Been eying this baby for a year or two now. I love the synth sounds it get on it's own with the oscillators, but I'm mostly excited about the audio in/out capabilities. I'd love to hear a drum machine or guitar run through this puppy. I'm getting aroused just thinking about it. Come on income tax!
I'm buying the Ti. I was looking @ the blofeld. I do like waldorfs sound its unique. But I think I will get both. Everywhere I've looked everyone says they are 2 very different machines. =)
any access synth is better than soft synth options i have the original virus and it shits all over any vst i have used in the past ,I would love a ti, you have made a great choise the only thing i found was the virus wasent quite subby enough for big subsonic basslines for this i use a 101 or a dave smith mopho best regards enjoy your snow....Ols
how many instances of the snow can you run at once, in your DAW?
also, how is its synthesis abilities. are the sounds in it samples from the polar ti, or does it have oscilators itself? if so how many , and how easy is it to make your own patches, as it only has a few nobs, or do you do it with the ti plug -in on your computer?
@hoodwink808 The Snow is only 4-part multitimbral so you get 4 instances in your DAW. That's the big minus of the Snow when you compare the desktop synth to its big brothers.
Synthesis abilities are simply amazing. Whether you like warm analogue or harsh digital sounds, the Snow delivers.
Hi everyone hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm Using Logic 8 and have heard there is a way of bouncing a virus track to audio using the bounce feature which can then give you pretty much unlimited polyphony! Does anyone know how to do it I've had a go but so far unable to figure it out. If anyone knows that would be awesome : )
Thanks PANDAPANDAMADNESS I got it sorted just the other day! I freakin love this machine it's so versatile it's going to take while before I stretch the limits : )
I've just bought a Virus snow. i'm running it with Ableton suit 8 and Novation SL. It's a Monster!!!! Quite versatile, intuitive and powerful.
Strongly recomended!!!
I as well studied the possibility of buying a blofeld but finnaly i found Virus better for my studio, it's more expensive but i think it worth its price.
as far as a snow goes, I've heard from a few people that the virus is just too thick...sometimes it can get a lil overwhelming, and this came from a rep, he said that a snow is quite up to the task of getting some super thick sounds out of....but aye, I've only briefly played with a Ti polar but not a snow, so I spose My oppinion means jack....
as far as running vsts compared too hardware, depending the specs of your comp but sooner or later depending how much processing you do and tracks your running in your DAW sooner later it will stress out your PC, so the way I see it, your better outsourcing your processing wheather that be VST instruments or effects and use a powercore box that does have a virus classic emulation. Or the instrument itself wheather that be a snow/biofeld/DSphrophet etc. DSP's process sound better than a PC CPU's
PCs don't get "stressed out". Hardware has the advantage of hands on control, but "stressing out" your computer is no reason to not use VSTs. Some of the modern VSTs are utterly amazing.
can anyone tell me how the plugin works? is it the plugin itself that woutes the audio into the track? If you want to sequence it where is the midi stored? do you need to also create a seperate instrument track? (pro tools)
I'll also say, that while this synth is nearly double what the equally awesome sounding Waldorf Blofeld sells for, its a very different beast altogether; a much more powerful option.
If I was just looking for a synth I would have probably picked the Blofeld. I was looking for a hybrid synth to use with Ableton and this was clearly the right choice.
100% regret free purchase. You get what you pay for.
Nothing sounds like a Virus! No vsti sounds that good. Play a pad sound on a virus.,. nothing beats it.
2nd, it costs $1,250... not cheap but If I'm going to spend $499 on a great VSTi (Spectrasonics Omnisphere comes to mind) thats going to run $99. Add a midi controller for $199-$399 and your getting close in $ to the Virus. I already have a Novation SL 25 but still. Really though, a Virus is a Virus. Nothing beats the sound, at least to my ears.
@tjs6025 so what your saying you would of gotten the blofeld instead or this or you got the virus snow. Cause I am thinking of getting this synth in the summer, Around july.
@atabeylive You can snag a Blofeld for about $450 used. You can snag a Blofeld keyboard for about $850-$950 used. For the money, I think the Blofeld sounds amazing. I like the Snow but it's a pricy synth. The integration within a DAW such as Ableton Live is why I bought it. The Blofeld doesn;t have such smooth integration in Ableton Live; meaning you can't use it as a VSTi within Ableton like you can with the Snow
I love the Snow; I find myself paying the Blofeld just as much though
@tjs6025 thats what I thought so because the reason I want to get the snow is because of the intergration it has for ableton, and the blofeld does not so might as well go for the snow just that I am going to be 990 euros less in my pocket. even though I found it in an online store where I got my genelect for 922 because it was a return from a client. One question is this synth headache from from technical electronic components because I do not want to shell 900 bucks for something that is probl
My opinion? I love it. From what I was told, I was one of the first 10 people to own the synth in USA so I have been able to spend quite a bit of time with it.
I use the Snow with Ableton Live as a vsti via the total integration, or ti. If you produce using a computer, preferably a notebook, want to be mobile and are looking to incorporate a hardware synth, I can't think of a better choice.
Sound is amazing. Using it with a computer/ti saves you a lot of menu diving programing it standalone
@TjugoGotoTio does the audio go down the usb to the computer as well as midi info etc. i thought you would have to get the audio into your pc via an audio interface.
ie, out the back of the snow and into your audio interface. or is the snow an audio interface too, like the virus ti?

"Overview"? ummm. . .you must mean the camera shot. I thought you were going to describe it.

Does it have aftertouch? I mean if you have a midi-keyboard with aftertouch, is the aftertouch compatible with this machine? :)

Of course you can do it. It's called freezing. You also save the midi and the patch when doing it.

Blofeld it's not bad, but has some bugs in the firmware which Waldorf had not fixed yet. This is something everybody should know.

if you had more money will go and buy the Virus Polar ,or stick with the snow , and buy something else with the rest of the money..

Wrong Pcs do get stressed out when they are not powerful enough to run enough instances of a vst like Nexus for example.
So to run Nexus I need to buy a new pc costing over £500.
I may as well keep my existing pc and buy a Virus...
glennmusictech 2 years ago 4
@glennmusictech Nexus is not a SYNTH .... Its a Rompler .
DefectedSalvations 8 hours ago
4 part multitimbral sucks though, they could keep 16 any day.
If I would get a Virus, I'd buy The desktop version anyway, 500€ more but 4x better machine.
Will always love Virus sound, and Blofeld isn't bad either.

I bought this recently.
Its very sturdy and the sound is awesome. The TI which allow you to stream the audio to the computer via USB rocks! I love it.
Cons:
The manual sucks..
I sometimes feel abit limited by the 4 part multitimbral
