Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Hydroponics is really amazing because it allows growers to grow the most ideal crops with less time and effort but with definitely bigger and better yields unlike with soil-grown crops. Just like in the video where lettuce can be grown successfully in hydroponics, allowing the production of not only the best-looking plants, but also with a higher production rate even by just using a fraction of the space commonly used for soil gardening.
@SotaBoyOG lettuce seeds come from lettuce :) let it grow even furthur than is shown in the video and it will "bolt", a large stalk will appear in the middle of the lettuce and at the end of it will be flowers and if pollinated seeds, ever tasted a bitter lettuce? they turn bitter when they start to bolt.
Commerical bananas you buy in the shops are seedless, wild bannanas have seeds and bananas are propagated by cuttings of the rhizomes (suckers)

The lettuce you get in the store has been harvested early. Mature plants will bolt and flower, grow stems and produce seeds. Not a dumb question at all, it's good that you want to learn.
This method of growing crops is superior - if all farms in the United States were replaced with hydroponic farms on equal amounts of land, we could not only feed all of our people (homeless included) but we could feed all of Mexico too.

I have known about hydroponics for a long time and it's an efficient technique, however the question that needs to be asked is: how does it affect the taste?
Nowadays I no longer like to eat lettuce because in my experience it has become completely tasteless.
How do you know it used more energy and is more labor intensive? All the transplanting has to be done with regular lettuce too. As far as more energy all they have to do is run a circulating pump. No tractors to plow up fields or spray pesticides. It also takes up 1/5th the land and uses less water than conventional farming. Also don't forget about higher yields.
This is extremely efficient since you dont need space to reach all plants unlike pvc tubing.

-Water pool is only 4 inch deep (excat amount per cut - 8 cuts in lettuce)
-All nutrinents one time mix per cut from 3-tank system operated by comuter
-No styrofoam boards -no floating rafts
-One worker per shift operate the entire greenhouse
-Harvesting by robatics - moving PVC gutter (think of auto assembly factory)
Note: There are tenfold more staff (armed guard) than greenhouse workers

Thanks for sharing this wonderful video. Hydroponics is really amazing because it allows growers to grow the most ideal crops with less time and effort but with definitely bigger and better yields unlike with soil-grown crops. Just like in the video where lettuce can be grown successfully in hydroponics, allowing the production of not only the best-looking plants, but also with a higher production rate even by just using a fraction of the space commonly used for soil gardening.

@SotaBoyOG lettuce seeds come from lettuce :) let it grow even furthur than is shown in the video and it will "bolt", a large stalk will appear in the middle of the lettuce and at the end of it will be flowers and if pollinated seeds, ever tasted a bitter lettuce? they turn bitter when they start to bolt.
Commerical bananas you buy in the shops are seedless, wild bannanas have seeds and bananas are propagated by cuttings of the rhizomes (suckers)

Great video! How wonderful it is to find a video that shows how clean hydroponics lettuces are planted. It is no wonder that hydroponics crops are really fresh and more nutritious compared with traditionally grown plants. What's even more amazing is that hydroponics fields can certainly produce more quality yields!

it's cool, but I doubt hydroponic plants get all the 'magic' wild plants get when grown in real soil.
There's so many types of nutrients, minerals and all sorts of other things that aren't included in the water at these farms.
Fertilizer just doesn't cut it for me.

Any left over nutrient will be discarded from hydroponic systems and poored down drains. It's our entire way of life that is wrong and capitalism prevents acts of nature happening as they should do. It has preventing people from freely living off the land and forced us into houses & buildings without choice and that is the reason we need all this farming

no one says one cannot grow their own food on their own land. heck, one could even set up their own hydroponic greenhouse. whats holding us back then? the same laziness that has us rely on businesses to grow the food for us is whats keeping us from learnin how to do it ourselves. growin food on land requires nearly as much "capital" (knowledge, materials, experience) as it does to grow it hydroponically. gov interference or not, we dont grow our own food even tho we are free to.

And why would nutrients be dumped. What a waste. Recycle them. Of course you haven't seen that. It's called new tech if it hasn't or isn't being used at the time. I am not concerned much about us dieing. thousands of species go extinct every day! Why should we be an exception. Sooner or later that will happen anyway. If we don't destroy ourselves, nature will one day.

Why does any of nature's animals try and survive? Because nature made us that way. Death is inevitable, but that doesn't make life meaningless. In fact, life is more meaningful, knowing you won't last forever. Besides which, we are the only sentient creatures that we are aware of, so to let nature snuff out the only sentient life we know of is sort of defeating the purpose of us being sentient, don't you think?

I have known about hydroponics for a long time and it's an efficient technique, however the question that needs to be asked is: how does it affect the taste?
Nowadays I no longer like to eat lettuce because in my experience it has become completely tasteless.

I grew tomatoes in soil and hydro .. differences i found was that the soil based plant had smaller buds but was more tastey

How do you know it used more energy and is more labor intensive? All the transplanting has to be done with regular lettuce too. As far as more energy all they have to do is run a circulating pump. No tractors to plow up fields or spray pesticides. It also takes up 1/5th the land and uses less water than conventional farming. Also don't forget about higher yields.
