Thank you for sharing this fascinating recording and photos. What label was this record? Was it an early Gramophone record? RCA? a 78rpm? I Also, I'm just curious how you found this record? Amazing!
It kind of sounds like they are recording in someone's garage while someone is continually sharpening a pencil in the background. But it is neat to hear Stravinsky conduct.
WOW! Terrific!! Thank you so much for posting!

It definitely SOUNDS like he was a terrible conductor. You can hear the bassoon in the begining being rushed. Its his solo...he chooses the tempo.

@violinchic520 Its his orchestra...he chooses who to rush.

@violinchic520 Stravinsky has been quoted saying that solo should be strictly in tempo.

@JRichardYoung The tempo marking in the score says tempo rubato ... seems a little counter intuitive.

@violinchic520 yeah he sounds terrible... go listen to someone who is good... maybe madonna or katy perry...

@pfbsn It's a 78rpm record set on Columbia records, french pressing.
"Also, I'm just curious how you found this record?" -> I have my ways ;)

The music sounds like its from an unrestored Kurosawa film, but at the same time, it produces a hypnotic effect of it's own.

I've heard that Stravinsky was a terrible conductor.
Soubds great to me though,( if the recording quality was better!)

interesting record
solo basson sounds here like trumpet con sordini, isn't it?
but conducted by composer...
