  • This makes me want to run in fields of tall grass to visit different cities.

  • can anybody please tell me where to find these fabulous images?!?!? thanks

  • ...Musica che spinge la memoria ancestrale a ricordare la perduta Età dell'Oro, che più volte, nel corso della sua immensa Storia, l'Umanità ha abbracciato e perso...

  • @rlzga

I would humbly add James Horner for Willow and Braveheart at least! :-)

  • Ennio Morricone - Basil Poledouris

    (Masters)

    You can not compare

  • ennio can suck Basils...

  • i just saw the trailer for the new CONAN. it's a shame. as a cure, i will raise up the volume and play poledouris all night... 'till the neighours come over!

  • Every night I sleep to Conan the Barbarian's soundtrack and it feels like a sweet whispers when turned down low.

  • RIP Basile !!!

  • Friends of mine used this as the bridal waltz some years ago..perfect 3/4 rhythm

  • @wolfsige That had to be a great wedding thanks to this music! You just gave me a great idea!

  • @PsychoGemini excellent...all done in costume too..admittedly from various periods

  • @Lasstreffenduopfer Yeah, but John Williams is so camp. This guy is way better than Williams. Just discovered Basil Poledouris and I think he's amazing

  • saved!

  • @Lasstreffenduopfer You know I was about to say that - he does does reach me on the same wavelength as Wagner and a bit of Holst in a modern way, if that makes any sense :)

  • ...Crom !!

  • I can lose myself to an age Heroic and long gone with all that Oboe, Timpani and Chimes!

  • Where can I find the images you used in most of the video? they look like paintings, and I'd like to find them. thanks in advance.

  • @toquio3 i don't know the specific titles of all those but i recognize some of the artists: 0:01 by Albert Moore, 0:10 Lawrence Alma-Tadema 0:19 Albert Bierstadt Yellowstone Falls, 0:28 Arthur Hacker, 1:12 John William Waterhouse's Narcissus (my favorite), from 1:21 to 2:02 i believe again several by Alma-Tadema, 2:23 'pollice verso' by Jean Leon Gerome, 2:33 Frank Dicksee, 2:49 Alma-Tadema, 3:07 Edmund Blair Leighton. seen a bunch but not all at museums.

  • @toquio3 correction: 1:21 and 1:21 i can't remember the artist's name, but from 1:38-2:02 it's Alma-Tadema for sure. either way, get a decent book on Victorian painting, the Pre-Raphaelites etc, those are the first fantasy artists in the modern sense and they're a lot better than most of our present day fantasy artists. to be fair, most artists back then were crappy too and the ones we know now are just the cream of the crop, but the best of the past or more skilled than the best of today.

  • @Lasstreffenduopfer Uh, that might be overstating it a bit, don't you think?

  • The best soundtrack ever been made. I love the movie. It is art, with a very good Arnold Schwarzenegger, cool setting, and of course, very great music. A masterpiece!

  • Civilization.... ancient and wicked.

Have you ever seen such a thing before?

    No... Let's waste some time!

  • Listening to this while doing my papers makes me feel like some sage-scribe jotting down ancient wisdom

  • this is great, but I wish the live orchestral arragments were still available on youtube

  • Crom laughs at the four dislikers. He laughs from his mountain.

  • Four people didnt like this music?? WTF!!! To quote a comment I saw earlier ,"If you dont like this soundtrack, THEN THE HELL WITH YOU!!!!

  • @TheDreamking21 You can say that again.

I just don't understand that someone might not like this.

  • simply stuning i cant stop listing the music so intoxacating

  • Who are the artists who painted all of these pictures ?

  • Beautifull choice of paintings for an ultimate musical masterpiece. Would like to see your video for The leaving/ The search part. If i dont make it before. :)

  • I would've called this track " friendship of wanderers" due to it's use when Conan is rescued from the tree of woe by Subotai.

  • @vikasbhardwaj007 hehe to me this theme will always be "the Subotai theme"

  • This is a masterpiece. The music sounds and only a word comes to my mind...

    CIVILITATION!

  • Have anybody some information about the pictures? I'm only know the one at 1:13 :

John William Waterhouse - Hylas and the Nymphs

    btw great vid

  • @SladeSF2 Edward Poynter "Visit of queen Sheeba to king Solomon" 1:30

    Edmund Blair Leighton-"godspeed" 0:47

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "The finding of Moses" 1:38

    Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "Sappho" 1:47

    Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "Expectations" 1:56

guy with the bears at 2:05 is probably some modern illustrator (frazetta, howe, royo or someone else)

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "The favourite poet" 2:14

    Jean-Léon Gérôme "Pollice verso" 2:22

frank bernard dicksee " La belle dame sans merci" 2:31

  • @SladeSF2 Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "comparisons" 0:11

Sir Frank Bernard Dicksee "Miranda" 0:37

Chris Collingwood "Morituri Te Saluttant" 0:55

Edwin Long "The Babylonian Marriage Market" 1:20

Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "Vintage fest" 2:39 Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema "Pleading" 2:48

Edmund Blair Leighton "The Accolade" 3:06

As for the first painting, i am not sure which one is it, but i am almost certain its Victorian, like most of others in this video. Cheers.

  • @nyalarhotep thank you kind sir, for listing the paintings. thou art most knowledgable

  • @SeaOfUncertainty Thou art most welcome, sir.

  • civilization..ancient and wicked....i love this piece..it provides an escape as i too run off into the wilderness sword in hand and subotai at my side..and a big fucking 357 at my side too and now that im at it a fine bitch with her own sword at my side..matter of fact the governator at my side too..were all running and laughing our way into the wilderness fuck it.

  • A terrific melody!

  • It's always interested me how Polidoris created all the Conan music with such a relatively small orchestra, not the usual epic-movie giant symphony. Sometimes it almost sounds like a small college band at a football game. Very proper for Conan the Barbarian, the thinking man's epic.

  • One of my favourites.

  • Part_2

Of scholars, Poets, Cults, and beasts that made the World magnificent, beautiful, and terrifying to behold! A world of untainted beauty and freedom, where anything was possible in it all! When the world was unkown and sailors believed the world to be flat.

  • (I have since worked on this poem of mine, enjoy) Part_1 It's Of a time forgotten and gone, now turned to dust and ash. A time for which I long and moan for, for it is part of me and since ye is dead, so is a part of me. Oh please come back to me, bring back you're times of wonder, adventure, magic and excitement.

  • @Mirdala Your poem is wonderful!! Please keep writing!!

  • @Grepple1234 Wow, really? Well, since I didn't get any replies, no message's and NO THUMPS UP, I thought no one cared for, and didin't think my poem to be anything special. You're comment is very much APPRECIATED, and I would like to thank the two people who gave me the 2 thumps up!

  • From where do you have the pics?

  • Crom laughs at your Four Winds

  • Love Poledouris..now I just want to know where can I get those separate images?

  • que grande Basil Poledouris

  • nice image selection!

  • this melody brings back a lot of wonderful memories...

  • Beautiful...

    Simply beautiful...

  • I have the sound track to Conan the Barbarian and Conan the Destroyer, I love listening to those two CDs more than the Lord of the Rings, Legend, Labyrinth, the Company of Wolves.... Actually, more than any of my movie soundtracks.

  • Company of Woves?!! Sounds toothy, whats that like?

  • <3 Basil - such a wonderful song. RIP

  • Does Soloman Kane know of any of these? Does he know that he too is a king in a way?

  • Each great king rises from obscurity only to pass back into it. Conan knows nothing of Kull, and Cormac knows nothing of either Conan or Kull. ...

  • great, normalnie bajka

  • Interesting enough, ppl like this movie , not Britney Spears. (@kallemick)

Mate, if u like the music, go buy it, dont wait to be on your version of game, lol

  • is this from the game or movie?

  • Movie. Most of the game's music is from the movie btw.

  • okay so this is in the PS3 game too?

  • Don't know, I was referring to the PC/PS2/GC Conan game.

  • oh okay damn itsbecause im considering getting the ps3 game and i really like this music so i hoped it would be in it

  • God will ask you about your prayers in Crom's name. Did you even read Robert Howard's books? Conan didnt even care about Crom. So how do you pray in his name now?

  • Suffer no guilt...Ye, who wields this sword in the name of CROM!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • CROM!!!!!!

  • This is an incredibly beautiful divine music. Basil Poledouris shall remain in our hearts forever !

  • great video but this needs to be in hq

  • Nice interpretation. Thank you for posting!

  • suffer no guilt...ye who wields this in the name of Crom!!!

  • beautyfull !!!

  • great vid !

  • What a lovely video!!!!!!

  • Thank you !!

  • i think hans zimmer borrowed a few measures from this one. cant say i blame him./

  • Has anyone hear ever heard of "The riddle of steel"?

  • just relax and let basil take you away.

  • Great accompanyment when I read the Conan Storys by Robert E Howard

  • Anyone know the name of painting at 0:28 - 0:34?

  • Even the movie critics who hated the film loved Poledouris emotive beautiful score, and to think Dino De Laurentiis wanted to use pop music instead!

  • Heh, yeah it was either pop or even a disco-esque score!

Glad Dino didn't get his way on that one.

To be fair though the film had little or no chance of even being made without Dino's help, as no other studio would touch the materials violent nature.

  • what instruments are they using at 0:15??

The instruments are so simple yet so beautiful. I mean in the beginning they don't have any orchestras or anything.

  • Clarinet, oboe, bassoon. Possibly some flute.

  • Thank you. I was also wondering what instruments could be. :)

  • Yes I thank you as well, because you see I'm not really good at orchestral instruments. I didn't even know what a bassoon or Oboe was until I looked it up.

  • Greatest theme ever.

  • very nice melody:-)

  • 0:33 is a great picture, wouldn't mind that on the wall

  • Just lay down in a meadow with a cool breeze and listen to this music.....

  • Thankyou Basil! You're the best, seriously.

  • watch?v=QGMfxsz6lYc&NR=1

    watch?v=Quj_ChDa1ZY&feature=channel_page

Such chanting was Poledouris' major infuence as he himself said, but few know it. Makes your heart melt with its dignity, its lyrics and its serene power friends. We need music that changes our day, and day after day our whole life. Peace.

  • alguien tiene idea y querria compatir conmigo la ubicacion de tan bellisimas fotografias :D

  • Poledouris is very underrated!

  • Simply amazing, i think this is the best piece of soundtrack ever created =)

Poledouris was pure genius, may he rest in peace =)

  • gotta east meets west sound. love conan the barbarian! love basil poledouris!

  • AERYAN !!!!!!

  • basilis poledouris !!! the music is fron conan the barbarian !! basili take care up there and create more music for the angels at heaven :)))

  • to bad that basil died he was my beethoven!!!!!

  • Nice marriage (not of figaro) but of Basil Poledouris' beautiful music and the beautiful art.

  • Sweet melody. ;)

  • Wonderful art on these vids I like

  • Yes... break the chains...freedom. No more C. Jung, no more Freud , no more sin ... just courage and , love and adventure. :)

  • The art at 1.40 - do you have the name for it and or the artist? Looks like Cleopatra on parade.

  • hi, the artist at 1.40 is Lawrence Alma Tadema and the painting is called "the finding of Moses" check out the rest of his work..Fantastic! ;)

  • @BADAWYY

Well said. Thank you for posting this video. It is fine work.

  • This is like a dream of blasting the chains of society and endless freedom

  • this melody sound liked a 14th century European music

  • So should it be. I love this theme since i heard it the first time - as a child.

  • You are right Morrinck. May the Ancient Gods be with you, pagan brother.

  • BTW... I dont think that pagans called themselfes "pagans". In their eyes they were BELIEVERS in their own gods.

  • The song is a great hymn to the free Pagan soul! May we one day ride the open steppe with wind in our hair, no more weak abrahamitic Gods to worship only the strenght and beauty of Mother Nature! By Crom!

  • Dear morrink, I will disappoint you a litte my friend, but Poledouris himself stated that his major influence was the Byzantine Orthodox chanting.

However, that does not mean that an artist's heart lacks the ability to decode emotional input from our rich world. I hope the same applies to yours mate. It's great to ride on the open, I tried it once and will never foget it...

    All the best.

  • Ok brother I understand, but a lot of traditional christians admired and were inspired by the Old Gods and the Era of Glory and Honour (the heathen time in Europe). Tolkien was one great hero to Europe who really embraced the pagan influences in his masterpieces.

  • He was fond of the norse sagas, but he was also influenced by Christianity in his writing. And he was a devout Catholic.

  • Orthodox he was... :)

  • Tolkien? Nope. Like I said, he was Catholic. Look up a biography, or, if you don't have the time, his Wikipedia entry.

  • I meant Poledouris mate, sorry. Yes, Tolkien was a Catholic...:)

  • Tolkien was a Catholic...and Poledouris was Greek Orthodox...how is that even close to being Pagan?

  • For the last time, yes I know they were Christians! But they were deeply inspired by heathendom and the old Gods. Tolkien was an expert in Nordic and Germanic paganism and mythology. Must of the characters in his works are from Nordic tales.

  • Ah, well that's true. Mythology is one of my favorite subjects to research as all their tales are so creatively woven. Since I'm not a pagan, it's just interesting how they came up with their beliefs and tales.

  • "alex jones and david icke interview" .... cnp this , pretty informal stuff

  • crom is pleased, great work my friend

  • your videos are beautiful man keep it up , its nice to meet minds that think alike

  • A time long since pasted, a time I yearn for. A time of complete freedom and adventure.

  • To coin an Arnie Schwarzenegger phrase the guy in the knight outfit at 2.30 look a little "LIKE A GIRLY MAN!"

  • Anyone know who did the painting at 2:30? (the one with the knight who has his arms T-shaped). I'm really interested in it. Wonderful Video also. :)

  • I dont know but he looks like a girly man to me.

  • The Painting is called "La Belle Dames Sans Merci" (after the poem by Keats), painted by Sir Frank Dicksee, one of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. I believe it is available as a fine art print

  • karlhael; see comment at top regarding painting

  • I feel fine, when listen this the beautiful song. Thank you :)

  • There´s no other song that gets me pumped up like this one! I feel so adventurus :)

  • Thanks. Riddle of steel coming soon. :)

  • wen!

  • BADAWYY, please if you have more paintings with more of Basil's peices I for one would love to see them.

    And hear: )

  • I am thiunking right now of making a video with Riddle of steel . Currently I am thinking how to express my feelings with adequate images.

  • A very good idea of course. But, may I FIRST reccomend..The Search. Focusing primarily on images of Conan, Arthur, some unnamed knights, barbarian warriors-maybe even Elric-all ridding on horseback. Perhaps find as many as you can that give the mounted warrior a sorrowful look on his face?

At any rate, I am certain whatever you choose will be fantastic ;)

  • This video is lovely...the images truly depict the beauty and fierceness that the ancient and medieval times held simultaneously. The music fits so well with the slide show. Well done!

  • Great job!!!

     I love it.

  • Nice work!

  • This is really a great video:)

  • Thank you all . I am glad I could offer you something you like.

  • Superb!

Great music and cool knight paintings. Stregnth&Honor

  • Increible,yega al alma

  • se escribe llega

  • pero lo entendiste, hay esta la clave

  • Excellent choice of artwork, it fits this great theme perfectly, good job + 5 stars!

  • Hard to believe this beautiful music comes from such a violent movie-but who`s complaining.I would love to hear that very medieval sounding number the band is playing at the inn-the scene after the raid on the Tower of Doom after they steal the Eye of the Serpent.

  • Saddle a horse, take a sword or a quiver....ride the open plains....relate back back to a time of wonderment and fantasy. Excellent video and visual presentation, my thanks for this momentary step into another world.

  • all people go to "age of conan hyborian adventures" a MMO game..its fantastik to see and feel the continent !!

  • Not only the music but also the images...Can any one tell about the artist who painted the pictures? some romantic from the last century?

    Thanks!

  • T'is my favourite music of all time, by Crom! And azhathzel89 is spot on!

  • music overload. great music

    greetings from norway!

  • the afterlife, i think, is whatever you want it to be. Every man should be able to choose his own god, in his own time, in his own way. personally, i trust an imperfect god who wields a good length of steel over a "perfect" god, any day.

    Beautiful artwork also.

    thanks for posting this video.

  • @LordTaylorK

That is my belief, too. I am a Unitarian Universalis.

  • azthazel is compleatly right, this song embodies high adventure. it makes you want to trek to distant lands with loyal companions beside you and destiny, fortune, glory and adventure ahead of you.

As for the religious Aspect, I believe in God. But i don't worship him. My God Is Surl. And Jesus can try to throw me into hell, but, if Surl is kind, He And his brother Scorn will Fight on my behalf, and Take me to the Paradise of my choosing. Mine will be The one i have just described, earlier.

  • Thank you. Wonderfull !! Your discussions are like in the movie. This is truly a THEOLOGY/CIVILIZATION topic . :) I almost imagine you sitting by the fire and talk about your beliefs. :)

  • this music is otherworldly!

  • This theme is an timeless epic masterpiece!

  • All religion topics aside, this song always makes want to run over fields with the wind in my hair, watch unknown landscapes unfold before my eyes. There is probably no better piece of music for adventure.

Roam free, and let others roam as well.

  • Wasn't the music they played when Conan the the Asiatic archer were running about in the steppes?

  • You mean when Conan was running around with Subotai, the Hyrkanian thief & archer? Yeah, the music is from that scene.

  • And was once more played as Subotai rescue Conan beeing bounded on the Tree. It was also a great scene, where i become goose-skin :-))

  • The only thing that may need an explanation is: those who died without know the gospel will be judge by God according the way they lived. Man know what is good and what is bad. Throughout the human history civilizations rise and fall, but do the right thing, not kill, not commit adultery, not steal etc were acknowledged by them as the "right thing". This is the law in the human heart; However, it does not apply for those who heard about the gospel of Lord Jesus. We don't have an excuse...

  • ok, yea we are programmed to know whats good and bad, although some have a flaw in their programming, wonder what will happen to them... i mean... god made them that way, didnt he?

  • Did Him? :)

  • euh... people with clear definable defects in the brain who have no control of their own behavior

...unless you dont believe they were made by god of course

  • oh ok, I thought you were talking about people who claims to be sodomites or murder or pedophile or anything like that supposedly because God made them this "way".

you know, I just realized that you are not looking for a real answer, you are just want me to say something "offensive".

    Here is your answer anyway:

    Isaiah 35:8

  • ow ok, you didnt know what i mean

...nope, not tryin to provoke anyone... if you feel then thats says something about you and not about me

(still havent given me the answer though, i was really wondering... oh well, cheers)

  • hey, no hard feelings. You may be right about that revealing something about me, but you reveal something before. The answer is that those who do have disabilities that prevent them to think clearly (such as brain paralysis, but not only that) will not miss the way. That's what Isaiah 35:8 is about. Isaiah is the most messianic prophet not by chance :)

As a final thought I would say:

While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts

    Clock is ticking...
