  • I swear, I have to spend 3-5 minutes locking up my bike, and even then I know there is a possibility that it or it's parts will be stolen. I can't leave it anywhere for more than a few hours. And our city is considered bike-friendly! Man, to live in Japan...

  • I almost want to move there to live someplace where you can just have a wheel chain and your whole bike is there when you come back.

  • Oh no it's not for renting it's parking...my bad.

  • Is this recent? i remember looking for it back then (2007/2008 probably)..now i know!

  • what i want to know is what isn't cool in japan lol

  • Saw something similar while visiting London. It's a great idea but only if it's affordable. I guess it was more than just a pound but I'm not sure ...

  • @CruzzioXT Aah, that's actually not for renting bikes but for parking ... sorry but I'm tired ...

  • @CruzzioXT In Montreal, you can actually rent the bike at parking place like that. While you can't park your own bike, there is plenty of free parking near subway station and park that you can use with your own lock.

  • @newtubetubetube yeah i live real close to montreal and thats the thing i hate it here all the crime pollution the gangs although they are some nice people most people are assholes and the place is a dump(qquebec) once you hit a pothole and passed the signthat said welcome to quebec you left canada. thats why i wanna move to japan the mentality there is so much better but ive already adopted the culture and language here and i know everything about it and japaneese looks so hard to learn.

  • @JamesonLB When you break your teeth in Japan with that misplaced pride, please don't return the the dump you call Quebec. Arrogant douche bag are not welcome.

  • @newtubetubetube what are you talking about i said i hate it here in montreal, quebec, canada not japan i said i wanted to go there the people look so nice and welcoming and i love the mentality i geuss i can put eveyrone in the same basket.

  • so why don't we put it in anywhere ? because in japan don't have a thief ?

  • this makes leaving your bike somewhere so much easier

  • have you seen any of those that someone has unbolted the front wheel and take the rest of the bike?

  • @Refrax559

Watch my "stealing stuff" video in the crime playlist.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom that video makes me want to move to japan to get away from theft.

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom so why don't just put it anywhere ? because in japan don't have a thief ?

  • @TheJapanChannelDcom @TheJapanChannelDcom so why don't we put it in anywhere ? because in japan don't have a thief ?

  • If you dont lock it some japanese will take it?

  • Awesome.

  • I see a lot of bicycles and those racks are really neat! Another reason why Japanese people are usually healthy and fit!!

  • When I was in Tokyo, I guess it was on Aoyama Doori, I saw these guys giving fines to bikes that were parked in the wrong place or someting, which was a bit interesting.

  • yep. seems like they can get towed as well. got to be careful.

  • There is also a underground parking system for bikes in Japan. not sure if it is Tokyo only.

  • thank you sooooo much!!

i just got home from my first trip to japan and your videos have helped me SO MUCH.

    especially your how to videos

    thankss

    :D

  • You are welcome.. more coming!

  • 1 dollar a day? wouldn't a bike lock be cheaper?

  • It is like a parking meter for cars... it isn't as much about locking it as it is about keeping that space for it all day.

(I have now changed the title as it was confusing maybe)

  • ok ur videos are kinda cool. i have to subscribe

  • Thanks!

  • Most Australian cities offer free bicycle parking but you do need to bring your own chain. I guess in Japan they don't won't extra competition against their huge car industry.

  • Actually, they encourage bicycles and discourage cars.

Just one example is that they have bicycle parking at train stations but don't have car parking.

So people ride their bicycles to the station.

  • They have something like this in Oslo...

  • It's a dollar for the WHOLE DAY?? DAYUM.

  • ummm i heard that there is discrimination in japan like foreigners can't go to some bars or restraunts and stuff like that.... is that true?

  • There is some discrimination but not as obvious as that.

Many landlords wont rent to foreigners.. that sort of thing.

Most of it is caused by foreigners coming here and behaving badly.

  • In Australia they want a system like this for the major cities, but it is almost impossible due to thievery of the bikes and helmets, i envy the politeness and respect of the Japanese.

  • Yeah cobber, that is one of the main reasons I don't live in Oz any more.. too many selfish, greedy people with no honour who are always looking for a chance to steal from people.

You are right about the politeness and respect here.

RESPECT is a big reason Japanese people don't even think of stealing.. respect for themselves and respect for others.

    You would love it here!

  • they could easily unscrew the front axis from the wheel and steal the rest of the bike

criminals are lazy there, and that's a great thing ! :))

  • I am going to make a video on Japanese people's thinking on crime (or lack of) in Japan.

    Stay tuned.

  • have u see any crimes lately i think u should make a vid on crime

  • Do you have any plans to make a video of a Japanese gaming center?

  • Now that's something tha would be sweet! I bet there are tons, too.

Hmm, either a gaming centre or anime shop would be awesome.

  • Do you mean Pachinko?

  • Arcade games, but I see you've already done one. :P

  • Why does Japan have to be so awesome?! I want to move there already, dammit <_<

  • how does this work?

  • stick your bike in a spare space and walk away..

when you come back, enter the number and insert the money indicated as owing..

    remove the bike..

    ride away singing happily..

  • ok that makes sence.

  • but cant you just enter any number and insert a few dollars as you suggested = free bike?

  • Like i said.. bikes are not usually locked here.. i think they included a lock in this just to keep it in place.

Japanese people don't think like westerners.. that is why I live here.

  • Unfortunately locking just the front wheel where I live doesn't seem to stop people from stealing the rest of the bike.

  • Depends which country you live in.

Usually Japanese people don't steal so we don't usually lock our bikes in Japan.

At our train station there are hundreds of bikes but we rarely see a lock.

Japan has one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

I think they only included locks in this system to keep the bikes in place.

  • yeah, i remember that view, lots of bikes, no one watching them... no one steal them, because thats the way it is there... amazing country, i once lost a phone card with a lot of credit in it to dial back home; next day it was in the phone where i lost it, with all the credit in it. Fantastic

  • Wow, pretty good idea!

  • Is it timed parking meter like for cars or do people rent those out at an apartment and have a pass code or something to unlock their bikes when they need it again?

  • yeah, just like a car parking meter but locks the wheel in place.

Paying the fee automatically unlocks it.

They have similar ones for cars.

  • great and innovative no need to carry on that heavy and ugly chain anymore
