Civi's want the HMWWV to be street legal so collecters could drice them to work or after off roading with a military surplus HMWWV that they won from a DoD auction they wanted for it to be legal to drive home and not have to put it on a trailer so AM made the h1 the closest street legal copy.
I have only compared the off road ability, and that what I saw nothing could compare with Russian Vityaz. I have not compare comfort, fuel consumption, reliability. Of course vityaz is quite different vehicle that Hummer and all other vehicles with wheels. But I think that USA do not have such caterpillar vehicle like vityaz (probably because they don't need such vehicles). I do not pray russian engineering because mostly it is totally crap.
@kantrzyn if you stick the new duramax and allison into an h1, you get around 600hp and 600lb of torque at a lowered fuel consumption, and that really is a good combo
@kantrzyn We do have caterpillar tracked vehicles like the Vityaz we have multiple models and different brands, I don't know what you qualify as need for such uses but comparing a tracked all terrain utility vehicle to the HMWWV is not a fair comparison because the 4*4 wheeled to the tracks.

@ringenberg2 Go with an FJ, their more reliable than Land Rover and not as expensive either. After being in HMMWV's in Afghanistan I would never think about buying one. Okay rigs but extremely wide and heavy. The Afghan Army uses 4 door Rangers which are beasts and the spec op guys use Toyota Tacoma's and the Hilux....My vote for the FJ, I bought one in 09 when I came back from Iraq. Great expedition vehicles with more purpose than just mud. Get a base model and mod it to what you want.

Argue all you want about the merits and capabilities of the Hummer in general, but the H1 is still the best Hummer ever built. The H2 and H3 are just a disgrace of the original and also the military Humvee.

Sweet video, I have read you and the other guys threads and you both make valuable points. I'm in the market myself for a civi style . I got a couple of buddies that go rock climbing but I would just like to over do it and drive home! They are in jeeps and have to have them towed there and away. I've been looking at them for years, military ones mostly but now I got a son so thats the only reason I'm gonna go for the more cushiony style.
There's no negative thing I can say about a Humvee, or better known as HMVV. They saved my life quite a few times over in Afghanistan. Motor was shot all to he11, and tires were blown out. But it turned over and got us out safely. There's truely no vehicle on the market that I believe can stand up to the punishment like the H1. It's what I like to call God with 4 wheel drive.

@dereileak Yeah, I was the gun truck operator for a convoy of 4 trucks when we were ambushed. When we got to our FOB there were no less than 6 shots that went directly through the hood. And only 1 tire didn't have rounds in it, or holes. People who bash the Humvee to me are the same idiots who wanted to civilize it. Point of, it was built for combat and that's it. Not to get groceries for your wife.

@dereileak A demobbed vehicle in the military is a vehicle that was demobilized for combat use. Meaning it's no longer combat ready. Which doesn't mean it's a bad vehicle. Typically vehicles that go to auction have no more than 50K miles on them, and considering that the standards for vehicle maintenance are higher than anywhere else...they run great. It's just easier to buy a new vehicle instead of having to keep fixing the same one sometimes.
@dereileak Well if you know of any military bases near you that have people with the job of transportation, you can usually ask them. I am stationed at Wright Patterson Airforce Base, an our auctions are held I believe twice a year and they're on base.

Argue all you want about the merits and capabilities of the Hummer in general, but the H1 is still the best Hummer ever built. The H2 and H3 are just a disgrace of the original and also the military Humvee.

Sweet video, I have read you and the other guys threads and you both make valuable points. I'm in the market myself for a civi style . I got a couple of buddies that go rock climbing but I would just like to over do it and drive home! They are in jeeps and have to have them towed there and away. I've been looking at them for years, military ones mostly but now I got a son so thats the only reason I'm gonna go for the more cushiony style.

There's no negative thing I can say about a Humvee, or better known as HMVV. They saved my life quite a few times over in Afghanistan. Motor was shot all to he11, and tires were blown out. But it turned over and got us out safely. There's truely no vehicle on the market that I believe can stand up to the punishment like the H1. It's what I like to call God with 4 wheel drive.

@dereileak Yeah, I was the gun truck operator for a convoy of 4 trucks when we were ambushed. When we got to our FOB there were no less than 6 shots that went directly through the hood. And only 1 tire didn't have rounds in it, or holes. People who bash the Humvee to me are the same idiots who wanted to civilize it. Point of, it was built for combat and that's it. Not to get groceries for your wife.

@dereileak Yeah, no joke. Whenever I see a truck like that, I want to pull the pin on a grenade, shove it in the tailpipe and walk away. But yeah, same, if you want a great offroad, go anywhere vehicle, get a Humvee, or even a M35A2 Duece. I'm actually really considering going to an auction some day on base and purchasing a demobbed Humvee. They go anywhere from 5k to 15k. But since I'm still considered active I can prob get it for cheap.

@dereileak A demobbed vehicle in the military is a vehicle that was demobilized for combat use. Meaning it's no longer combat ready. Which doesn't mean it's a bad vehicle. Typically vehicles that go to auction have no more than 50K miles on them, and considering that the standards for vehicle maintenance are higher than anywhere else...they run great. It's just easier to buy a new vehicle instead of having to keep fixing the same one sometimes.

@dereileak Well if you know of any military bases near you that have people with the job of transportation, you can usually ask them. I am stationed at Wright Patterson Airforce Base, an our auctions are held I believe twice a year and they're on base.
