I have been to Siena, but I want to go back and see this race. Have any Americans been there for this race (posting here on youtube). If so, was it as great as it seems in the HBO doc.?

I went and saw this one. I got there 10hrs early and got a front row standing spot. right across from the families of the jockies. Its more about the hype around the race then the race itself. If ur there just to c the race ull be disappointed. Its 2 min long. The festivities before and after are what its all about. In conclusion if ur in Italy during the time of the Palio go see it but dont make a special trip. Hope i was a help. Also the Italians didnt seem to like me there, for being American

It was not because you were American. The Sienese do not like tourists in general to be there during the Palio. It applies to me too, because I do not speak with sienese accent. I am from another tuscan city.

i'm amazed that there is actually a video of this. i just learned about it today from a sardinian family member, and he assured me that there would be no videos of it. however, the race isn't shown, not like the bribing and the beatings and all of that
