*plane wing hits ground*... i think that when it takes the trip to the shop to get fixed the landing gear is not the only thing that needs to be replaced hope no one was leaning against the window it would be a serious headache to get a concussion right then
I was on this flight... I never knew there was footage of it.... it was unreal..... apparently that pilot was on vacation and was called in to take this flight... thank God it was him... he was experienced enough to handle it.. and we were in the air almost 2 1/2 hours burning fuel..... and no one really spoke, some just prayed, some were crying.... it was really tough.... thank God for the outcome
That was not the best job. I saw a 727 with a stuck landing gear. He did not arm the speed brakes, and after touch down he applied more and more aileron to keep the wing up. That frikin wing dropped finally at around 60 kts when he ran out of aileron. Amazing job.
Has anyone noticed the tendency for American second-level airlines in the past to name their companies after mountain ranges? "Allegheny", "Ozark" and "Piedmont" come to mind. It's like they were tempting fate, or something.
@Bhorzo No. It's a crash if it's classed as an accident - that is, if the aircraft is damaged or lost, or if the handling characteristics of the aircraft are damaged, OR if anybody is killed or injured by any piece of the aircraft or onboard the aircraft.
Whenever i see footage like this I can't help but to think that this is all caused by the flaps. once the plane is right above the runway, shouldn't they be put up? Kept during the procedure, but off while 10 ft from the ground.
@WorthWatchingVv How/why would this be caused by the flaps?!? It was a failed main gear. you want the flaps down on landing because it allows the plane to land at a slower speed, thus less dangerous to those on-board. Also, flaps move slowly, you cannot retract them on command 10 ft up. They would take more than 30 sec. to retract.
@HighFlyingA380 haha nah don't worry. I'm an aspiring pilot, and im guessing you're a pilot? So yeah, ill accept my corrections, especially from you :p
@patriots60 Why must he/she be a military pilot? Us civilian pilots are trained for the exact same emergency situations in the exact same way. This post is a prime example why people who are not educated in what they are commenting on should just keep their mouths shut.
@HighFlyingA380 Dude, chill out keyboard commando! LoL. The big difference between us military and GA/Civillian is military pilots train far more often. GA and even commercial.... flying is your job, its what you do, be it leisure or transport. Militarys primary flight duty is to TRAIN and be prepared for the event, whatever that may be. When you are out flying, do you keep your checklist open to the EPs?
@HighFlyingA380 Probably not... you probably keep the last page open, probably the after takeoff and climb checks, assuming you even use a checklist. Seriously dude, go chill, stop wasting your life correcting people on youtube and go defeat gravity, you obviously have a passion for aviation, so go feed it.
@NameWasInvalid No, I do not keep the EPs open, but we are trained to know the steps by heart, and then go back to the checklist as time allows to make sure you didn't miss anything. I fly every few days, so that is not an issue. Besides, you are implying that it is simply the amount of training you get, not quality. I have flown with a buddy who only flies every 3 months to stay current, and he is one of the best pilots I know. Frequency of training mean little compared to quality.
I've seen film of this taken inside the aircraft. Both wheels failed to drop, so the pilot roller coasted it through the air several times until one came out. The first touch down is his attempt to shake the second wheel lose. Some idiot ground crew member forgot to remove the chocks before take off. Brilliant, brilliant flying.

@slaneyboi I am a pilot, asshole. Gear ups happen more than you obviously think. Look beyond the world of commercial aviation. Look at NTSB incident reports for GA. ah bless, iv looked at loads of plane crash vids and u can tell that 99.9% of the ppl involved get FUBAR, so its good to see that every1 survived this 1!!!!
@ODOMAN123 Then the title should be "Crash Landing, Everyone Survives"....that way it's not misleading, and I know to skip it. When I see the words "plane crash", I expect explosions and death. You know what im talking about. You just have uncontrollable urges to be an asshole. Try this...get in a plane and make a plane crash video that feeds my hunger for destruction. That should fix your problem.
@willy1508 Lol, im not going to argue with you fucking idiots. In my opinion, this is not a plane crash. And you're not going to convince me that it is. Just like the description of the video says, " the aircraft slides to a stop". There's a difference between a sliding stop, and an actual plane crash.
I remember this well, we used to throw the chocks up in the wheel well when we moved the A/C to the gate from the hardstand. After this happened we didin't do it anymore. Somebody forgot to take the chocks out of the wheel well after moving to the gate. oh well live and learn.
@profmet Wheel chocks, which are triangular pieces of wood or rubber are used to prevent the aircraft from rolling when parked. When we moved aircraft to the termianl gate after parking remotly overnight, we used to throw these wheel chocks up into the main gear wheel well so we didn't have to carry them. Apparently somebody forgot to take them out prior to departure and the chock got stuck in between the tires after the gear was retracted and then tried to extend.
