I am an Ocean Liner expert, and when I watched this video, I noticed that you put in details that were crucial to the point. I think you did an amazing job.
Totally enjoyed it. You should be proud of yourself.
Great job on this video, young lady. I've been fascinated by this subject since reading "Collision Course" way way back, even before I spent four years in the Coast Guard (in Mass..: ). Keep up the good work.
One point: The ship is named for a man and as such should be pronounced "An-DRAY-A Doria". Don't worry; nobody pronounces it properly...just a pet peeve of mine :)
The most significant naval disasters that COULD have been avoided! Most of these ships could still be afloat if only people would LEARN from previous disasters! But at least this disaster didn't have someone saying "we could get to point a faster if we just sped up a little'
@Gallop1234 That's not about random things. I've been reading about this ship since I first heard of it back in the late 80's early 90's, this isn't the first Liner lost where a lesson hasn't been learned.
Haha thanks I think? It was my first documentary i did for this contest... You should check out my cuban missile crisis one too... Its a lot better than this one. :D
Some day I will explore the Andrea Doria sometime but visit her in a sub because I read a book called Ghost Liners Exploring the World's Greatest Lost Ships and the Andrea Doria was one of the five ships that Robert D. Ballard visited the Andrea Doria and believes that visiting the Andrea Doria is very hard and there's too many shark there. One of my friend's dad was asked to explore the Andrea Doria, but he refused. The guy how toke my friend's dad placed died on the visit.
@CrazyMataNui510 ~ I think I read that the Doria has claimed more divers' loves than any other wreck, and I'm sure that more divers have died than passengers in the original collision. I'm not so sure about the sharks, but it's in a very dangerous position.
Gallop, you've done a VERY fine job, and you win my FIRST prize! I was six years old when this disaster happened, and I remember it as if it were yesterday. I can't tell you how much I admire your video.

Wow.. I know some people are jerks on youtube... :( Um... what choose me to do this topic was I had a ex friend who's uncle was a survivor of the Andrea Doria and it really interested me...
Titanic hit a iceberg in 1912, Britannia hit a mine and got torpeded, Olympic the last ship of sister ship to Titanic and Britannic got taken out of service in 1930 and made to spikes

Yup.... The boat was basically underwater on one side so the boats were underwater so they could not be launched so there were not enough lifeboats for all the passagers.

Well done Gallop1234. Always thought this ship was a great loss. It does bear striking similarity to the Empress of Ireland collision with the dutch collier Storstad.
An annoying passing thought is how the hell can these friggin ships keep colliding? Millions of miles of water and still these collisions.
i agree with u, speeddemon3. i mean like, there are probably more than 50,000 square miles of water on this earth, and these ships. these two ships, barely a blip on the earth's surface just happen to be at the same place at the same time. its just incredible.
its basically like the saying "being in the wrong place at the wrong time". i agree that of the entire miles of water in the ocean the boats just happen to run into each other. Great Idea!!!
its basically like the saying "being in the wrong place at the wrong time". i agree that of the entire miles of water in the ocean the boats just happen to run into each other. Great Idea!!!
you mean most of the victims were on C deck, but there were some that were on that level on a different part of the ship from the stockholm that survived as well. actually only one person died from drowning on the wreck. he was the only survivor in his family to survive a shipwreck as a kid so he deliberately allowed himself to go down with the andrea as had his family years before.
Hmmmm..... thats interesting I guess you learn something new every day! Also there was a girl names Linda Morgan who got thrown from her cabin which was where the 2 ships hit and ended up on the crushed bow of the Stockholm and some how survived.
i know on the empress of ireland someone was stuck on the 3rd deck and somehow when she violently rolled over, he managed to fly in mid air right through the gash right before she sealed on him than later got pulled over. while another one, swam for 16 miles in below 0 temperatures before getting to shore and walked up to a church door nearby.
OMG that is so cool!!! My best friend Emily's uncle was a survivor on the Andrea Doria the interview you hear in the video is him. What did you think of the video?
This video is my Nation History Day project from 2007 and it Won third place at states! My best friends uncle was on this ship and at one point of the video you hear him. I hope all viewers enjoy this video. There was lots of hard work going to this video!
Ahh... no I had both ships totals of deaths! I would prefer you no insult my project that took 6 months to complete since you don't have any of your own videos about the Andrea Doria! Thank You
you said "46 people died on andrea doria when the ships collided. most at sea deck." and i should be able to say something without you getting all over my hair and taking that as an insult.
Well... I am sorry I blew up in your face, but I can't understand why you are making negative comments about a video that is the 3rd best documentary in Massachusetts and took me 6 months to complete! What were your thoughts of my documentary?
Oh.... thats cool!!! So HAVE you ever gotten the chance to go down and see the Andrea Doria in the water? I haven't I was just wondering because you seem like the kind of person who would have gotten the chance to do that
i had tried to visit many underwater shipwrecks including the andrea dria, but than is aw how expensive those lessons are, so it is something i have to spend a while waiting for.
in the shallow areas of the st.lawrence river, there is a ship from the war of 1812, where over 100 american marines died near kingston when our canadian artillery fired on it, i take a canoe, and on clear days, can stills ee the hull of the wreck nearly 200 years later while still at the surface.
Well.... for my vacation I went to Hawaii and I saw the USS Arizona which you might like because there is a memorial built right over the ship so on a calm, clear day you can see inside the ship! It was so COOL!!!
you do know that in real life, the US government deliberately allowed the japanese to come into pearl harbour. they did it, for an excuse to go to war, and they put their army in the philipines south of japan to pressure japan. they knew the japanese were coming 4 days in advance but just left their ships there. and had the japanese commander killed them with a 3rd wave of airplanes as planned, the japanese would of taken the USA pacific coastline and conquered australia.
just like in ww1, the americans and british are possibly said to have deliberately allowed the lusitania to go ahead of mauritania which was her sister warship, so the germans would mistake lusitania for her sister and sink her. but in real life, the americans never went to war for the lusitania in the end. they went there, when seeing the germans were almost dead, and were going to try and get in before it wins, to try and gain more money and power off the war that had raged for years already.
My own country? I think not. I am not American, and besides, I wasn't referring to Americans in the present day, I was referring to the ones who deliberatley led the Japanese to Pearl Harbor and led the Germans to the Lusitania. (If all that is true, the British were also involved with the Lusitania) But those were just casualties of war. No cover-ups there. You don't have to get all defensive just because I said 'stupid americans' You are too proud.
i can see that moron or should i say ultradumbass. you just went and called me dumb, so i guess you called your own nation dumb as well if you are not satisfied by me. and i don't give a flying fuck what you know of lusitania. this video has nothing to do with it.
you're the one with the nickname ultradumbass you mother f***ker shut the f*** up, besides, my country is a lot better than your piece of crap country, america is a corrupt murder pit that is drying up, where's there's no freedom of speech, and I can post whatever I want about the Lusitania, and I just wish you died when she sank
what, he started it. i just said that if the americans lead the japanese to pearl harbor and led the germans to the lusitania, that they were stupid, he just was being an idiot
Great video! I had just turned 10 the the ship sunk and remember seeing the limited things they showed on the news. Thanks for taking me back!

hey, great work i think u did a great job shaun1912
shaun1912 3 years ago
Well done Gallop1234. Always thought this ship was a great loss. It does bear striking similarity to the Empress of Ireland collision with the dutch collier Storstad.
An annoying passing thought is how the hell can these friggin ships keep colliding? Millions of miles of water and still these collisions.
Anyway, well done!!

thanks I loved this video and they interview in the middle of it is my bff's uncle who is a survivor of the andrea doria
Gallop1234 3 years ago
i agree with u, speeddemon3. i mean like, there are probably more than 50,000 square miles of water on this earth, and these ships. these two ships, barely a blip on the earth's surface just happen to be at the same place at the same time. its just incredible.

its basically like the saying "being in the wrong place at the wrong time". i agree that of the entire miles of water in the ocean the boats just happen to run into each other. Great Idea!!!

very good job! stupid "watertight" compartments...never work
kougermasters 3 years ago
Yeah, well everyone on C deck drowned
Gallop1234 3 years ago
you mean most of the victims were on C deck, but there were some that were on that level on a different part of the ship from the stockholm that survived as well. actually only one person died from drowning on the wreck. he was the only survivor in his family to survive a shipwreck as a kid so he deliberately allowed himself to go down with the andrea as had his family years before.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
Hmmmm..... thats interesting I guess you learn something new every day! Also there was a girl names Linda Morgan who got thrown from her cabin which was where the 2 ships hit and ended up on the crushed bow of the Stockholm and some how survived.
Gallop1234 3 years ago
yea, she was on the andrea, than the ship scraped her room out and she fell on the deck of the stockholm while in her bed.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
I know isn't that wierd? I wonder how she managed to survive that?
Gallop1234 3 years ago
i know on the empress of ireland someone was stuck on the 3rd deck and somehow when she violently rolled over, he managed to fly in mid air right through the gash right before she sealed on him than later got pulled over. while another one, swam for 16 miles in below 0 temperatures before getting to shore and walked up to a church door nearby.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
thats strange
Gallop1234 3 years ago
It was really coooooool! she survived to! (my aunt)
Macermac300 3 years ago 2
Haha thanks. So how old is your grandmother? If it was not for the 11 hours it took to sink I don't so many people would have made it off the ship!
Gallop1234 3 years ago
My Great aunt was on the Andra Doria
Macermac300 3 years ago 2
OMG that is so cool!!! My best friend Emily's uncle was a survivor on the Andrea Doria the interview you hear in the video is him. What did you think of the video?
Gallop1234 3 years ago
Again, nice job. I like the interview.

This video is my Nation History Day project from 2007 and it Won third place at states! My best friends uncle was on this ship and at one point of the video you hear him. I hope all viewers enjoy this video. There was lots of hard work going to this video!
Please only post positive comments!
Thank You
Gallop1234 3 years ago
when you mentioned that 46 people died, you also forgot, that the stockholm as well killed. 5 crew members aboard the stockholm were as well killed.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
Ahh... no I had both ships totals of deaths! I would prefer you no insult my project that took 6 months to complete since you don't have any of your own videos about the Andrea Doria! Thank You
Gallop1234 3 years ago
you said "46 people died on andrea doria when the ships collided. most at sea deck." and i should be able to say something without you getting all over my hair and taking that as an insult.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
Well... I am sorry I blew up in your face, but I can't understand why you are making negative comments about a video that is the 3rd best documentary in Massachusetts and took me 6 months to complete! What were your thoughts of my documentary?
Gallop1234 3 years ago
it was alright. but i was telling you this extra information, in case you did not know about it.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
Oh.... thats cool!!! So HAVE you ever gotten the chance to go down and see the Andrea Doria in the water? I haven't I was just wondering because you seem like the kind of person who would have gotten the chance to do that
Gallop1234 3 years ago
i had tried to visit many underwater shipwrecks including the andrea dria, but than is aw how expensive those lessons are, so it is something i have to spend a while waiting for.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
So have you gotten the chance to see any shipwrecks up close and personal yet? Or is it just one of your goals to do?
Gallop1234 3 years ago
in the shallow areas of the st.lawrence river, there is a ship from the war of 1812, where over 100 american marines died near kingston when our canadian artillery fired on it, i take a canoe, and on clear days, can stills ee the hull of the wreck nearly 200 years later while still at the surface.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
Well.... for my vacation I went to Hawaii and I saw the USS Arizona which you might like because there is a memorial built right over the ship so on a calm, clear day you can see inside the ship! It was so COOL!!!
Gallop1234 3 years ago
you do know that in real life, the US government deliberately allowed the japanese to come into pearl harbour. they did it, for an excuse to go to war, and they put their army in the philipines south of japan to pressure japan. they knew the japanese were coming 4 days in advance but just left their ships there. and had the japanese commander killed them with a 3rd wave of airplanes as planned, the japanese would of taken the USA pacific coastline and conquered australia.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
Are You Serious Thats So Scary!
Gallop1234 3 years ago
just like in ww1, the americans and british are possibly said to have deliberately allowed the lusitania to go ahead of mauritania which was her sister warship, so the germans would mistake lusitania for her sister and sink her. but in real life, the americans never went to war for the lusitania in the end. they went there, when seeing the germans were almost dead, and were going to try and get in before it wins, to try and gain more money and power off the war that had raged for years already.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
stupid americans
kougermasters 3 years ago
great going moron. you called your own country stupid because i come from there. pat yourself on the back:)
ultradumbass 3 years ago
My own country? I think not. I am not American, and besides, I wasn't referring to Americans in the present day, I was referring to the ones who deliberatley led the Japanese to Pearl Harbor and led the Germans to the Lusitania. (If all that is true, the British were also involved with the Lusitania) But those were just casualties of war. No cover-ups there. You don't have to get all defensive just because I said 'stupid americans' You are too proud.
kougermasters 3 years ago
i can see that moron or should i say ultradumbass. you just went and called me dumb, so i guess you called your own nation dumb as well if you are not satisfied by me. and i don't give a flying fuck what you know of lusitania. this video has nothing to do with it.
ultradumbass 3 years ago
you're the one with the nickname ultradumbass you mother f***ker shut the f*** up, besides, my country is a lot better than your piece of crap country, america is a corrupt murder pit that is drying up, where's there's no freedom of speech, and I can post whatever I want about the Lusitania, and I just wish you died when she sank
kougermasters 3 years ago 3
oops! i meant username ultradumbass... and i meant, I wish you died ON the Lusitania when she sank
kougermasters 3 years ago 3
i agree with kougermasters, you suck ultradumbass
rachel01912 3 years ago
be a little bit nicer to ultradumbass, kougermasters. no offence, but he's right
LightStijn 3 years ago
what, he started it. i just said that if the americans lead the japanese to pearl harbor and led the germans to the lusitania, that they were stupid, he just was being an idiot
kougermasters 3 years ago 2
just both forget about it :D
LightStijn 3 years ago 3
what a stupid argument
