too.

  • Oh my God, Russell Watson singing one of my ALL TIME favorite songs?! What a great way to start this day!

  • Correction: Watson has indeed sung opera. He is magnificent too. The Voice is absolutely a great singer.

  • sent shivers down my spine.....

  • Amazing. Great voice. :-) :-) :-)

  • I love it how he can sing opera, pop and rock and do it all with perfection. What a voice!

  • Definitely the guy has the inborn talent to sing opera but I don't think he really studied. He changes the color of his voice. But let me say that I enjoyed listening to his high natural notes. He has a gift. I know what real purists are saying that he is not a true opera singer. But in fairness to Russell, his talent is inborn. I enjoy his singing here.

  • indeed he puts soul in the music of the night!

  • A lovely performance; I just love it.

  • Somebody told me he used to be a club singer, singing popular music, then there was a power cut, so in the dark he started singing opera as a joke, and everybody thought it was amazing. Maybe it was fate.

  • @keancole Yeah, he is playing with it all over the place. Which is the real voice?? I never can tell with this guy - all a bit faux..

  • Russel Watson is the best!!!

  • I loved Michael Crawford for the emotion he brought to the performance and this is just as heartfelt. Makes me go all shivery :)

  • Wow...

  • wow!!!!

  • He first made me interested in classical music. Before him I thought it was just for posh snobs.

  • @SuzLa1

That's strange since my favourite classical composer was so poor when he died that he had a pauper's funeral. Music from the shows or from opera is a darn good start to a life of enjoyment of the wonderful music of the classical composers.

  • @ifuliki Yes but if you have been to a rubbish rough school like I did, that was run by hippies, all they do is to try to make the kids like ethnic music where all the immigrants come from and playing the bongos is about as far as they bother to teach. If somebody who looks more like a pop star sings classical music, it helps to make those not familiar with it take notice.

  • @SuzLa1

That wasa stupid mistake. My musical tastes are eclectis. I love a jolly good tune whether it be Schubert's Trout sung by the Wiebeesangerknaben or Music of the Night by Russell Watson. All I sk is that it be decently performed. Jussi Bjorling and Tom Joned are both favourtites of mine. And as for Toms Jones it is not because I am half Welsh

  • @SuzLa1 Good, but have you actually gone on to listen to any actual classical music (not just crossover) by actual opera singers? By that, I mean singers who sing in opera houses.

Look up Juan Diego Florez, and of course anything by Pavarotti, for a start.

  • @colino72 What do you mean by crossover music? Isn't the reason some music is more popular, because it's better? I don't listen to much foreign language music such as Italian because I can't understand it but I like Andrea Bocelli and I enjoyed Amore e musica when Russell Watson sang it. I don't see why music has to fit into a category as if somebody wants to sing it, they should. Freddie Mercury helped to make opera popular with younger listeners when he helped make Barcelona.

  • @SuzLa1 Of course I don't mean all of the most popular music is better as a lot from the USA is based on expensive advertising and hype for gullible teenagers to fall for, but I class whether music is good based on if it's still popular after a few years

  • @colino72 ey buddy. if i may just ask. . have you proven something yet in your ECLECTIC AND IMPECCABLE TALENT AND KNOW HOW OF THE CLASSICAL MUSIC. as that of the world recognition of watson? where have you performed and released your albums?

  • @iamric22 I have never claimed to have done so, and it is completely spurious and intellectually barren to claim that no-one can comment on something that they don't do themselves. As for performance, yes absolutely I have - as a keen amateur, and it is my main hobby. Does Watson have a good instrument? Yes. Is he an opera singer - no, because he has never sung in an opera. Good luck to him, though, and on the plus side, after listening to him I moved on to others, so I thank him for that.

  • We like this, his interpretation is theatrical, storeytelling, rich with feeling, and makes a difficult song much more full and imaginative. Cheers! :-)

  • hes so sexy and he has a great voice

  • i love the atmosphere he created

    the music itself is wonderful

    stop comparing please

  • good version!

  • the best version

  • Not my favorite performance of this song, by far . . .

  • Very schizophrenic singing, all over the place!

  • The first part sounds do much like Michael Crawford, then he does his classical tenor style. Perhaps this was in tribute to the original Phantom?

Not as good as Crawford, but better than Butler. I really like to hear this song (and many others by Lloyd Weber) sung by trained tenors or baritones.

  • he is a very versatile singer... i love his version of this beautiful song!!!

  • wow, when you try to just listen and not watch the video, you will hear two people singing...

  • Actually, both voices you heard is from Russell, coz he use different way to sing

  • yes I know, it's just amazing to hear Russell's voice having different personalities..

  • I love you Russell Watson

  • 我最崇拜的男人 我愛死他了 希望他早日康復 I LOVE Russell Watson

  • He has beautiful voice. He can sing operas, he will have a great careara

  • He's been singing pro and internationally since the 80's. He's already there. :)

  • I saw him sing this last week in Bristol. Absolutely fantastic and very dramatic performance.

  • very versatile singer! love his interpretation.

  • Russell has many singing styles. He is also an impressionist and can change his voice from one style to another. He does sound rather like MC except on the higher notes. I d love to see him in Phantom!

  • This is a beautiful song! Thank you ever so much for posting it!

  • sounds like micheal crawford.

haha the facial expressions he makes

  • i can't believe it if i didn't see the video i would think it was micheal crawford

  • oh my word! how true! It sounds almost EXACTLY like michael crawford in parts!

  • This is nice. I must say I prefer Donald Braswell's version of this song!

  • still think vocals of steven ritchie is far better

  • STEVEN RITCHIESs VERSIONS IS SO MUCH BETTER

LIKE MICHAEL CRAWFORD CHECK IT OUT EVERYONE

    RICHARD JOHN

  • has anyone seen steven ritchies version exactly like michael crawfords version check it out

he is quoted as next michael crawford

  • omg i lvoe this he gives me chills and he is so cute :P

  • Has Russell ever played the Phantom? What a talent.

  • he sounds like michael crawford...i don't know why he is that special...

  • I seriously though it was a michael crawford dub at first...

  • He imitates every phantom he hears and that's why he sounds as if it's 15 different singers.

  • I like his opera voice, but not his other voices.

  • I have to agree, this is a very old clip- thats why there are inconsistencies in his vocal tone. Im sure hed blow us away if he sang it now. His potential even back then was obvious.

  • Wonderful ! I heard Russell sing this when I saw him in Brighton in July and he capitivated me as he always does. Does anyone know when he is going to be on t.v. again. I watched every episode of "Last Choir Standing" and as I was hoping he did sing at the final. Do hope they get him to sign at the opening of the 2012 Olympics I was delighted to hear he had topped the Classical Singer Chart, so well deserved.

    Jazz Percussion

  • that is fantastic, most pop stars could only dream of singing like that

  • A very very nice job on this song. He shows great flexibility to cover the very large range of this song

  • The most soothing performance of this I heard till now.

  • Funny - he changes his voice funny funny. Completely split personality. haha. He´s voice is great end fine. But all the changes in voice is pretty "not good"

  • Fantastic performance by a phenomenal talent

  • I am absolutely devasted. This is an astounding version. The switches in range, to me, highlight the myriad emotions and behaviours: yearning, seduction, threat, supplication, loneliness and desperation etc. in this song. Wow. I am in tears. ( which makes typing hard)

  • i agree as i'm getting shocked from my keyboard... beautiful...

  • I think what you mean to say is that he keeps switching to falsetto...and yes it is a bit awkward.

  • Yes, I see where it sounds uneven, but everyone has to remember that, comparitively, he is a very new talent and new singer- cut him some slack. The song is otherwise very very powerful, in the captivating way it should be sung. The manner in which he sings it also makes this song, a very slow song, more captivating.

  • what a voice! I have seen phantom in the west end and this is way better than the last 3 "phantoms" which have performed this on the stage the current phantom is awful go and see him for a laugh he is only about 5ft tall

  • he signing it the way it supposed to be sung!

  • Our orchestra is performing all of the phantomm of the opera music, I wish he could perform it with us!

  • Very, very uneven. That's so annoying..It's like he is singing a duet with himself - "oh, I'll use the hoarse, mysterious tenor voice. No, the deep one...no, wait..."

I'll take Michael Crawford any day.

  • so true that was annoying why couldn't he just make up his mind already?

  • OMG! This is how this song is supposed to be sung. To take possession of you.

  • if anyone is interested there is another performance of motn by russell here in classicalfanman's labeled YTL (Part 7. Go check it out, it's great

  • omg I love this song!!!

  • Russell Watson....What an incredible voice

  • Very uneven...this is a romantic song and it just falls flat

  • just awesome from the great

    Russell Watson

  • I like this song

  • the switching between vocal styles is a little weird...i wish he would just choose one and stick with it. otherwise its awesome

  • Russell Watson is my favorite singer to date. I love his songs and his voice. Yet this is, in my opinion, a less than beautiful rendering of this song. The way he switches vocal styles is not pleasing (Va Pensiero is excellent in this regard). I do much prefer Michael Crawford's "Music of the Night."

  • I'm sorry to say but,... better than Michael Crawford. Russell was born to sing this song. My favorite rendition of Music of the Night so far.

  • i love him

  • OMG - I LOVE HIM! Such an amazing voice and possibly my favourite version of Music of the Night so far! Thanks so much for posting :)

  • brilliant

  • P E R F E C T I O N !!!! Thanks for this listing. Thank Bravo, Thank Russell and Thank GOD for giving Russell such talent.

    Awesome !

  • when did he do this?

  • Simply stunning! Sends chills thru you...

  • Can this man sing or what? Fantastic and he looks pretty hot too.

  • absolutely amazing!...god bless you Russell, may god speed.

  • he is so gr8 i love his voice thanks

  • absolutely brilliant - great voice - luv him

  • i got to say he sings this so sexily yummy xx
