Four bangers are where its at. Expecially with the eclipse. You can get 200 hp out of one EASY by deleting the 3 cats and SRI... Put CF on a 4 banger... You're looking at 200hp+

@IROCwarriorAMC88 I've got a 2001 Camaro Z28, and it's my daily driver. And I damn sure care about gas mileage. I can get 29MPG on the highway with regular gas, only get 25MPG on the highway with the gas that has 10% ethanol.
When gas is $4 a gallon and it's the only car I have, I'm saving pennies. Still will never sell it though.
@Quatermain98526: If I could drive highway all the time in my L98, I could get 23-25mpg. I've done it before on long trips which is really good for a SBC but yeah, the LS's get decent gas mileage for a V8 with those aluminum blocks and heads, etc.

It's a popular swap into trucks and other cars for people who are on a budget and couldn't afford the pains of a LT1 or LS swap. The L98 TPI is what I call the fastest motor of the Camaro's/Firebird's in the late 80's/early 90's where TPI revolutionized fuel injected performance. But most people just trash talk it with no REAL knowledge.
@IROCwarriorAMC88 Was the L98 a match for the Mustang 5.0's of the day? Everyone talks about how the 5.0 Foxbody Mustangs trumped the Camaro's, but I think the Camaro's 350 had more HP. Not to mention the Trans Am and Camaro from the 1980's are downright bad ass looking cars, and the Foxbody is the most hideous excuse for a muscle car I've ever seen, I respect their power and sound though.
Favorite muscle car is still the 2002 Pontiac Trans Am.

For an unbiased view though, the Foxbody did trump the IROC a few times depending on which magazine you listened to but the IROC did have more horsepower and torque. It was also alittle bit heavier than the 3,000lb. Foxbody. But some mags show that the 350 TPI came out on top and others like Motor Trend show the Fox winning. It however was never by much!

Okay im gunna start some controversy, that was a new gen eclipse, shitty v6 front wheel drive, lets see that again, against a gsx 2nd gen or an eagle talon, different story, talon or gsx would have killed that camaro, took the hole shot and never looked back.
@scotuscc a 00 SS will beat a 4g gt yes, however. whats your mpg? did your car come with a 100k mi warranty (granted Mitsu practically never honors it) that you won't need? howbout a standard 650watt Rockford Fosgate? the eclipse isn't GREAT at anything, but its def not bad at most. I like mine, and I can leave stock/bolt on 5.0s quite often at the track. I have time slips if you must see... So yeah its not amazingly fast, but for what it is, its NOT rice and def not bad.

Aside from that trip down Minge Lane LOL, I always put my money on an LS car if there's one in the fight, LS1s are beasts, they're quick stock, have a rediculous aftermarket, and you cannot break them. Ive yet to see an LS1 with a cracked block or blown piston, they're crazy solid

@olverafam This type of eclipse is more for spirit sport driving and luxury of a sports coupe more than "tuned up" I mean, if you want put 500HP on it by all means its possible with Ripp Mods. BUT, its expensive... Evos are always tuned up and older generation eclipses. Thats about it
The camero has 60 horsepower on eclipse of course it will win eventually. And to one who said Mistubishi is all ricer, I wanna see you race a camero against an evo.
@1Nightmare1UHQ my camaro with just headers and a catback is making 320rwhp 335rwtq runs high 12's I never raced any other eclipse besides hooked up gsx's but it took them quite a bit of work to keep up
@DcEvoIX Well eclipses aren't know for racing camoros. I think a good match up Japanese car would be: 3000gt, 350z, lancer evo, wrx sti, mazdaspeed 6. Unless you put a 400hp RIpp super charger, eclipses are not really in the league with high performance cars like comaros v8s as far as I know.
@1Nightmare1UHQ I've seen the old gsx's do some damage the evo and supra are my favorite cars, 350z will need a little work but yet the 370z and g37s keep up for a bit from a roll with mods like I have unless my car was stick then I'd have a better advantage, the 3000gt vr4 is quick but idk how quick rare car mazdaspeed 3 or 6 are pretty quick esspecially with a turbo upgrade they all have potential it's just v8's make big power off of simple mods but same with evo and they are hard to spot

i had a 3.4 camaro with about 200 horse and had no trouble beating a stock 3.8 eclipse im sorry to burst your bubble but these eclipse dont have anything on a slightly tuned camaro even when it has less horse, and i got alot of positive compliments from v6 and v8 owners just because i made a v6 run with a v8 do your research a 3.4 can be highly tuned against a highly tuned eclipse or v8 camaro and still hold their own

@IROCwarriorAMC88 I've got a 2001 Camaro Z28, and it's my daily driver. And I damn sure care about gas mileage. I can get 29MPG on the highway with regular gas, only get 25MPG on the highway with the gas that has 10% ethanol.
When gas is $4 a gallon and it's the only car I have, I'm saving pennies. Still will never sell it though.

It's a popular swap into trucks and other cars for people who are on a budget and couldn't afford the pains of a LT1 or LS swap. The L98 TPI is what I call the fastest motor of the Camaro's/Firebird's in the late 80's/early 90's where TPI revolutionized fuel injected performance. But most people just trash talk it with no REAL knowledge.

@IROCwarriorAMC88 Was the L98 a match for the Mustang 5.0's of the day? Everyone talks about how the 5.0 Foxbody Mustangs trumped the Camaro's, but I think the Camaro's 350 had more HP. Not to mention the Trans Am and Camaro from the 1980's are downright bad ass looking cars, and the Foxbody is the most hideous excuse for a muscle car I've ever seen, I respect their power and sound though.
Favorite muscle car is still the 2002 Pontiac Trans Am.

For an unbiased view though, the Foxbody did trump the IROC a few times depending on which magazine you listened to but the IROC did have more horsepower and torque. It was also alittle bit heavier than the 3,000lb. Foxbody. But some mags show that the 350 TPI came out on top and others like Motor Trend show the Fox winning. It however was never by much!

@scotuscc a 00 SS will beat a 4g gt yes, however. whats your mpg? did your car come with a 100k mi warranty (granted Mitsu practically never honors it) that you won't need? howbout a standard 650watt Rockford Fosgate? the eclipse isn't GREAT at anything, but its def not bad at most. I like mine, and I can leave stock/bolt on 5.0s quite often at the track. I have time slips if you must see... So yeah its not amazingly fast, but for what it is, its NOT rice and def not bad.

Aside from that trip down Minge Lane LOL, I always put my money on an LS car if there's one in the fight, LS1s are beasts, they're quick stock, have a rediculous aftermarket, and you cannot break them. Ive yet to see an LS1 with a cracked block or blown piston, they're crazy solid

@DcEvoIX Well eclipses aren't know for racing camoros. I think a good match up Japanese car would be: 3000gt, 350z, lancer evo, wrx sti, mazdaspeed 6. Unless you put a 400hp RIpp super charger, eclipses are not really in the league with high performance cars like comaros v8s as far as I know.

@1Nightmare1UHQ I've seen the old gsx's do some damage the evo and supra are my favorite cars, 350z will need a little work but yet the 370z and g37s keep up for a bit from a roll with mods like I have unless my car was stick then I'd have a better advantage, the 3000gt vr4 is quick but idk how quick rare car mazdaspeed 3 or 6 are pretty quick esspecially with a turbo upgrade they all have potential it's just v8's make big power off of simple mods but same with evo and they are hard to spot

Rice is dirt slow cars that are made to look fast. Think of a Honda Civic with a huge exhaust and spoiler. Shit can't get to 60 in less time than this Eclipse can run the 1/4.

i had a 3.4 camaro with about 200 horse and had no trouble beating a stock 3.8 eclipse im sorry to burst your bubble but these eclipse dont have anything on a slightly tuned camaro even when it has less horse, and i got alot of positive compliments from v6 and v8 owners just because i made a v6 run with a v8 do your research a 3.4 can be highly tuned against a highly tuned eclipse or v8 camaro and still hold their own
