oh.. and the car just weighs 850 kg. imagine the torque that this beast produces and you´ll get a picture. is acceleratin it's just out of this world.
it´s fully manual with more than 600 horsepower and four wheel steering. Ari explains in his website that he just uses the clutch a lot because the car is overpowered. he says that on this type of gravel if he would change to a higher gear the wheels would just spun insanely and he would loose traction. so he uses the clutch to mantain turbo boost on mid gears and keep the car going.
@TheTheaterdreamer I guess you meant to say "if he changed to a lower gear". So he figured that since changing down was not an option, it would be better to be both on the throttle and on the clutch, keeping turbo boost high to accelerate faster afterwards, instead of staying in low revs and out of optimal torque range.
@VegetativeHorse yes... my bad :) you're correct. it's to lower gears not higher gears. i'm portuguese and sometimes my english gets tricky. thanks for the correction man. by the way, in wich dvd did you find this video. too bad there's not a version just with the inside camera... probably the director has one. he should share that with us :)
is this car automatic? it seems to me hes just reaching for a handbrake, i dont see him moving his arm on the straights, although this car probably has short gears for faster acceleration so he might already be in top gear when he exits the corner. hmmm...
More than 20 years have past since this incredible proof of skill by the flying finn and it stil boils my blood everytime i see it. Just wish i could be there when it actually happened. If Walter Rohrl were the Loeb of nowadays (by the syle of driving, always driving with no errors or mistakes, fighting for the best time), Vatanen were... Incomparable. living life at the fullest as well as he drived. completely flat out and showing no fear even after the crash of 1985. Trully amazing.

I meant youtube's recompression. I found it in a dvd but needed work in color adjustment, deinterlacing and proper resizing since it was quite mediocre. End file was a slightly grainy 800pixel video but grain gave way to compression artifacts after I uploaded it.
You really take care of your movies, man and it shows in the quality. It doesn't even look like a YouTube vid, more like something playing on a hard drive. Thanks for sharing, appreciate your efforts

Awesome quality vid man. Best version in YouTube

That was my intention. It was spoiled by the compression quite a bit in this version as well but at least it's watchable.
VegetativeHorse 1 year ago
Wow, that's already compressed? The original movie file must like be like watching the real thing, lol.
