They erased the lead in 8 minutes. Then took the lead immediately after.
29 teams have no answer for this powerhouse!
Rodman, Pippen and Jordan would mentally kill Bosh, James and Wade, just by staring at them and trash talking them.
Rodman would make Bosh look like the toothpick he his, Pippen's defense would disrupt the entire Miami offensive set (after all, the ball goes thru James, huh), and Jordan would leave Wade sweeping dust on every drive and Wade would work SO hard for every point.
well the the problem with the miami's trio is that lebron "guard". wade "guard". bosh "center". lebron is big and i think thathe must play as a forward, he is always away form the basket making a play, the bulls trio michael jordan "guard". pipen "forward". rodman "power forward". jordan is the point geter and pipen is helping jordan to make a point and sometimes he brings the ball, and also rod man works as a rebounder and a great defender, miami's trio is a bad combination
your right. Its because they were more defensive minded and could back themselves up. Pippen and Jordan were complete defensive stoppers and same with Rodman. and Rodman could pull down boards then they had jordan who could run the show and pass better than leBron
I was in that game....it was the most impressive comeback I've seen in my life....the Bulls' suffocating defense were unparalleled...1996 Bulls are like the greatest team..ever ....they only lost 12 games....including playoff to win the trophy....that's just unbelievable...other NBA teams were like junior high school team...in front of the Bulls
Michael Jordan is one of the greatest of all time. Not THE greatest of all time. He is definately a starter on the greatest five of all time. If I had to choose the greatest of all time, this honor would probably got to Bill Russel. Remember, when the Bulls went 72-10 the leaugue was heavily diluted by expansion teams. That Chicago team would not have that many games if they were playing in the 80's.
@PleaseUntieMe bill russel was playing with a bunch of short white guys{no racial} ...from bill russel time to jordan time is a whole different type of basketball..
@PleaseUntieMe Russell won when there were less than 10 teams total. A lot easier to win titles with only 8-9 teams to beat. Jordan > all.. by a mile.
@PleaseUntieMe I agree. Bill Russell to me was the best player of all time. He could be great in any era of NBA basketball. Only player the league has seen that could completely dominate a game from start to finish without attempting a shot. Just wish he was playing in today's game. Michael Jordan is the second best player of all time, IMO. I also wish he was playing in today's game. He would have a field day with all these rules with handchecking and the lane would be wide open for him.
@Beaverfan731 russell played in an era where skills and talent are still on a low level and not to mention lesser team means more chances of domination while MJ played in an era where the skill and talent level is at its peak and not to mention more team, more difficulty of dominance. havent u ask yourself why the legends who played the game never even consider him nor include him in any discussion with regards to who's the greatest? well it's simple... HE WAS NEVER QUALIFIED IN THE FIRST PLACE!
@PleaseUntieMe heavily diluted? what made u think so? lucky guess?... it may have been diluted but it was never that substancial to assume that it was a weaker era. do u even think that the era where russell played is much tougher than that of MJ's? if u say yes then sad to say but u are a clear mental case or just simply ignorant or much more... just a hater. it is not that hard to see the difference between the two era's to be honest and to say otherwise is plain stupidity...
The greatest team of all time, hands down. any Lakers team, nope. Any Celtics team, nope. Any Pistons team, nope. I'm sorry to all other contenders, but you just don't compare to the greatest.
I have seen posts that compare Paul Pierce to Pippen. . 10 time all defense for Scottie Pippen. 5 time all NBA 3 on the first team. One of the all-time league leader in assits as a forward and the catalyst of the point forward moniker. Can play all five positions. Now for offense can score with the best of them but was the ultimate team player. There was another comment on his leadership saying Peirce was a better leader. Scottie was a leader that kept his team together when Jordon retired.
Jordan gave Brown the 'finger point' of a great play, not just because Jordan was a leader, but because Joedan accepted that Brown was the team's defensive specialist off the bench and any old-fashioned 3-point plays (as he did here) is a huge added bonus - in this case to help build a lead.
People thought this Orlando team could take Chicago in the semi's, despite the Bulls 72 wins, because they had Shaq, Penny, Grant. Scott, Anderson and the heaviest, biggest, strongest team in the league plus they had taken out the Bulls in the previous year (when MJ came out of retirement and was rusty).
However, the Bulls played the greatest defense of the modern era (much like the Celtics defense destroyed the league in the 60's of the previous era)
You have to read this!! you won't believe it!!! don't stop now!! make a wish - - - - - - - . . . . . Now that you have your wish it will happen! in exclatly 4 days. just copy this and paste it to 4 videos!! only one wish use it wisely and it WILL HAPPEN!!! but if you break the chain your wish will be the opposite
when the real DEFENSE happens back in jordan's era and the 90's.. miss the real defense because defense now does not exist all players and referee are crying babies..
This is the Greatest NBA team ever assembled,Just so fun and educational to watch play ball.I do believe this is they're 72-10 record breaking season. Superman,Batman and Rodman .
I still feel shivers when i see MJ with the 45 on his back, even tho it looked wrong HE WAS BACK!! this was a very solid orlando team with inside and outside threats plus all start point guard / centre combo and the bulls took them apart, Phil jackson was so clever using all them tree's against shaq to throw fouls and let him stink it up from the free throw line ALL night baby. these sort of wins prove the heart and start quality of this team, you cant coach that sort of quality
This Bulls Team was so mature and very good because of MJ and Pips leadership...they practically could play the whole season without a coaching staff.--actually Phil mentioned that.
If you looked at 8.00 onwards, u can see Rodman, MJ & Pippen putting up a great defensive moves against O'Neal and as soon as Pippen knocks the ball away from O'Neal, all THREE of them is already at half court!! They're like rottweilers!
Now that's what you call defense. I miss the way the game was played back in the 90s. I remember back in the day when the knicks vs. bulls would be the talk of the town. People in my neighborhood would bet on who would win. Nowadays you have mostly primma donnas who worry more about money.
not that it matters now, but the replay of Rodman's put back dunk at 8:35 looks like offensive interference...it was either too quick for them to tell or it was just bad officiating
athleticism helps in a long series and if the 86' Celtics and the 96' bulls faced off, the series will be long. and speed does kill. remember when the bulls played the heat in 2007. i was at game 2 and the bulls speed wore out the defending champs. Jordan and Pippen where also arguably the best duo in NBA history. they also had the best rebounder in Rodman. Jordan also had that look where if you saw it you knew he would put up 50 points and the bulls would win. bulls would win a 7 game series.
Ainge and DJ would have a terrible series against jordan/harper while MJ averages 35ppg. Rodman would limit mchale and pippen would slow down bird a little. I guess it would all depend on how Parrish/Walton play.
Harper-Jordan-Pippen-Rodman is the best 1-4 defensively in history. Randy brown is a good defender too. I say bulls in 7.
pippen is not slowing a 1986 Bird down he would eat him up like Jordan would eat the gaurds up top of the celtics. the difference is though the celtics have an advantage with McHale and Parrish because they simply cant put rodman on both.hwo the fuck would the 86 celtics match up against Kukoc? all 6'6" and bigger rebound well and versitile. bringing Walton in is suicide. 86' Celtics cant match up. not with Ainge and Johnson so small.
And I'm sorry, DJ vs Harper is not a push. I don't care what you say, DJ would have been an elite defender if he played in the 90's. DJ made 5 All-Star teams in his career, Harper? 0. DJ won NBA Finals MVP in 1979, Harper? No. And DJ made multiple All-Defensive teams, while Harper didn't. Magic Johnson himself has always said DJ was the player that defended him the best, that is a huge compliment. You are severely underrating DJ.
Uhm lets see PG position is even with Harper and Dennis Johnson except Harper was a better defender (no way MJ scores 63 on him). MJ WAY WAY better than Ainge. Bird barely better than Pippen. McHale vs, Rodman is a push because McHale better at offense but Rodman better at Defense. Okay Parish is better than Longley but may I add Longley held his own against SHaq (who is WAY bettr than Parrish). And your DARN right our bench would crap all over 86 Celtics (Bill Walton 6th man, what a joke).
Harper a better defender than DJ? NO WAY! Dennis Johnson made 9 All-Defensive teams in his career and will be inducted into the HOF in any moment. Ron Harper never made an All-Defensive team and isn't a HOF player.
Alot of people don't know DJ held MJ to only 41.7% shooting in the '87 playoffs.
Making all Defensive teams in the 80s should be an asterik because the 80s was a watered down era for Defense. No way Dennis Johnson even sniffs all-defensive team in the 90s. As for the "41 % FG", MJ still toeched him for 25-30 PPG (as he did everyone else but stop acting like DJ is the greatest defender ever, please). Offensively DJ had a more consistent jump shot where Harper had a post up game due to his size as a Guard. SO really its a push when you think about it.
No he isn't. Players like Hakeem & Jordan become elite defenders in the 80's. Just because the 80's were run n gun doesn't mean players didn't play defense. Then I guess guys like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, & Walt Frazier were garbage defenders because they played in a fast paced era also.
90's were the golden era of Defense, but the 80's were the golden era of the NBA. And that doesn't change the fact that the '86 Celtics have an advantage in every position except SG over the '96 Bulls.
Your seriously stupid if you think MJ and Hakeem were better Defenders in the 80s then they were in the 90s. MJ was average defensively in the 80s but in the 90s he turned into one of the best defenders ever.
Hakeem was soft in the 80s and had clumsy footwork defensively (offensive too), but dominated and had great defensive footwork in 90s. TO BE CONT...
MJ average defensively in the 80's? LMAO. You obviously don't know anything about basketball.
BTW, DJ vs Harper is not a push.
YEs DJ defended him best in Magic's prime because as mentioned NBA was weak defensively in the 80s. And MJ was average Defensively in the 80s, I should know as a diehard Bulls fan that watches tapes from the 80s games of Chicago.
Also, DJ vs. Harper comparison is for the selective yrs we are comparing. DJ (1986) vs Harper (1996). Career wise I agree DJ is better.
Seriously you are so freakin bias. Start seeing things for what they are.
Bill Russell, WIlt, and Walt were good defenders but you hit it on the dot--they played a weaker field in the NBA. No way they dominated 1990-present day (when there were actually athletes in the game old-timer).
Yeah 1980s are golden era of NBA yet my Bulls made the playoffs in 1986 with 30 WINS, LOL.
And despite your hallucinations, it still doesn;t change the FACT that 1996 Bulls won 72 games (87-13 overall) and your 1986 Celtics did not.
Bulls made the playoffs in the NBA in 1986 because 16/23 teams made the playoffs back then, so of course you are going to have losing teams in the playoffs.
And I will not argue with idiots who think everything in the NBA before 1990 was garbage.
I did not say it was garbage, obviosuly Bird and Magic made the game fun with the run and gun stuff.
And lesser teams is no excuse because the fact is a team that went 30-52 played in the playoffs (and still nearly won every game against the "Almighty Celtics" with ONE PLAYER only).
Dude are you retarted? a 30-52 team made the playoffs because 2/3 of teams made the playoffs back then. If 2/3 of the NBA made the playoffs in 1996 there would have been 6 teams .500 or under making the playoffs.
Okay my point is that when the NBA has enough teams were at least only 55% of the teams make the playoffs instead of 70% such as 1986 then you get a better playoffs. I mean 30-52 from 1990 beyond is looking at a top 5-7 draft pick to where back then it was a playoff team---I mean wow, just wow.
But with less teams in the NBA you have more talent on one team. Lakers had Magic, Kareem, Worthy, 3 HOF players. Celtics in '86 had Bird, McHale, Parish, Walton, & DJ, 5 HOF players. Sixers had Dr.J, M. Malone, & Barkley, 3 HOF players. Teams in the 80's were more stacked than they were in the 90's.
Well first of all I look at talent the YR we are talking about it. Teams were stacked from top to bottom in 90s. East 8th seed in 1996 had Zo, Hardaway, Rex Chapman, etc and they would kill East 8th seed in 1986--My Bulls (outside of MJ this team blows--Dave Corzine F*ckin started for them). Orlando had SHAQ, Penny (before injuries screwed him). NYK had Ewing, Starkes. Rockets had Clyde and Hakeem, Sonics had Kemp and the glove. Utah had JS/KM. Both 80s and 90s were stcaked.
My point was the elite teams of the 80's were better than the elite teams of the 90's. And I think we have gotten a little off subject. This has turned into a 80's vs 90's discussion.
The 1986 Celtics have an advantage in 4 out of 5 positions (face facts). And the Celtics have a big edge inside. In the end the Celtics are too big and too talented for the '96 Bulls. Just my opinion. Ask any basketball historian and they would agree with me.
Only true Advantage Celtics would have is Parrish over Longley. MJ way better than Ainge or DJ (whoever would TRY to match up against him), Bird sligghtly over Pippen (Pippen would play him tougher than anyone has ever defended Bird), McHale may have a slight ADV but just SLIGHT over Rodman, and okay even if DJ is better than Harper its a SLIGHT ADV again. After the old washed up Bill Walton who else makes up your Bench? Sighsting (sp?)?? What a joke. We had Kukoc, Kerr, TO BE CONT..
Bird is a top 5 player all-time, while Pippen is somewhere in the top 30. It's still an advantage. And Kevin McHale is not a "slight" advantage over Rodman. Comparing Rodman to McHale is like comparing a prime Ben Wallace to a prime Kevin Garnett. McHale has a sizable advantage.
And the Celtics bench was better. Walton won 6MOY in '86 (As did Kukoc). And I'll take former All-Star Scott Wedman over Steve Kerr (who was just a shooter) anyday.
Scott Wedman was an all-star in 1975-76, not 1985-86. Wow you Boston people are so bias. Steve Kerr was one of the top three-PT shooters in 95-96 and this was over guys like Reggie Miller, Dan Majerlie, Steve Smith, Rex Chapman, etc. And how did Bill Walton get 6th man of the yr AVG. 7.6 PPG and 6.8 RPG. Kukoc AVg. nearly double the PTS (in a Defensive minded era) and only had a couple less REB and had more Assists.
Notice I said "former" All-Star Scott Wedman. And I am not from Boston. BTW stats is a bad way to judge '86 Bill Walton, you had to be there to witness his infectious and sorely needed enthusiasm, the otherworldly way he and Bird freelanced together on pick-and-rolls, his solid defensive play, the way the Garden crowd responded to him, and how Walton's minutes allowed Bird, McHale and Parish to stay fresh AND keep the team playing at a high level. Give me Walton instead of Kukoc.
Well former all-star means nothing when talking about current team (1985-86 Celts in this matter). I about rolled opver laughing on Bill Walton "Solid Defensive Play". I mean just wow, that guy let Dave Corzine get some success on him. And block shots and steals are not indicators of how good you are at defense. Otherwise Tyson Chandler would be good at Defense (he sucks th) And fed off the Garden crowd--this ain't no popularity conest its about getting the job done (which he did but still).
And your Celtics have the more talented team and matchup ADV--lol. The Bulls are 10 times (if not more) of a better Defensive team than the Celtics and if you disagree with that your a homer. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS ( even though the exception was in the 80s until the Bad Boy Pistons).
Also, 1985-86 Bulls almost won every game vs. Boston in playoffs with ONE Player only. MJ at his prime/peak in 1995-96 with a much better supporting cast. His team in 85-86 was filled with NBDL players
I will admit Celtics would have ADV on Offense but not by much. Afterall any team with Michael Jordan on it is gonna have a lot of Offensive Strongpoints and no way any team is 10 times better than it.
Offense wins Championships???? Wow, just wow. But you da man (lol).
Your right, the Bulls Defense was 15 times better than the Celtics Defense. WHo cares if yall had 2 guys all NBA Defense in the watered down NBA Defense of the 1980s. The Bulls had 3 players ALL NBA Defense in the glory yrs of NBA Defense--the 90s.
And your huge ADV inside can be neglegated as we held it down okay against Shaq in 1996--A player way better than the overrated Parrish.
And who cares if the Bulls won 72 games in a watered down / expansion season. And please don't compare Orlando's frontcout to Boston's frontcourt. Horace Grant didn't even play for the Magic in the ECF.
NBA was not watered down in 1995-96 idiot. Lets see teams winning 30 GAMES making the playoffs, the ECF yall played a team with druggies on it---YOUR SEASON WAS WATERED DOWN. We played an excellent team in RD one in the Heat who had a winning record and were even better since they were a team that changed by trade deadline (hence same team that was in 97 EAST Finals). Expansion teams mean more competition, eliminating the worthless 30 win teams from playoffs.
Those expansion teams each were better than the 1985-86 Bulls and a couple other of those sub .500 teams in the "NBA Gloriuous 1985-86"--lol. And those expansion teams are still NBA teams idiot. Chicago won 72 REG Season games. LOL at Celtics only winning 67 REG Season games. I love how you keep denying which team has the best NBA Record in a single season ever with your idiot excuses.
Winning 72 games in a watered down / expansion NBA isn't impressive. Plus I really don't care about records. For the ONE HUNDREDTH TIME, THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS. I think you're too dumb to realize that. Just because you have a better record doen't mean you are a better team. Look at Orlando and Cleveland right now in the ECF, look at the 2006 NBA Finals. Teams with the best record don't always win. Again, THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS. And the Celtics have an advantage in 4/5 positions.
Our 72 wins don;t mean a thing without the ring. I am braging about overall record. 87 (most ever) and 13 losses (least ever) and .870 WIN PCT. (Best ever). Now you canstay in your fantasy world with all your BS (you have not said one true thing yet) but only way we would know who would win is if we get a time machine and the two played each other. But come talk to me when someone else beats 87-13 with a Ring.
Any other team in NBA History=Lesser record than that.
If some team in 2009-10 or beyond beats that record then I will be a good sport and congratulate them for taking the role of Best Team Ever. Thats Sportsmanship.
LMAO you just don't get it. Cleveland won 66 games this year, while Orlando won 59. Orlando is leading 3 game to 1 in the ECF against Cleveland. You know why Orlando is leading Cleveland? MATCHUP PROBLEMS!! Cavs have no one to guard Hedo or Lewis, Cavs have a better record, but are still down in the series. THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCH UPS!! Having the best record doesn't mean shit.
'86 Celtics vs 96 Bulls: The Celtics are better at PG, SF, PF, & C. Funny how you're so delusional.
Every other team in NBA History is below that mark.
Besides your "matchups" crap is out of the window since NBA players from 1990-present are way more athletic than anything below that. But again the only way this would get settled in your head-to-head fantasy is if a time machine was present and they played each other.
Its hard to be more talented when you are to slow (i.e. the Celtics) to get in front of your man driving to the hoop and same with getting over for help defense. The Bulls Speed on Defense is suffocating and yes I know the Celtics play great offense but its tough to do what you do offensively when you have traps coming at you all over the court and someone up in your grill pressuring you to move faster on offense than you are accustomed to. Plus the Bulls were stronger as well. Speed kills.
Okay you use CLE/ORL as example, I will use 2006 playoff series DAL/SPURS example. Spurs were more talented at every position (just about) but Dallas was way more athletic and too fast, and stronger. Same with 96 Bulls (way more athletic) against 86 Celtics. Speed kills.
ANd you know what else kills ya: Your favorite line:
Okay Showtime Lakers were athletic but no where as athletic as the top tier teams of the 90s. Now no I am not saying the Lakers would lose to all those teams but my point on topic is the Celtics of the 80s did not win with athleticness but fundamentals. But still man Speed kills, another example is when the Mavs got it reversed on them when Warriors beat them in 2007. MAtchups in Mavs favor but athleticness too much of a factor for Warriors advantage.
Bulls might have been more athletic than the Showtime Lakers, but the Lakers ran more. The '86 Celtics played in a fast paced era and still dominated. Speed wouldn't hurt the Celtics.
And LOL @ you bringing up Mavs vs Warriors in 2007. The matchups obviously favored the Warriors, that series is another example of the team with the best record doesn't always win.
Matchups in hoops favored Mavs but Warriors were way more athletic which compensated way more. And again athletes in the 90s and beyond are WAY MORE ATHLETIC than 80s and below. Yes part of Celtics run and gun was due to great ball mvmnt, running attitude, and lack of opponents defenses which allowed them to run. CHicago would bother them with length and superior speed, forcing the Celtics to play at a pace out of their comfort level.
You must be an idiot if you think the matchups favored the Mavs. Warriors were more athletic, but also had the advantage in matchups. I'll take intelligence over athletic ability any day. Just look at the Suns vs the Spurs in 2005 & 2007, suns were more athletic, but the Spurs were a smarter team and defeated the Suns.
The 1996 Bulls were an intelligent team, but I think the '86 Celtics were even smarter. I'll say it before and I'll say it again, Celtics have an advantage in 4/5 positions.
And I'll say it again, The Bulls are 100 times more athletic than the Celtics. lol, I mean did anyone on that Celtics team have a vertical worth crap or speed worth anything? Plus, MJ was better athlteically and as a hoop player in 96 than he was in 86 and Bulls in 86 were in every game of that series against Celts with one great player and a bunch of juco ability level players after that. So obviously beter MJ and WAY WAY WAY WAY better supporting cast in 96 is gonna get the job done in 96.
And I'll say it again. The Celtics were 100 times more talented than the Bulls. You must must be insane if you think Jordan was more athletic in '96 than he was in '86. And LMAO if you think the 86 Bulls were in every game of that series vs the Celtics. There was only 1 close game in that series, and that was game 2. Celtics won game 1 by 19 Points and Game 3 by 18 Points. The 86 Celtics beat the Bulls by an average of 13.7 Points in 3 games. That is not a close series at all.
I thought Game 1 of that series was close until the last few MIN when Boston pulled away. Chicago still scored over 100 PPG that series, considering it was MJ and a bunch of guys that were at the same talent was JUCO players.
MJ was defintely better as a plyaer and athlete in 96 than he was in 86. In 86 playoffs he sat out most of REG season with injury. In summer of 95 he trained his butt off and was at his best in 1995-96.
Celtics 100 times more talented than Bulls--LOL, whatever.
How can you possibly think Jordan was more athletic in '96? Jordan was 32 years old during the '96 season and 22 during '86. People hit their peak in terms of athleticism during their early-mid 20's. That's like saying Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant RIGHT NOW are more athletic than they were 8-9 years ago.
yeah but he's more polished. smarter, better mid and long range game. physically more stronger and still in 96' would blow by any of the celtic gaurds. probably get them in plenty of foul trouble by posting them
the suns underestimated the spurs athleticism .. they had manu a,tony parker , bruce bowen and duncan that will run and gun if they had to .. they were more versatile than the suns plus the backcourt clearly outmatched the suns backcourt ...parker is too quick for steve nash to guard ... that goes the for ginuboli who get beat any defender to the basket with footwork and speed
U r a fucking idiot. Paul Pierce is not better than Scottie Pippen. We had the best player of all time. MICHAEL JORDAN. we had one of the best rebounders of all time. Dennis Rodman. SCOTTIE Pippen as a second scoring options. three first team NBA defenders. and a great supporting cast thet could shoot the ball. It took the Celtics 7 games to beat the fucking hawks. Its not even a close.
O shit that is why i thought you were so dumb. I thought you were talking about 07-08 Celtics. Bulls would still murder you guys. remember in 1986 playoff series game 2 when Jordan scored 63 points. He had the worst supporting cast ever. with Scottie Pippen and Rodman the bulls would win.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
offensively paul pierce is a better player than scottie , footwork, post moves , plus a better shooter ..pierce defense is pretty underrated ..scottie got him beat on defense cause scottie is alot quicker with a longer arm reach .. both players put up the same amount of numbers in every category except steals where scottie when that department
@gocubs526 Paul Pierce doesn't even belong in the same gym as Scottie Pippen. In my opinion, Scottie Pippen was the best non-center defender in the history of the league. And, I don't think that's controversal to say... The man won 6 championships. 8 if you count his two gold medals. And to those of you that say that he won them because of Jordan... Well... Jordan never won one without Scottie Pippen.
don't pay attention to noobs....ajajajajajaj...a comparison with anyone vs Jordan is a complete utterly and pointless waste of your time...grab a beer and let the young pup get more ashamed of his outstanding noobness...
@gocubs526 dude u dont need to be an asshole just bc u sit behind a screen. Scottie n pierce were both tremendous players, but I agree w that kid, Pierce IS a better player. For some reason, Pierce has never gotten the notoriety that a superstar like him deserves. Pierce, like pippen, is a terrific defender, and an even better scorer. Hes a great leader, better than scottie ever was. Granted, pippen was prob the best perimeter defender ever, but u look a lot better playin next to MJ
@tikealpzyx You can't compare Pierce's defense with Pippen's defense. Pippen absolutely oppressed the person he was guarding on a consistent basis. The defensive accolades and statistics between these two players don't even compare. Offence on the other hand is another arguement.
@gocubs526 Pippen was a better defender, rebounder and passer than Pierce, plus, pippen will give you 20 points a game in his prime! He's better than Pierce!
why do u respond to these toddlers who dont know what basketball is. anyone saying paul pierce is better than pippen is a moron and shouldn't watch basketball anymore.
And Mavs from a hoops standpt had the ADV as no one was on Dirk Nowitski's or Josh Howards level. However, the Wearriors were faster, better leapers, and scrappier, which is why the upset.
SPurs/Suns, Yes Suns more athlteic but teams of same era can compensate for it better. A team from the 80s will never be as athletic as a team from 1990-beyond. Its night and day between the two athleticnesses.
You're right. Teams in the 80's were not as athletic as teams in 1990-beyond, but they were better. Seriously, in the 80's you had 4 teams that are in the discussion in the top 10 teams all time. 1983 Sixers. 1986 Celtics. 1987 Lakers. & 1989 Pistons. Teams were better in the 80's than they were in the 90's and today's NBA.
Okay first of all those "Greatest top 10 teams" mentioned were all different season not just one season. 2---80s were top heavy, you had 1, 2, 3 teams as contednors then the rest were garbage. The 90s you had 5-6 Title caliber teams.
ANd again Those 80s teams (except for 89-90 Pistons) would not compete since 90s and beyond were stronger, quicker, faster, leaped higher and farther, etc. Athleticism and footwork was just purely better in 90s and beyond.
i disagree ..the 80s didnt have much of a great defense as the 90s era .. plus many players in the 90s became capable of creating their own shot without relying on a superstar to draw double teams to get them open looks ..you had lakers and celtics going to the finals most the time beside the pistons the other teams that you mention werent that great
What the fuck are you on about? Mark Aguire, Kevin McHale, Isaih thomas,Blackman, Nique, Mullin, porter, drexler, these are great individual players from the 80's. Do you think the nba was just created in the last 20 years. back then an elbow was not a foul unless there was blood. These guys went to war every night not like the nba today with those baby defensive rules. do some research before you start chatting shit on the internet. Mark Jackson, reggie lewis, KJ all 80's players motherfucker.
lol .. do my research before i start chatting ? please.. your comment is hilarious , elbow was a foul back then stop overexaggerating the past. many games have been recorded from the past and could see for yourself the defense isnt all that great in the 80s. espn classics , nba. tv and i been watching basketball since the late 80s.
I feel you dog! I can remember seeing guys like Darrell Walker,Alvin Robertson,Sidney Moncrief,Mark Eaton,Olajuwon,Michael Cooper,Mo Cheeks, and Derek Harper. There are many more, but these guys were defensive wizards. They don't exist anymore and that's why I play more ball than watching it.Any assclown that makes remarks like locksmith doesn't really know the game. He's just running his mouth or in this case typing "shit".
Our bench also had Randy Brown's excellent Defense and other guys that could fit the Triangle system. BAck to the Center position, in the 1996 Playoffs we faced the likes of Shaq, Ewing, and Mourning, and 2 of those 3 are better than Parrish and we wethered those storms. We have the edge in coaching too, Phil Jackson.
80s elite teams. WHo was that yall faced in 1986 East Finals? A Bucks team were half their stars were on drugs. They'd be no match for Shaq/Penny and the Magic.
Yeah and most of those minutes were closing out games by playing great Defense as him and STeve Kerr usually substituted offense for defense in late game situations.
So what about the Point DIfferiantial. The Magic won more games than the Bucks and did not have a bunch of drugies on their team.
Here is the ultimate topper: Tell me who won more games and lost the least games and had a better WInning PCT. between the 1995-96 Bulls and 85-86 Celts? And no BS biases in your answer, just ANS.
AGAIN ANSWER MY QUESTION Which was who had a better W-L record overall and a better winning pct. overall between 1995-96 Bulls and 1985-86 Celts without your BS "1980s is so much better" crap. Its simple one word answer--1995-96 Bulls or 1985-86 Celtics.
And lol, now you are putting words into Dennis Rodman's mouth. Nice. And even though you are not from Boston you are obviously an ESPN guy since they butt-kiss all Boston teams. Let me guess are you a Patriots fan too?
Bill Walton led the NBA in Defensive Rating in 1986. Walton was a solid defensive player. Don't judge a player by his looks (which I think you are doing).
AGAIN ANSWER MY QUESTION: Which team has an advantage in 4 of the 5 positions?
Defensive Rating??? WHat the heck are you talking about? Another meaningless stat when scrubs such as Dave Corzine score easy on you.
No, You answer my question, you don't jack me around like that. Because regardless of your little 4 out of 5 crap question who has the best W-L and WIN PCT. with a ring in a single season in NBA History?????? My question is a fact, yours is an opinion.
Now I know your a little slow so I will do this slow and easy for you. The WINS in the Bulls column are higher than the ones in the Celtics column, and the Losses in the Bulls column are lower than Celts column, and Bulls WIN PCT is higher.
Why are you bringing up records? The team isn't better because they have a better record. THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS. And the Bulls matchup badly vs the Celtics. Celtics have more firepower inside and a more talented team.
Wow are you that stupid that you can't answer a simple question. And as for as your opinion of the Celtics having the matchup advantage, well the only way it could be a proved fact if the two teams played each other. But as far as Best TEam in History you have to go by best W-L overall (PCT. as well) and that belongs to 1995-96 Bulls. So stop sucking on sour grapes. If a team next season wins it all and breaks our record then I will be a man and pas the torch to them. THATS SPORTSMANSHIP.

They erased the lead in 8 minutes. Then took the lead immediately after.
29 teams have no answer for this powerhouse!
Rodman, Pippen and Jordan would mentally kill Bosh, James and Wade, just by staring at them and trash talking them.
Rodman would make Bosh look like the toothpick he his, Pippen's defense would disrupt the entire Miami offensive set (after all, the ball goes thru James, huh), and Jordan would leave Wade sweeping dust on every drive and Wade would work SO hard for every point.

mcrjay23 4 months ago
well the the problem with the miami's trio is that lebron "guard". wade "guard". bosh "center". lebron is big and i think thathe must play as a forward, he is always away form the basket making a play, the bulls trio michael jordan "guard". pipen "forward". rodman "power forward". jordan is the point geter and pipen is helping jordan to make a point and sometimes he brings the ball, and also rod man works as a rebounder and a great defender, miami's trio is a bad combination

your right. Its because they were more defensive minded and could back themselves up. Pippen and Jordan were complete defensive stoppers and same with Rodman. and Rodman could pull down boards then they had jordan who could run the show and pass better than leBron

@PleaseUntieMe Russell won when there were less than 10 teams total. A lot easier to win titles with only 8-9 teams to beat. Jordan > all.. by a mile.
CockysThoughts 9 months ago
@PleaseUntieMe I agree. Bill Russell to me was the best player of all time. He could be great in any era of NBA basketball. Only player the league has seen that could completely dominate a game from start to finish without attempting a shot. Just wish he was playing in today's game. Michael Jordan is the second best player of all time, IMO. I also wish he was playing in today's game. He would have a field day with all these rules with handchecking and the lane would be wide open for him.
Beaverfan731 8 months ago
@Beaverfan731 russell played in an era where skills and talent are still on a low level and not to mention lesser team means more chances of domination while MJ played in an era where the skill and talent level is at its peak and not to mention more team, more difficulty of dominance. havent u ask yourself why the legends who played the game never even consider him nor include him in any discussion with regards to who's the greatest? well it's simple... HE WAS NEVER QUALIFIED IN THE FIRST PLACE!
wornoutshoes11 7 months ago
@PleaseUntieMe heavily diluted? what made u think so? lucky guess?... it may have been diluted but it was never that substancial to assume that it was a weaker era. do u even think that the era where russell played is much tougher than that of MJ's? if u say yes then sad to say but u are a clear mental case or just simply ignorant or much more... just a hater. it is not that hard to see the difference between the two era's to be honest and to say otherwise is plain stupidity...

Eaglevision75 10 months ago 5
Jordan gave Brown the 'finger point' of a great play, not just because Jordan was a leader, but because Joedan accepted that Brown was the team's defensive specialist off the bench and any old-fashioned 3-point plays (as he did here) is a huge added bonus - in this case to help build a lead.
PaulJuliusSokoloff 10 months ago
At 4:40, Pippen makes an easy pass to an open MJ just waiting if needed.
Would you see a driving Wade make a dish like that to an open LeBron? Naaah, he would take on the 3 guys inside and try to be a hero.
PaulJuliusSokoloff 10 months ago 4
This was the greatest sweep of all-time!
However, the Bulls played the greatest defense of the modern era (much like the Celtics defense destroyed the league in the 60's of the previous era)

athleticism helps in a long series and if the 86' Celtics and the 96' bulls faced off, the series will be long. and speed does kill. remember when the bulls played the heat in 2007. i was at game 2 and the bulls speed wore out the defending champs. Jordan and Pippen where also arguably the best duo in NBA history. they also had the best rebounder in Rodman. Jordan also had that look where if you saw it you knew he would put up 50 points and the bulls would win. bulls would win a 7 game series.

jeanrollan 2 years ago
Ainge and DJ would have a terrible series against jordan/harper while MJ averages 35ppg. Rodman would limit mchale and pippen would slow down bird a little. I guess it would all depend on how Parrish/Walton play.
Harper-Jordan-Pippen-Rodman is the best 1-4 defensively in history. Randy brown is a good defender too. I say bulls in 7.
shiziest 2 years ago
@shiziest
pippen is not slowing a 1986 Bird down he would eat him up like Jordan would eat the gaurds up top of the celtics. the difference is though the celtics have an advantage with McHale and Parrish because they simply cant put rodman on both.hwo the fuck would the 86 celtics match up against Kukoc? all 6'6" and bigger rebound well and versitile. bringing Walton in is suicide. 86' Celtics cant match up. not with Ainge and Johnson so small.
Dkouts57 1 year ago
And I'm sorry, DJ vs Harper is not a push. I don't care what you say, DJ would have been an elite defender if he played in the 90's. DJ made 5 All-Star teams in his career, Harper? 0. DJ won NBA Finals MVP in 1979, Harper? No. And DJ made multiple All-Defensive teams, while Harper didn't. Magic Johnson himself has always said DJ was the player that defended him the best, that is a huge compliment. You are severely underrating DJ.
DJ > Harper
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
1986 Celtics vs 1996 Bulls.
The '86 Celtics have an advantage in every position except the SG spot and have a better bench. Bulls fans are in denial. '86 Celtics were better.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Uhm lets see PG position is even with Harper and Dennis Johnson except Harper was a better defender (no way MJ scores 63 on him). MJ WAY WAY better than Ainge. Bird barely better than Pippen. McHale vs, Rodman is a push because McHale better at offense but Rodman better at Defense. Okay Parish is better than Longley but may I add Longley held his own against SHaq (who is WAY bettr than Parrish). And your DARN right our bench would crap all over 86 Celtics (Bill Walton 6th man, what a joke).
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Harper a better defender than DJ? NO WAY! Dennis Johnson made 9 All-Defensive teams in his career and will be inducted into the HOF in any moment. Ron Harper never made an All-Defensive team and isn't a HOF player.
Alot of people don't know DJ held MJ to only 41.7% shooting in the '87 playoffs.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Making all Defensive teams in the 80s should be an asterik because the 80s was a watered down era for Defense. No way Dennis Johnson even sniffs all-defensive team in the 90s. As for the "41 % FG", MJ still toeched him for 25-30 PPG (as he did everyone else but stop acting like DJ is the greatest defender ever, please). Offensively DJ had a more consistent jump shot where Harper had a post up game due to his size as a Guard. SO really its a push when you think about it.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Then I guess MJ winning DPOY in 1988 should be an asterik since it was the 80's.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Yes it should be because Jordan was 100-times the defender in the 90s than he was in the 80s.
FYI 1996 Bulls had 3 players on NBA ALl-Defensive team first team (Golden era of Defense for the NBA).
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
No he isn't. Players like Hakeem & Jordan become elite defenders in the 80's. Just because the 80's were run n gun doesn't mean players didn't play defense. Then I guess guys like Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, & Walt Frazier were garbage defenders because they played in a fast paced era also.
90's were the golden era of Defense, but the 80's were the golden era of the NBA. And that doesn't change the fact that the '86 Celtics have an advantage in every position except SG over the '96 Bulls.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Your seriously stupid if you think MJ and Hakeem were better Defenders in the 80s then they were in the 90s. MJ was average defensively in the 80s but in the 90s he turned into one of the best defenders ever.
Hakeem was soft in the 80s and had clumsy footwork defensively (offensive too), but dominated and had great defensive footwork in 90s. TO BE CONT...
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
MJ average defensively in the 80's? LMAO. You obviously don't know anything about basketball.
BTW, DJ vs Harper is not a push. Magic Johnson himself has always said DJ was the player that defended him the best, that is a huge compliment.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
YEs DJ defended him best in Magic's prime because as mentioned NBA was weak defensively in the 80s. And MJ was average Defensively in the 80s, I should know as a diehard Bulls fan that watches tapes from the 80s games of Chicago.
Also, DJ vs. Harper comparison is for the selective yrs we are comparing. DJ (1986) vs Harper (1996). Career wise I agree DJ is better.
Seriously you are so freakin bias. Start seeing things for what they are.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Bill Russell, WIlt, and Walt were good defenders but you hit it on the dot--they played a weaker field in the NBA. No way they dominated 1990-present day (when there were actually athletes in the game old-timer).
Yeah 1980s are golden era of NBA yet my Bulls made the playoffs in 1986 with 30 WINS, LOL.
And despite your hallucinations, it still doesn;t change the FACT that 1996 Bulls won 72 games (87-13 overall) and your 1986 Celtics did not.
PS---Better at every position???---lol.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Bulls made the playoffs in the NBA in 1986 because 16/23 teams made the playoffs back then, so of course you are going to have losing teams in the playoffs.
And I will not argue with idiots who think everything in the NBA before 1990 was garbage.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
I did not say it was garbage, obviosuly Bird and Magic made the game fun with the run and gun stuff.
And lesser teams is no excuse because the fact is a team that went 30-52 played in the playoffs (and still nearly won every game against the "Almighty Celtics" with ONE PLAYER only).
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Dude are you retarted? a 30-52 team made the playoffs because 2/3 of teams made the playoffs back then. If 2/3 of the NBA made the playoffs in 1996 there would have been 6 teams .500 or under making the playoffs.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Okay my point is that when the NBA has enough teams were at least only 55% of the teams make the playoffs instead of 70% such as 1986 then you get a better playoffs. I mean 30-52 from 1990 beyond is looking at a top 5-7 draft pick to where back then it was a playoff team---I mean wow, just wow.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
But with less teams in the NBA you have more talent on one team. Lakers had Magic, Kareem, Worthy, 3 HOF players. Celtics in '86 had Bird, McHale, Parish, Walton, & DJ, 5 HOF players. Sixers had Dr.J, M. Malone, & Barkley, 3 HOF players. Teams in the 80's were more stacked than they were in the 90's.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
My point was the elite teams of the 80's were better than the elite teams of the 90's. And I think we have gotten a little off subject. This has turned into a 80's vs 90's discussion.
The 1986 Celtics have an advantage in 4 out of 5 positions (face facts). And the Celtics have a big edge inside. In the end the Celtics are too big and too talented for the '96 Bulls. Just my opinion. Ask any basketball historian and they would agree with me.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Bird is a top 5 player all-time, while Pippen is somewhere in the top 30. It's still an advantage. And Kevin McHale is not a "slight" advantage over Rodman. Comparing Rodman to McHale is like comparing a prime Ben Wallace to a prime Kevin Garnett. McHale has a sizable advantage.
And the Celtics bench was better. Walton won 6MOY in '86 (As did Kukoc). And I'll take former All-Star Scott Wedman over Steve Kerr (who was just a shooter) anyday.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Scott Wedman was an all-star in 1975-76, not 1985-86. Wow you Boston people are so bias. Steve Kerr was one of the top three-PT shooters in 95-96 and this was over guys like Reggie Miller, Dan Majerlie, Steve Smith, Rex Chapman, etc. And how did Bill Walton get 6th man of the yr AVG. 7.6 PPG and 6.8 RPG. Kukoc AVg. nearly double the PTS (in a Defensive minded era) and only had a couple less REB and had more Assists.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Notice I said "former" All-Star Scott Wedman. And I am not from Boston. BTW stats is a bad way to judge '86 Bill Walton, you had to be there to witness his infectious and sorely needed enthusiasm, the otherworldly way he and Bird freelanced together on pick-and-rolls, his solid defensive play, the way the Garden crowd responded to him, and how Walton's minutes allowed Bird, McHale and Parish to stay fresh AND keep the team playing at a high level. Give me Walton instead of Kukoc.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Well former all-star means nothing when talking about current team (1985-86 Celts in this matter). I about rolled opver laughing on Bill Walton "Solid Defensive Play". I mean just wow, that guy let Dave Corzine get some success on him. And block shots and steals are not indicators of how good you are at defense. Otherwise Tyson Chandler would be good at Defense (he sucks th) And fed off the Garden crowd--this ain't no popularity conest its about getting the job done (which he did but still).
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
And your Celtics have the more talented team and matchup ADV--lol. The Bulls are 10 times (if not more) of a better Defensive team than the Celtics and if you disagree with that your a homer. DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS ( even though the exception was in the 80s until the Bad Boy Pistons).
Also, 1985-86 Bulls almost won every game vs. Boston in playoffs with ONE Player only. MJ at his prime/peak in 1995-96 with a much better supporting cast. His team in 85-86 was filled with NBDL players
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
And the Celtics are 10 times better offensively.
Offense wins championships!!
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
I will admit Celtics would have ADV on Offense but not by much. Afterall any team with Michael Jordan on it is gonna have a lot of Offensive Strongpoints and no way any team is 10 times better than it.
Offense wins Championships???? Wow, just wow. But you da man (lol).
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
And no way is the Bulls Defense 10 times better than the Celtics D. Celtics had 2 players on the All-Defensive team in 1986.
Celtics have more talent and a huge advantage inside.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Your right, the Bulls Defense was 15 times better than the Celtics Defense. WHo cares if yall had 2 guys all NBA Defense in the watered down NBA Defense of the 1980s. The Bulls had 3 players ALL NBA Defense in the glory yrs of NBA Defense--the 90s.
And your huge ADV inside can be neglegated as we held it down okay against Shaq in 1996--A player way better than the overrated Parrish.
'96 Bulls 87-13
'86 Celtics 82-18, DEAL WITH IT.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
And who cares if the Bulls won 72 games in a watered down / expansion season. And please don't compare Orlando's frontcout to Boston's frontcourt. Horace Grant didn't even play for the Magic in the ECF.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
NBA was not watered down in 1995-96 idiot. Lets see teams winning 30 GAMES making the playoffs, the ECF yall played a team with druggies on it---YOUR SEASON WAS WATERED DOWN. We played an excellent team in RD one in the Heat who had a winning record and were even better since they were a team that changed by trade deadline (hence same team that was in 97 EAST Finals). Expansion teams mean more competition, eliminating the worthless 30 win teams from playoffs.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
I'm not done with you Boston boy. I was only comparing Shaq to Robert Parrish. If you think Robert Parrish is better than Shaq then wow, whatever.
And who cares about the 1986 Celtics who have like the 5th or 6th best NBA record ever, not DA BEST in the 1995-96 87-13 World Champion Bulls.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Chicago faced the two expansion teams 6 times during the 1996 season and won 5 of those game. So really Chicago only won 67 games.
LOL @ counting Chicago's 5 victories over EXPANSION teams.
86 Celtics > 96 Bulls
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Those expansion teams each were better than the 1985-86 Bulls and a couple other of those sub .500 teams in the "NBA Gloriuous 1985-86"--lol. And those expansion teams are still NBA teams idiot. Chicago won 72 REG Season games. LOL at Celtics only winning 67 REG Season games. I love how you keep denying which team has the best NBA Record in a single season ever with your idiot excuses.
CHICAGO BULLS 1995-96 (87-13).
Boston Celtics 1985-86 (82-18).
I'm waiting to hear your next BS.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Winning 72 games in a watered down / expansion NBA isn't impressive. Plus I really don't care about records. For the ONE HUNDREDTH TIME, THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS. I think you're too dumb to realize that. Just because you have a better record doen't mean you are a better team. Look at Orlando and Cleveland right now in the ECF, look at the 2006 NBA Finals. Teams with the best record don't always win. Again, THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS. And the Celtics have an advantage in 4/5 positions.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Our 72 wins don;t mean a thing without the ring. I am braging about overall record. 87 (most ever) and 13 losses (least ever) and .870 WIN PCT. (Best ever). Now you canstay in your fantasy world with all your BS (you have not said one true thing yet) but only way we would know who would win is if we get a time machine and the two played each other. But come talk to me when someone else beats 87-13 with a Ring.
1995-96 Chicago Bulls 72-10 (87-13 overall)
1985-86 Celtics 67-15 (82-18)
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Funny how you are ignoring the matchups and just going by records.
Pathetic.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Chicago Bulls 72-10 (87-13 Overall)
Any other team in NBA History=Lesser record than that.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Celtics are better at PG, SF, PF, & C.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Chicago Bulls 72-10 (87-13 Overall)
Any other team in NBA History=Lesser record than that.
If some team in 2009-10 or beyond beats that record then I will be a good sport and congratulate them for taking the role of Best Team Ever. Thats Sportsmanship.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Funny how you're so delusional.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
1995-96 Chicago Bulls 72-10, 87-13 overall
Every other team in NBA History is below that mark.
Besides your "matchups" crap is out of the window since NBA players from 1990-present are way more athletic than anything below that. But again the only way this would get settled in your head-to-head fantasy is if a time machine was present and they played each other.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Bulls may be more athletic, but the Celtics are a more talented team.
Celtics are better at PG, SF, PF, & C.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Its hard to be more talented when you are to slow (i.e. the Celtics) to get in front of your man driving to the hoop and same with getting over for help defense. The Bulls Speed on Defense is suffocating and yes I know the Celtics play great offense but its tough to do what you do offensively when you have traps coming at you all over the court and someone up in your grill pressuring you to move faster on offense than you are accustomed to. Plus the Bulls were stronger as well. Speed kills.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Okay you use CLE/ORL as example, I will use 2006 playoff series DAL/SPURS example. Spurs were more talented at every position (just about) but Dallas was way more athletic and too fast, and stronger. Same with 96 Bulls (way more athletic) against 86 Celtics. Speed kills.
ANd you know what else kills ya: Your favorite line:
1995-96 Chicago Bulls 72-10 87-13 Overall
Every other team in NBA History--Below this mark.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
LMAO. Celtics went up against the Showtime Lakers and did ok.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Okay Showtime Lakers were athletic but no where as athletic as the top tier teams of the 90s. Now no I am not saying the Lakers would lose to all those teams but my point on topic is the Celtics of the 80s did not win with athleticness but fundamentals. But still man Speed kills, another example is when the Mavs got it reversed on them when Warriors beat them in 2007. MAtchups in Mavs favor but athleticness too much of a factor for Warriors advantage.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Bulls might have been more athletic than the Showtime Lakers, but the Lakers ran more. The '86 Celtics played in a fast paced era and still dominated. Speed wouldn't hurt the Celtics.
And LOL @ you bringing up Mavs vs Warriors in 2007. The matchups obviously favored the Warriors, that series is another example of the team with the best record doesn't always win.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Matchups in hoops favored Mavs but Warriors were way more athletic which compensated way more. And again athletes in the 90s and beyond are WAY MORE ATHLETIC than 80s and below. Yes part of Celtics run and gun was due to great ball mvmnt, running attitude, and lack of opponents defenses which allowed them to run. CHicago would bother them with length and superior speed, forcing the Celtics to play at a pace out of their comfort level.
Now time to watch TV.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
You must be an idiot if you think the matchups favored the Mavs. Warriors were more athletic, but also had the advantage in matchups. I'll take intelligence over athletic ability any day. Just look at the Suns vs the Spurs in 2005 & 2007, suns were more athletic, but the Spurs were a smarter team and defeated the Suns.
The 1996 Bulls were an intelligent team, but I think the '86 Celtics were even smarter. I'll say it before and I'll say it again, Celtics have an advantage in 4/5 positions.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
And I'll say it again, The Bulls are 100 times more athletic than the Celtics. lol, I mean did anyone on that Celtics team have a vertical worth crap or speed worth anything? Plus, MJ was better athlteically and as a hoop player in 96 than he was in 86 and Bulls in 86 were in every game of that series against Celts with one great player and a bunch of juco ability level players after that. So obviously beter MJ and WAY WAY WAY WAY better supporting cast in 96 is gonna get the job done in 96.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
And I'll say it again. The Celtics were 100 times more talented than the Bulls. You must must be insane if you think Jordan was more athletic in '96 than he was in '86. And LMAO if you think the 86 Bulls were in every game of that series vs the Celtics. There was only 1 close game in that series, and that was game 2. Celtics won game 1 by 19 Points and Game 3 by 18 Points. The 86 Celtics beat the Bulls by an average of 13.7 Points in 3 games. That is not a close series at all.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
I thought Game 1 of that series was close until the last few MIN when Boston pulled away. Chicago still scored over 100 PPG that series, considering it was MJ and a bunch of guys that were at the same talent was JUCO players.
MJ was defintely better as a plyaer and athlete in 96 than he was in 86. In 86 playoffs he sat out most of REG season with injury. In summer of 95 he trained his butt off and was at his best in 1995-96.
Celtics 100 times more talented than Bulls--LOL, whatever.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
How can you possibly think Jordan was more athletic in '96? Jordan was 32 years old during the '96 season and 22 during '86. People hit their peak in terms of athleticism during their early-mid 20's. That's like saying Vince Carter and Kobe Bryant RIGHT NOW are more athletic than they were 8-9 years ago.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
@raiderfan14943
yeah but he's more polished. smarter, better mid and long range game. physically more stronger and still in 96' would blow by any of the celtic gaurds. probably get them in plenty of foul trouble by posting them
Dkouts57 1 year ago
the suns underestimated the spurs athleticism .. they had manu a,tony parker , bruce bowen and duncan that will run and gun if they had to .. they were more versatile than the suns plus the backcourt clearly outmatched the suns backcourt ...parker is too quick for steve nash to guard ... that goes the for ginuboli who get beat any defender to the basket with footwork and speed
locksmith30076 2 years ago
U r a fucking idiot. Paul Pierce is not better than Scottie Pippen. We had the best player of all time. MICHAEL JORDAN. we had one of the best rebounders of all time. Dennis Rodman. SCOTTIE Pippen as a second scoring options. three first team NBA defenders. and a great supporting cast thet could shoot the ball. It took the Celtics 7 games to beat the fucking hawks. Its not even a close.
And LOL @ u even trying to argue this1
gocubs526 2 years ago 81
I didn't know Paul Pierce played for the ' 86 Celtics.
Fucking idiot.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
O shit that is why i thought you were so dumb. I thought you were talking about 07-08 Celtics. Bulls would still murder you guys. remember in 1986 playoff series game 2 when Jordan scored 63 points. He had the worst supporting cast ever. with Scottie Pippen and Rodman the bulls would win.
gocubs526 2 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
offensively paul pierce is a better player than scottie , footwork, post moves , plus a better shooter ..pierce defense is pretty underrated ..scottie got him beat on defense cause scottie is alot quicker with a longer arm reach .. both players put up the same amount of numbers in every category except steals where scottie when that department
locksmith30076 2 years ago
@gocubs526 paul pierce, best whiner of all time lol..
Fibilicious 1 year ago
@gocubs526 Paul Pierce doesn't even belong in the same gym as Scottie Pippen. In my opinion, Scottie Pippen was the best non-center defender in the history of the league. And, I don't think that's controversal to say... The man won 6 championships. 8 if you count his two gold medals. And to those of you that say that he won them because of Jordan... Well... Jordan never won one without Scottie Pippen.

@gocubs526
don't pay attention to noobs....ajajajajajaj...a comparison with anyone vs Jordan is a complete utterly and pointless waste of your time...grab a beer and let the young pup get more ashamed of his outstanding noobness...
superfestiva 1 year ago
@gocubs526 dude u dont need to be an asshole just bc u sit behind a screen. Scottie n pierce were both tremendous players, but I agree w that kid, Pierce IS a better player. For some reason, Pierce has never gotten the notoriety that a superstar like him deserves. Pierce, like pippen, is a terrific defender, and an even better scorer. Hes a great leader, better than scottie ever was. Granted, pippen was prob the best perimeter defender ever, but u look a lot better playin next to MJ
tikealpzyx 1 year ago
@tikealpzyx You can't compare Pierce's defense with Pippen's defense. Pippen absolutely oppressed the person he was guarding on a consistent basis. The defensive accolades and statistics between these two players don't even compare. Offence on the other hand is another arguement.
Secrectus 1 year ago

JZ2001JC 2 years ago
You're right. Teams in the 80's were not as athletic as teams in 1990-beyond, but they were better. Seriously, in the 80's you had 4 teams that are in the discussion in the top 10 teams all time. 1983 Sixers. 1986 Celtics. 1987 Lakers. & 1989 Pistons. Teams were better in the 80's than they were in the 90's and today's NBA.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Okay first of all those "Greatest top 10 teams" mentioned were all different season not just one season. 2---80s were top heavy, you had 1, 2, 3 teams as contednors then the rest were garbage. The 90s you had 5-6 Title caliber teams.
ANd again Those 80s teams (except for 89-90 Pistons) would not compete since 90s and beyond were stronger, quicker, faster, leaped higher and farther, etc. Athleticism and footwork was just purely better in 90s and beyond.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
i disagree ..the 80s didnt have much of a great defense as the 90s era .. plus many players in the 90s became capable of creating their own shot without relying on a superstar to draw double teams to get them open looks ..you had lakers and celtics going to the finals most the time beside the pistons the other teams that you mention werent that great
locksmith30076 2 years ago
What the fuck are you on about? Mark Aguire, Kevin McHale, Isaih thomas,Blackman, Nique, Mullin, porter, drexler, these are great individual players from the 80's. Do you think the nba was just created in the last 20 years. back then an elbow was not a foul unless there was blood. These guys went to war every night not like the nba today with those baby defensive rules. do some research before you start chatting shit on the internet. Mark Jackson, reggie lewis, KJ all 80's players motherfucker.
Klinickal 2 years ago
lol .. do my research before i start chatting ? please.. your comment is hilarious , elbow was a foul back then stop overexaggerating the past. many games have been recorded from the past and could see for yourself the defense isnt all that great in the 80s. espn classics , nba. tv and i been watching basketball since the late 80s.
locksmith30076 2 years ago

JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Please, Randy Brown only payed 7 MPG in the '96 playoffs.
And the Celtics beat a Bucks team who's point differential was +9 PPG.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Yeah and most of those minutes were closing out games by playing great Defense as him and STeve Kerr usually substituted offense for defense in late game situations.
So what about the Point DIfferiantial. The Magic won more games than the Bucks and did not have a bunch of drugies on their team.
Here is the ultimate topper: Tell me who won more games and lost the least games and had a better WInning PCT. between the 1995-96 Bulls and 85-86 Celts? And no BS biases in your answer, just ANS.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
The 1996 Bulls would not have won 70+ games if they played in the 80's.
"We could not have won 70 games playing against 1980's teams." - Dennis Rodman
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
AGAIN ANSWER MY QUESTION Which was who had a better W-L record overall and a better winning pct. overall between 1995-96 Bulls and 1985-86 Celts without your BS "1980s is so much better" crap. Its simple one word answer--1995-96 Bulls or 1985-86 Celtics.
And lol, now you are putting words into Dennis Rodman's mouth. Nice. And even though you are not from Boston you are obviously an ESPN guy since they butt-kiss all Boston teams. Let me guess are you a Patriots fan too?
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Bill Walton led the NBA in Defensive Rating in 1986. Walton was a solid defensive player. Don't judge a player by his looks (which I think you are doing).
AGAIN ANSWER MY QUESTION: Which team has an advantage in 4 of the 5 positions?
Look at the matchups, not the records.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Defensive Rating??? WHat the heck are you talking about? Another meaningless stat when scrubs such as Dave Corzine score easy on you.
No, You answer my question, you don't jack me around like that. Because regardless of your little 4 out of 5 crap question who has the best W-L and WIN PCT. with a ring in a single season in NBA History?????? My question is a fact, yours is an opinion.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Celtics have an advantage in 4 of the 5 positions. THAT"S A FACT.
Don't be a homer.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
How's that a fact, thats your opinion. You must work for ESPN since thats the home of Boston/NY Sports.
This is a fact: 1995-96 Bulls 72-10 (87-13 overall, .870 WIN PCT).
1985-86 Celtics 67-15 (82-18 Overall, .820 WIN PCT).
Now I know your a little slow so I will do this slow and easy for you. The WINS in the Bulls column are higher than the ones in the Celtics column, and the Losses in the Bulls column are lower than Celts column, and Bulls WIN PCT is higher.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
Why are you bringing up records? The team isn't better because they have a better record. THE NBA IS ALL ABOUT MATCHUPS. And the Bulls matchup badly vs the Celtics. Celtics have more firepower inside and a more talented team.
raiderfan14943 2 years ago
Wow are you that stupid that you can't answer a simple question. And as for as your opinion of the Celtics having the matchup advantage, well the only way it could be a proved fact if the two teams played each other. But as far as Best TEam in History you have to go by best W-L overall (PCT. as well) and that belongs to 1995-96 Bulls. So stop sucking on sour grapes. If a team next season wins it all and breaks our record then I will be a man and pas the torch to them. THATS SPORTSMANSHIP.
JZ2001JC 2 years ago
