Just now getting into Ledisi. I know I'm way late. But better late than never. I liked hearing her do this, so many wonderful little nuances to her voice. But I'm sorry, I just can't do the glossy, mega churches....just something about them. But glad I was able to look past that and enjoy Ledisi.

Don't get me wrong, I've been to some very big churches and felt the presence of God. @420rules420 Because they feel like mini-corporations. I feel that a church needs to be on the community/neighborhood level. The church I grew up in had 100 core members. When somebody died, married, graduate from high school/college, even bought a new house, the pastor actually knew about it.

@IamKINDRED I totally disagree with your post. Getting caught up in her what she is wearing and if she sings gospel or if she sings jazz, if she is saved or not is soooo wrong in my opinion. I feel perfectly fine giving her props for her wonderful gift for her being willing to be used by God to deliver such a powerful song.

However, I am glad that you see thing the right way... may way LOL!!! You know I'm just messing with you. So glad you enjoyed her gift as much as I did. I too have been supporting Ledisi for years. I have the Orange is the Color Cd where she does a lot of jazz standard covers and it is awesome. You be blessed.

@IamKINDRED some folks so deep, you're drowing. Ledisi has a wonderful God given talent. And yes I thank God that I am able to listen to her sing this song and anything else that she sings and be blessed by her talent. It is a given for me that I am blessed by the message. But I think God is okay with us being in awe of the roses, the mountains, the oceans, beautiful art and Ledisi's beautiful voice.

We as "Church Folk" are so quick to judge people an not know their story, or judge them on how they make a living. I wish we could be a little more accepting. Just now getting into Ledisi. I know I'm way late. But better late than never. I liked hearing her do this, so many wonderful little nuances to her voice. But I'm sorry, I just can't do the glossy, mega churches....just something about them. But glad I was able to look past that and enjoy Ledisi.

@420rules420 That's a good question. I guess I'm not really drawn to them. I feel like there's way too much "production" and "gloss". Feels somewhat like a show. Don't get me wrong, I've been to some very big churches and felt the presence of God. But I don't really get into churches where "celebrity" is involved...be it the pastor or special guests, because I feel like black churches in particular are so "star" struck that there's very little room for Jesus....in my opinion.

That's one of the reasons foreclosures ran rampant in many Black neighborhoods because these same "celebrity" pastors with their McMansions, Mazeratti's, boats and all these worldly possessions hoodwinked entire congregations into over-extending themselves. I love Ledisi that's why I'm watching this video; however, the line between celebrity-worship and God-worship is continually being blurred. That concerns me deeply.

@420rules420 Because they feel like mini-corporations. I feel that a church needs to be on the community/neighborhood level. The church I grew up in had 100 core members. When somebody died, married, graduate from high school/college, even bought a new house, the pastor actually knew about it.
What a lot of people fail to realize is that church growth isn't only about expanding membership. It's also about expanding the hearts and minds of the members already there.

I love this rendition so much as I know the song is coming from her heart. Ledisi knows god for herself and it shows. She's been through some stuff in her life (check out her soulsinger album where she lets us know about being molested by her father)...And she's knows god has brought her through...

@27ade God is Awesome... The word "SECULAR". I've heard several of Ledisi's songs and none of them have lyrics that SEPERATE her love for GOD. Maybe you should listen to an artist 1st before you label them as being "SECULAR". I don't know Ledisi personally BUT I do know that she proclaims JESUS CHRIST has her personal SAVIOR. context of 1 cor 2:15 is juding spiritual from the natural this is different from judging whether its safe to put a rapist with young girls. Thats exercising WISDOM.
Matt 7 v1-5 we are taught by Jesus not to judge our fellow man.
I saw Ledisi in concert a few weeks ago, and have to say, she TAUGHT us, and took us to church. I came away with a renewed relationship with God through her letting her light shine. Only God knows her heart.
