MONROE, La. A teen convicted in the "Jena Six" beating case shot himself in the chest and was taken to the hospital Monday, days after his arrest on a shoplifting charge, police said.
Had the races been reversed they would have been shouting for life sentences. I do agree that the original sentences were way out of line, but simply releasing them was not the answer.

there was no "original sentecne". That is one of the myths of this case. They were CHARGED with aggravated assault, then after investigation and talking to witnesses, it was raised to Attempted Murder, then lowered again after further investigation.
NONE of them went to trial facing attempted murder. Only 2 were legally juveniles, and 1 of those (Bell) was on probation for severely beating a teen girl (broke that probation 3 times) & was less than 2 weeks away from being a legal "adult" when he attacked Justin Barker. The other was charged as juvenile (he has a record as well).
Bell was the only one in jail at the time of the marches (he had been convicted of aggravated assult). Before trial, he was offered 1 yr with 2 suspended.

He continued to attend Jena High but was on house arrest because he had a prior record. Now he is attending a high dollar boarding school in Connecticut (the one the Hiltons went to).
Marcus Jones ("father" of Mychal Bell) was charged with attacking on of Bell's lawyers (a female) a couple of weeks ago.
Beard is reportedly using money from the Jena 6 defense fund according to the Alexandria Town Talk newspaper.
Bell's mother and "father" and some of the other parents and family members were reported as driving brand new vehicles and wearing new wardrobes when the money came in, but all the reports I have heard come from individuals who claim to have seen the vehicles. I can't verify it. The Jena 6 families refuse to disclose where the money is or how it's being used.
Update: Melissa Bell (Mychal's Mom) was arrested for attacking two women with a shovel. They said their kids were at her house when a drug deal went down, but when they confronted her, she attacked them. She has a very lengthy record as it is. She's facing two counts of aggravated second degree battery.

there was no "original sentecne". That is one of the myths of this case. They were CHARGED with aggravated assault, then after investigation and talking to witnesses, it was raised to Attempted Murder, then lowered again after further investigation.

NONE of them went to trial facing attempted murder. Only 2 were legally juveniles, and 1 of those (Bell) was on probation for severely beating a teen girl (broke that probation 3 times) & was less than 2 weeks away from being a legal "adult" when he attacked Justin Barker. The other was charged as juvenile (he has a record as well).
Bell was the only one in jail at the time of the marches (he had been convicted of aggravated assult). Before trial, he was offered 1 yr with 2 suspended.

Beard is reportedly using money from the Jena 6 defense fund according to the Alexandria Town Talk newspaper.
Bell's mother and "father" and some of the other parents and family members were reported as driving brand new vehicles and wearing new wardrobes when the money came in, but all the reports I have heard come from individuals who claim to have seen the vehicles. I can't verify it. The Jena 6 families refuse to disclose where the money is or how it's being used.

There were an estimated 10-20 million Blacks transported via the trans-Atlantic slave trade. ABout 1/8 died along the way. Slaves did pass away, but were considerred property so while they were horribly treated, murder was generally avoided. What modern system are you referring to?

the u.s. justice and education system commit crimes daily against african americans....youre not yellin about that.many cases blacks are given basically stiffer penalties compared to whites.not to mention a lot are victims of racist cops and judges and juries,d.a.,etc.the school system wont even acknowledge the need to really encourage black kids to learn about their culture.we learn about white culture 24-7.

They do, huh? Well let's establish this factually by calling for serious investigations. Let's disbar racist prosecutors one at a time. Call for an investigation into Reed Walters' past prosecutions. If a disparity exists, disbar him! If it doesn't, then there is little to complain about (at least in LaSalle Parish). Black Americans, like all Americans, have to go through th proper channels to prove issues exist. You can't go off feelings and hunches.

The school system should be teaching Black children(and all others)reading, writing, math, general history and other subjects to help them understand the modern world. Black culture? Only if it is relevent. Sorry, but our modern culture, science and law and gov. come from Greece, Rome and Britain primarily, not sub-Saharan Africa.
