Also, dental care is very sparse up there and in the U.K.

There should be a some road for people with pre existing conditions to always be covered, but I believe it should be at the state level. It is NOT the place of the fed gov't to do this. That's all people are saying here. Every state should have the right to create or not public health plans. Under the Constitution the states have the right to do that, the feds don't. That's all.

Huh? I'm an American living in Europe and I assure that "they" love free healthcare. I've been both insured and uninsured in the States and being uninsured is scary and outrageously expensive, not to mention that once you get sick you're eligibility to be insured goes way down. Having been insured in the States I can tell you that in Denmark the care I've received has been overall the same or better here. No European who I've met has complained like they do in the States over healthcare.

You have real experiences in this issues, I only have the experiences of friends and the huge amount of media stories supporting my argument. Just do a quick Google search, I find lots of stories of pregnant Canadians who leave for America to give birth. Usually the Canadian hospital cannot accept them, overcrowded, but the baby can't wait. So some plan in advance to give birth here. Sorry your such an angry person.

If that existed that would be a big controversy in Canada. Maybe your sources are wrong and you should never count on google to get your information. If you want to know the truth you should read scholary articles to come up with that a conlusion you have earlier stated. Our health care is top notch according to OECD rankings.

I know many people in health care, some even democrats and they all say you CAN NOT be turned away from a hospital because you don't have health care. In fact, doctors & nurses have no idea who has health care and who doesn't. Everyone gets the same treatment. The difference is in the billing only! You can pay $10 a month! They get very upset that people are being made to believe hospitals turn people away if they don't have health care.
I once went to the emergency room without healthcare. The dr. looked into my ears and prescribed antibiotics. It all took 30 seconds. I was billed $400. They won't turn an emergency away, but they will not treat you for a serious illness without insurance.

I dont think that health care providers should be allowed to drop college grads until at least 6 months after they graduate. I went through that, when I turned 23(5th year senior) I was dropped from my parents insurance. I went 6 months w/o insurance. I couldn't imagine going years without it. Something needs to be done. Not necessarily free health care, but a regulated affordable health system.

Many people come from Canada who are not millionaires, they save their money to get procedures and thet sometimes even buy insurance that is taken here because the care in Canada is so poor. I have spoken to Canadians who told me that the everyday stuff at the dr's is fine but they would come to the U.S. for operations if they could. Also, dental care is very sparse up there and in the U.K.

I have a cousin who lives in Hungary, they have socialized medicine. her husband was told to see a cardiac doc by his primary because of suspected heart disease. They told her it will be 5 MONTHS to see one and to "try and kep him alive til then"!!! She did and it was another 4 months for the procedure. You don't know what your asking for here!

What did people do in this country before ins cos came to be in the mid 1900's? Were people dying in the streets? No. People worked it out and there was a relationship between the doctor and patient sometimes for life.

Like I said the interstates were put in place as a means of national defense in case of attack so the milkitary could move quickly to defend the nation. There should be a some road for people with pre existing conditions to always be covered, but I believe it should be at the state level. It is NOT the place of the fed gov't to do this. That's all people are saying here. Every state should have the right to create or not public health plans. Under the Constitution the states have the right to do that, the feds don't. That's all.

In Europe they tried socializing health care and they hate it. The gov picks your doctor and the wait for an appointment is sometimes months. Those running on changing back to what we have are all winning the elections over there. Did you know pregnant women in Canada cross the boarder because the US has a better system then the socialized health care they have. Our system is the best in the world. Huh? I'm an American living in Europe and I assure that "they" love free healthcare. I've been both insured and uninsured in the States and being uninsured is scary and outrageously expensive, not to mention that once you get sick you're eligibility to be insured goes way down. Having been insured in the States I can tell you that in Denmark the care I've received has been overall the same or better here. No European who I've met has complained like they do in the States over healthcare.

Super, I'm not Canadian, so I'll give you the nod but I'm not uninformed. You have real experiences in this issues, I only have the experiences of friends and the huge amount of media stories supporting my argument. Just do a quick Google search, I find lots of stories of pregnant Canadians who leave for America to give birth. Usually the Canadian hospital cannot accept them, overcrowded, but the baby can't wait. So some plan in advance to give birth here. Sorry your such an angry person.

I am not mad my friend. I just happen to do work in health policy and have never encountered such cases where people had to go over the border to get their baby delivered. If that existed that would be a big controversy in Canada. Maybe your sources are wrong and you should never count on google to get your information. If you want to know the truth you should read scholary articles to come up with that a conlusion you have earlier stated. Our health care is top notch according to OECD rankings.

Believe it or not, it happens! The OECD is not going to address that issue. Our health care is also top notch according the Health working papers of OECD. It's hard to compare countries since the data years vary as does data reporting on specific illnesses but Canada & the USA are very comparable in many areas. Hi Jamie, I hate to say it but your story is fiction. I know many people in health care, some even democrats and they all say you CAN NOT be turned away from a hospital because you don't have health care. In fact, doctors & nurses have no idea who has health care and who doesn't. Everyone gets the same treatment. The difference is in the billing only! You can pay $10 a month! They get very upset that people are being made to believe hospitals turn people away if they don't have health care.

I once went to the emergency room without healthcare. The dr. looked into my ears and prescribed antibiotics. It all took 30 seconds. I was billed $400. They won't turn an emergency away, but they will not treat you for a serious illness without insurance.

We pay through taxes here in Denmark as well. Huge taxes. I prefer paying that way as I'm terrible at saving money and don't want a job solely for health insurance. You actually see the results of high taxes here, which makes me feel warm inside:) Good schools, efficient p.t., great doctors, impeccably paved roads, taller and better looking people...(that last one was a joke.

I dont think that health care providers should be allowed to drop college grads until at least 6 months after they graduate. I went through that, when I turned 23(5th year senior) I was dropped from my parents insurance. I went 6 months w/o insurance. I couldn't imagine going years without it. Something needs to be done. Not necessarily free health care, but a regulated affordable health system.

If not your friend had the choice not to work in college I worked my way through college and did have health care Also your friends parents ins should have covered her until she graduated unless she was a loser that took 7 years to get a Bachelors. Finally you gave your own answer GET A JOB. Dont expect others to pay for you when you dont even have a job.

Even if someone comes up with a solution that would work it'll take a lot of time to get it in place, so they need to decide on something very quickly & get to work on it- of course that means politicians agreeing on a solution first!
