Thx for the posting!!! I never knew who sung this song...I just remember hearing it around the early 80's...and I am reminded of the verses concerning dividing the land in the OT and the Levites portion....yes, this pilgrim journey....
I cannot explain to you how much it means to have this music available to me. I grew up listening to this music. My Mom traveled with the choir in the 80s. I was there when they first sang this song. I was there when they recorded it. I was at the rehearsals. This is my life.
Thank you so much for posting this video. It brought back so many memories. I remember hearing it at the GMWA. I had the Philadelphia Mass Choir's album and lost it in Katrina. Hearing songs such as this confirms my faith and belief in God.
soo much soul, its overwhelming. the closest i've gotten to the 05 women's all state choir, that girl from there was soooo amazing!, and she was only 16 made me cry every time. this girl is still amazing, but if the all state had this choir to back her up, I would be just in heaven, GReAT! i love this! this choir gives me chills
The original composer is Wanda Taylor Riddick. Wanda Taylor Riddick on piano, Harold Thompson on organ, "Puff" directed the choir and Debra Ford was the 'original' lead singer.
For a minute I thought this was a video/8mm film of Philly Mass from back in the day. I remember Eld. Wilson. "Freeman" as I knew him, during my childhood years. The Thursday night rehearsals; James Ford, Freeman, Puff, Bea, David on organ, Edwin Newberry, Wanda Riddick, Carol Antrum. I sure do miss those days - the programs, recordings and GMWA!
This song has a special place in my heart. When I was a child the Young Adult/Youth Choir in my home church sang this song. This coming sunday my Choir will sing this song during the Altar Call when the saints gather around the Altar Rail for prayer. This sunday is the Baptism of our Lord Sunday according to the Liturgical Calendar, thus, this song is fitting because truly the Holy Spirit is our everlasting portion Who walks with us on our Christian Journey.
If anyone know where i can find the commonwealth of pa mass choir live at the 80th holy convacation cd please let me know. by the way they soung great.
My daughter sang this song in her 2-6th grade choir. it was amazing!they hit the high notes and everything. it was really a heart warmer. she was in the 5th grade when she did it.
my God we have shouted many sundays off this song back in the day! i still have that album lol! so glad to see these songs on youtube, thanks for posting it!!
My God, this is a blessing! I thought I'd never hear this song again. I had the LP " Close to thee" by the awesome Philadlphia Mass choir. I loaned to a friend and never got it back. " BUT GOD ". Is this the same sister who sung lead on the album? Yep "Album". What is her name? She has blessed me more than she will ever realize! THANK YOU JESUS!
no she is not the original singer on the album her name is Lil Bennett she is an aolto with the current philly chapter of the gmwa which is growing strong again under the leadership of Pastor Robert Preston Pastor of Universal Missionary Baptist Church 4401 N. Germantown Ave. Philly PA
God bless Rev Freeman Wilson, I joined the youth in 1980. Freeman Wilson, James Ford and Edwin Newberry were great inspirations to me...the best time of my life..
Yes, Freeman was able to be with us at the Recording. He was ill but wouldnt have it any other way but to be there. We miss him something awful. Savettes and Victory will be an Harol O. Davis Memorial this sunday with our CD review. If you can, Come Praise the lord with us.

This is a Gospel music treasure. Can you hear the richness in the message and in the tone of the choir. This is Gospel music at its best.
