  • I love everthing about this pedal except the placement of the input/output jacks. that has to be the ugliest place anyone has ever though to put those. All you're cables cover up the prettiness of the pedal. The sound is amazing though, i'd immediatly buy one if i had the money and the oppertunity.

  • Your uni-vibe sounds very good. I love the depth. Too bad none of the clone pedals even come close to the original one.

  • Hello! I just have one question!

Were did you get that thing? where did you bought it? Because I would like to buy one. Thanks!

  • Wow that sounds like crap....

  • @mccraejeremy it's just the camera. if you want a professionally recorded version of the sound, listen to the songs "Have You Even Been (To Electric Ladyland)" and "Machine Gun". It's used more prominantly in the first one

  • I wish I still had mine.I purchased mine in 1973 for 79.95,lost the pedal some where along the way.Sold it in 2007 for 850.00 no pedal.Kids have to eat!

  • is that an orange 1X12 i see there???

  • Great to see a sister to the one that I have owned and enjoyed ever since buying it way back then in 73.´

Had it stored for decades and then brought it out a few years ago and had an expert check it for sakes.

Operates perfect. Mine is identical to Yours, xcept mine still has the small original foot-switch.

    Thanks for posting this :-)

  • Besides its "child" the Dunlop Uni-vibe, are there Uni-vibe models on the market that can be footpedal controlled?

  • @Muziekschuur01 yes, the dunlop Rotovibe

  • you should've played new rising sun man!!!

  • Whoa bro...sounds way groovy!

  • you should have played a few chords!

  • Sick sounds you can get out of that box

  • Do they still sell this at japan?

  • Yep. A real Univox Univibe can set you back a grand if you can find someone that wants to sell theirs.

  • i saw one on craigslist for $1750

  • wet and greasy

  • How much are those?

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1 like a grand

  • @SRV1DOORS1HENDRIX1 Thats the vintage one so it's probably a lot but the newer dunlop uni-vibe costs about $230 and sound about the same but it doesn't come with that foot pedal on the side. That costs an extra $70.

  • the original also has a distinctive whoosh pulse followed by a shadow pulse, like a doppler effect. like a car speeding by with a shock pulse followed by the trailing doppler sound.

Boy am I glad I got one of these. Didn't appreciate as much till I heard all the newer generations.

    very cool, thanx again

  • I have one of these. then I bought a Fulltone MDV2 and the difference to me is this one, the original, has more shimmer like oil floating on water. The fulltone one sounds more like one thick liquid, without that mercurial shimmer.

hard to describe. the cool thing is they are different sounding and both great.

thanx for posting this excellent demo!

  • Why did they stop making the old univox?

  • Decent don't get me wrong, but Uni-Vibes were touchy like Fuzzes for the "Magic Ones". Doesn't sound as wet as a Woodstock tone. Probably do a decent BOG.

That's where Fuller for example goes off the track. "Can't get more accurate than exact." Exact of what? They all varied and Roger Mayer mod'ed Jimi's from stock. I own a DV2 and it sounds much like this unit. Not like Woodstock, and can do a half ass BOG. Sweetsound is spot on BOG. Megavibe is pure Woodstock. Go by sound not schematics.

  • You should check out the MJM Sixties Vibe. I swear, dead-on Hendrix/Pink Floyd-like tones. I also agree of what you said about the Fulltone pedals. Better specs does not equal a better sound for YOU. It was amazing how dead on it was, because you kinda half-expect pedals and gear to not sound like it did in the old days, because for some reason, they "can't" make 'em like that anymore. Or can't make them SOUND like that rather, I should say. S'all about your ears and not what other people say.

  • @HighZombiesRule

No doubt, I'd love to hear a thorough test drive of MJMs univibe. Heard many good things about it. Unfortunately their website has some shitty clips of random chordal fucking around that don't really reveal the full performance of the pedal. Puzzles me why they don't get some decent clips up.

They should take a page from KRs book with their extensive Megavibe sound bits of Hendrix and Hendrixian playing. Just compare their pages and you will see what I mean instantly.

  • There's this guy named Andy of the Pro Guitar Shops website, and he does seriously excellent demos of more vintage sounding gear. He's more Jeff Beck than metal, which is nice, because it's pretty much psychedelic-sounding stuff that the Vibe is made for. Andy also demoes many of MJM's pedals, and other brands as well. Pro reviews. I'll check out the Megavibe, I love hearing these effects.

I kinda hate websites that don't feature clips of what a pedal basically does, a nuisance.

  • Just type in MJM Sixties VIbe in the Youtube search engine and you should find a Pro Guitar Shops demo of it within the first 5 search results. That review pretty much sold me on the pedal. I checked out the Megavibe on Sheetsofsound's review. It was nice, but not like the Sixties Vibe. It's amazing how different these pedals can sound generally even if they use photocells and everything. I like the throb of the Sixties Vibe more. It may be all the gear they use, but I like it.

  • Awesome sound and mint condition too!

I'm happy with my MojoVibe, but there's no doubt I'd love to have an original UniVibe at home :)

  • @ciclosonico

does the Mojo vibe has the same sound as the Ultra-Vibe

  • I don't know, I never tried an original UniVibe :(

  • @topicrass I owned a mojo vibe and I can say if you want to save yourself a hell of alot of dough, go with the mojo. I think it sounds just as good as the uni vibe. Sure has the machine gun sound in it

  • @wildvoodoochild1 And if you run the guitar into a simple splitter box, and then run to 2 amps; 1 with no effects. 1 w/the vibe in the back of the room you will see colors. haha. Instant Jimi. Coolest thing ever.

  • Did Richie Blackmore use this on Rainbow On Stage? 1977.

  • Click my user name and you'll hear a guy that played using this (UNI-VIBE at its best.

When I posted my vid's of "Moses" I didn't know what this box was called, (+ I'm a drummer and burned out :-)

But Moses took it apart for me one day and it had this blinking light in side of it, he said this is what gave it it's sound. Maybe an old style (model) of it (?) Guess these things are still made?

But Yeah this box is the shit if want your sound anything close to a Hendrix.

  • Now that's the real deal. NOTHING else sounds like this.

  • THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST PRODUCT ON THE MARKET TODAY NOTHING COMES CLOSE!!! I HOPE It CAN BE MADE IN CHINA AND SELL FOR $149.99 SUPER.

  • Ahhh THAT brought tears to my eyes! It's hard to believe, people try to recreate this sound when the shin-ei used it's own power transformer and electrolytic capacitors the size of your thumb! Let's hope for the best : )

  • Of course there's nothing like the original but there are a few good clones out there that give a pretty sweet approximation, if not dead-on copy of this amazing tone. MJM has a great one as does Prescription Electronics. I have the MJM. Of course I'd rather have this but there are some pluses to it.

  • how is the mjm. how do you compare it to like a deja? there are no videos of the mjm. you should do a demo.

  • The MJM is really good. I like it better than the Mini Deja-Vibe, which I had. The Deja-Vibe is the same as the mini except it has the foot controlled speed.

The MJM has a very pronounced throb, which some of the others were lacking, I felt. It has a lush chorus and a good vibrato channel. I have the older, bigger one. They changed the casing to a smaller more compact case.

  • thanks for your input man. juts ordered a sixties vibe a few days ago

  • is the pedal essential to get the tone?

  • yes just buy a fulltone mini deja vibe 2..the closest you'll get to that

  • i have a uni vibe . the pedal is necessary. as the the uni vibe dosnt have a signal by pass, the unit is always on. the pedal only regulates the speed. in other words, it wont work without it. on the other hand, its what makes the uni vibe the effect it is. it gives you the freedom to vary the speed at will, to acheve some fantastic sounds. i hope this helps. best regards. al.

  • Ah ok..I thought there was a pot for the speed and you could instead a pedal to control it with your foot... Did you open this pedal? I think it's just a pot.. I can make it easily if it is..

  • Are there any pedals you can get today that are close to this sound?? I need one

  • one of the best modzlation effects ever built.

warm, cheesy whatever. there is nothing sounds like this vibe

  • PLAY BREATHE!!!!!!

  • Aw c'mon bigfoot, put some shoes on next time!

  • i've got one. had it since the early seventies. i brought it from a guy who worked in the back of the big fender soundhouse on tottenham court road, (the one that burned down!) the uni vibe was great then and it is still great now.

  • Is that extreme compression on the guitar's part or is the audio quality just really poor? Either way, it's taking some of the beautiful clarity out of that gorgeous pedal's tone man

  • there´s some flashback sounds

    absolutely beautiful!

  • Man are you rich? ;-)

They are sold on ebay for 2500-3000$...I would give everything to own one!

  • Jesus, don't give EVERYTHING! Just $2500-$3000. Keep the change :)

  • ;-) 2500$ is much as well,

But I build the DIY project by John Hollis and it just produces the same great sound. (for only 40 bucks and a lot of fun)

Wobbling and Bubbling....This thing is GREAT!

  • Nothing else sounds like a real Shin-Ei uni vibe. They keep trying, no dice.

Put the Tone Machine in front of it. Fun stuff...! SwissschhhscreeeeEEE1

  • Since it's a Leslie SIMULATOR, mabe a real leslie would be better.

  • sounds a bit like an mxr phase 90

  • you mean the phase 90 sounds like this.

  • what a funny comment....

  • I wasn't being funny, I'm serious. Phasers are similiar to rotary effects and came out after the univibe did.

  • Yes, that's true. To me, as a player, it's pretty irrelevant which unit is mimicking which but you are correct and informative. And also, I guess they become their own animal anyway.

    All the best.

  • @stevusmaximus229 wrong the vibe pedals were first cause they all simulated Leslie Speakers after that came the phase sound cause some Vibe pedals sounded different compared to vibes some had a more transparent sound others had a watery deep sound like playing your guitar underwater hence was born PHASE PEDALS AND CHORUS PEDALS!!!! yay!!!

  • ~Nice sound...thanks for posting...~~

  • there's one pedal called Bold Vibe at saculelectronics, some demos of it at there.

  • Sounds awesome, can get VERY similar sounds out of my Fulltone Deja Vibe

  • Did they use the expression pedal since hendrix's time? Cause expression pedals for me were more recent.....

    ?

  • Sure, this is the speed pedal and it came with the uni-vibe. There was already a lot of pedals in that time, like the wah-wah, volume ... just that they were specialised, unlike today's expression pedals that can serve many functions.

  • Cool Demo. Those clicks in the audio are distracting from the experience.

  • hey man sounds great, i love the improvision, i was lookin at that pedal but couldnt find it can you let me know where you got yours?

  • And isthatan expression pedal? Did they use that back in the day? =]

  • Omg, how mch did you pay for this? I think it's better than the dunlop rotovibe, for sure.

  • obviously it's better... this it one that started it all, man. The rotovibe is based on this, as are almost all other vibe pedals. These go for up to $2500 these days for a mint example.
