It's ridiculous how the Republicans want us to believe we can just stop importing oil and drill our own. I just have to wonder how they can completely disregard logic.

Maybe if you opened a fucking a book retard, we have huge amounts of oil in the midwest and in Alaska. We're gonna drill in Alaska, but the problem about the oil in the midwest is that it is under shale, and that is very difficult to get to. We'd need explosives to help extract it.

The reserves in ANWR are estimated to contain enough oil to cover about a year and a half of usage. The "oil shale" you speak of is not actually oil locked under shale, it's kerogen contained IN the rock. Producing syncrude from this requires not only large amounts of energy, but also large amounts of water, which is not available in the required quantities near many oil shale deposits in the US. When you also consider pollution issues, it's safe to say this is quite a risky process.
