  • its not fake

  • greet ad ever

  • That is one big room

  • from what I heard from a Honda instructor, ITS ALL REAL.

  • so many cheats in this commercial. never mind, it's genial anyway:)

  • referred to this by the legendary Neil French, thank you sir

  • how did that tire go up at 0:27

  • AWWWWWWSOME!!!!!!!!

  • This is ridiculous(ly awesome)!

  • Rube Goldberg machine.

  • Actually It's a rip-off of a german experimental film - Der Lauf Der Dinge :)

  • i love this advert its awesome! and the bit that makes me laugh is 1:21 - 1:24 love it!

  • If all advertising was this clever, no one would ever complain. Unfortunately, there's no way to make five pharmaceutical ads in a row interesting. Especially when I'm not a woman, over 50, have trouble urinating or getting an erection, or feel I'm "depressed".

  • wow this advert took 664 trys to get it right :O

  • BEST !!!!

  • does anyone know the song they play at the end?

  • @playtrombone1 i believe around the world by daft punk

  • @playtrombone1 "Rapper's Delight" by Sugar Hill Gang

  • @elijahm379 good shout fella......

  • 0:30 looked a bit fake. how do the wheels role up. but otherwise its a pretty cool ad

  • @prod929292

The spokes distribute the weight of the wheel unevenly, so that even a slight change in rotation can tip its center of gravity to the other side (overcoming the gradient of the slope, which is of course also precisely tuned).

That, however, is more often easier said than done. Goes to show just how much trial and error and error went into this thing.

  • for me, this has to be the most innovative and creative ad ever, not just great for a car ad, but ads in general

  • I am impressed!

  • WICKED this must have took forever!

  • this is realy good..as an engineer i can realy apreciate this..it somehow symbolicaly shows how important each component of the car is important in order to make the car function properly..

  • song is sugarhill gang - rappers delight. well they may have sampled it but its definately in it!

  • creative and precise! well done.

  • What is it with car companies and awesome concepts for adverts lol. Nicely done.

  • Amazing that they did this WITHOUT cheating... Moron. :p

  • ive been tryin to find the name of the song at the end of this for years, what is the name of that song?! please help me!

  • @aPlasticArm Here you go. Its Called: the sugar hill gang - rapper's delight Enjoy. :)

  • Yes the wheels are weighted - you may say that's cheating as it's not part of the car but it is. Remember you have to balance new wheels before you put them on your car to sotp them vibrating themself off the car. Also the author said "minimal graphics" there are NO GRAPHICS in here. It took them three months to film it.

  • Someone obviously had way too much time on their hands :P

  • Not really. When they are paid to do this its not "too much time on their hands" its "a freaking lot of patience".

  • Ah yes, thats very true! ive always admired parience like that, like the people who sit there for hours working out how all the tiny peices of lego should go together to make the models and such...

  • best best best best ever

  • HA! This is EPIC!

  • i love this ad ^_^ but theres always one point of the ad i don't get, which was 0:26 how can the wheel still go up :S

  • @TrueWillz weight inside the wheel.

  • they copied that of Fischli & Weiss, the artists. they did a half an hour version.

  • i dont understand how the wheels move so much

  • They have weights in the right hand side of them, hence the reason they are stationery on a slope.

  • haha i dont get it [x im no good with physics though

  • lol remember this ad well, fuckin class :)

  • The question is.. Where did they find a room that long? :)

  • @BananaHandz08 you just read my mind

  • @BananaHandz08 They didn't. This is two takes. There is a very vell hidden invisible cut. But if you look closely, you will find it. Hint: watch the floor.

  • @mkarnerfors Dragon Dung. If it was really fake you would point out the exact time of the cut instead of trying to be cryptic and clever.

  • still cant get over how amazing that advert is, one of the best adverts of all time, ive watched it 1000`s of times and still cant get over how good it is.

  • theres a dvd of this ad i have it.

  • sweet ad

  • at the end it plays around the world by daft punk

  • wrong.

  • nawwp, thats Sugarhill Gang

  • how did the car stop rolling? and the wheels are modified in balance to role up hill considering they were stationary on a hill ? not naturally imposed at all...still another fine advert from the makers of dreams.

  • As has already been commented before, this ad rips off the way things go by Fishli and Weiss (der lauf der dinge, 1987)

  • its not cgi its not special effects...saw a program how they did this and it is all legit...took weeks to perfect ...one of my favourite adverts ever lol....RETARD lmao

  • yeh i saw the same program

over 600 attempts to get it lol

  • no the're not they're weighted

  • How did the wheels go UP the ramp though?

  • they had a weight on the inside

  • Haha no it's not... you retdard.

  • FAIL. If you knew any thing about physics you'd understand that it is impossible for the first tyre to push the others up the ramp. I guess Honda used used an anti gravity device right.....Not forgetting the fact Honda even showed the making of this advert and how they used the CGI to make some of the movements more fluid and believable.

  • Mate. There was weights inside the tyres which were positioned so that the slightest nudge would send them up the ramp. So how about you get your facts straights next time :) Faggot

  • You FAIL.

  • Haha. I really do find you quite amusing.

  • Muja, before mouthing off with such certainty, why don't you read the linked newspaper artice?

"At one point three tyres, amazingly, roll uphill. They do so because inside they have been weighted with bolts and screws which have been positioned with fingertip care so that the slightest kiss of kinetic energy pushes them over, onward and, yes, upward"

  • Even as a Honda hater, this ad is quite impressive.

  • they should let the workers do these adverts instead of the management.

  • 1:28 you can see that the window doesn't touch

  • it blows over the pannell thing it wasnt meant to touch

  • it is the wind blown by the window that knocked it down.

  • It's the WIND readthisgoodgirl

  • i dont know the tires going up kind of got to me...

  • "isnt it nice when things just... work" yep, after 600 attempts ;)

  • I envy whom that can watch Japanese Car makers ad like this on TV.

Sorry to say,in Japan, almost of car ads are boring and not so impressing ...

  • some ads are just awesome, none of the contraption is computer generated, it was all done in a single take and it demonstrated key features of the car like the sound system and automated windscreen wipers. ingenious.

  • @Enqueion Actually, it took 600 takes.

  • @Enqueion Actually, it took about 660 takes.

  • @Enqueion Actually, it was done in two takes stitched together at the part where the muffler rolls across the floor. There was also a bit of post work to clean up the wires, and to enhance the window wash spray.

  • @Enqueion Not really. Watch the tyres move at 00:25. It's fake.

  • @justkingshu No it's not fake. The tires have heavy weights on the top.

  • @justkingshu i know you can put weights in the tyers but yea i dunno if it would work that great

  • The correct answer is 606 takes.

  • Is this Honda Accord stationwagon available in the U.S. market?

  • you mean estate?yeah it should be

  • Excellent remake of the late 1990's Mercedes ad. Well done.

  • hate adverts and they r always on at the same time wen u change channel there always bloody der but this advert is 2 sik

  • cool

  • The wheels have carfuly placed weights in them

  • what is that song at the end?

  • Rappers Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang

  • RAPPERS DELIGHT BY SUGER HILL GANG

  • The only thing that looks fake is at 0.24, the wheels couldn't roll up that ramp after only being touched off the other wheel. Still best ad ever.

  • Magnetism I think.

  • they are half filled with concrete.

  • very inventive

  • Google fischli weiss lauf der dinge 1987

  • Best Car Advert Ever!

  • Notice how after the oil spills, one of the nut-looking valve-spring things almost doesn't make it into the cylinder. If it hadn't, the whole thing would have had to start all over yet again.

  • "isnt it nice when thigns just...work.." yeah it is...but this didnt 600 times!

  • yeah i read about this on snopes, its real. its not made with graphics.

  • This is cool!

  • The wheels go up the ramp because they have weights placed inside to the front, so that the slightest movement propells them forward

Thw window rolls down because it isn't one full plank of wood, it's split where the window moves up and down, you can see the crack

The speakers are CGI, but only to illustrate what would cause the coil to roll from the windshield

How do we know it took 606 takes? Type "Lights!-Camera!-Retake!" into Google and read the article form the Telegraph

  • ur clever + this is cool

  • is this like the best advert ever?

  • Comment removed

  • lol kl i wonder how invented this

  • peter fischli and david weiss are the real wonder behind this, they designed and filmed a chain reaction very similar to this in 1987 called 'the way things go', a 100ft long construction using physical interactions and chemical reactions. very obvious that honda have been inspired by this original masterpiece

  • How does the window roll down with a plank of wood in it then?

  • are you telling me those speakers arnt C.G.I and.... how do YOU know it took over 600 takes, lol

  • it was in the news at the time they were talking about all the effort they went into... this one is the 601st take, it was the newspaper headline ages ago...

  • none of this is fake took like 600 takes

  • This is one of the best adverts of all time! also what the guy says 'Isnt it nice, when things just..work' Thats so true for honda, they do just, work!

  • I think it would have been funnier if what ever was rolling at 1:12 smashed the window instead of just touching it. However, a very good advert overall.

  • It was ment to be showing the contents of the car so if it it smashed the window it would kinda be saying "Hey this car is easy to break into." Lol :-)

  • Give these people some dominoes and they'd be lethal

  • Stolen idea.

  • look carfully as the exaust is rolling along the floor. look at the floor pattern

  • niceee

  • Fantastic effort. I hear it took more than 700 takes!!!

  • They had weighted the wheels so that they would roll uphill (at least till the weight ended up at the bottom of the wheel). Hope that answers a couple questions.

  • thanks iv been wondering tht for ages ever since i saw it

  • i can see a newspaper title now 'Honda man doesnt Drive honda' lol writes its self...

  • Yes, yes it is. It's in fact well-documented that this commercial was done without computer graphics or digital tricks. It's all quite genuine. Google the "Honda cog commercial" and look it up for yourself.

  • Absolutley Amazing But I Dont get The Bit When the Tyres Roll Up The Ramp LOL That Obv Fake

  • Nope. Totally real.

  • they are weighted, when they are still all of the weight is at the top of the wheel, when given a slight nudge the wheel rolls untill the weight is at the bottom of it.

  • it looks like 3D. a lot easier to do as an animation achieving exactly the same look, so why bother to do it real?

  • It is real. I have a dvd that came free in some newspaper here in the UK that showed the full behind the scenes.

  • Cool, we had the same DVD :)

  • I can see how the tires could roll up hill if they are weighted, and if you look hard you can see notches on the ramp to keep them from rolling downhill... I just don't know about that muffler, seems like it would roll once or twice but not 8 times...

  • its real it was in the papers tokk them 103 go's but its all real

  • Took them about 600 attempts only the set - up is man made

  • Ausome vid very clever some parts seem pointless but overall gud

  • ye although they had to blend some bits together on the computer because they didnt have a room big enough. Still, this advert is genious! :-)

  • best ad love it never gets boreing

  • Amazing ad.

  • lol amazing advert shame its for a crappy car!

  • This reminds me of Tom&Jerry O.o

  • I've seen a program on the making of this ad , it is all real but if they made 1 single mistake , boosh , start again. I love their oatience and the ad is genius :)

  • That is SO awesome!

did someone actualy make that in real life!?

  • yeah...apparently it took them like 200 and summat goes before they got it right

  • no they did not make it in real life - have you heard of physics

  • All done without CGI too

  • Comment removed

  • No, this is actually all real. I remember reading it took around 600 takes to get it right. As for the tyres, there was weights inserted into them so they would roll slightly up the ramp.

  • Comment removed

  • It is clearly fake dont be ridiculous

  • It's real. Look it up on Google ('Cog advert')

  • The weights make sense, but that still doesn't explain how they sit on the ramp and don't automatically roll off.

  • Comment removed

  • The tires were weighted at the tops with bolts, causing enough forward momentum to roll a half turn uphill.

    Done.

  • Comment removed

  • Weights positioned at certain points.

  • The tires had weights taped onto the inside of the rim at the top of the wheel...

the cylinder rolled downhill, stopped when it hit the glass, then continued rolling after the glass was lowered out of the way.

    Amazing, yes, but not impossible.

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously there is a little bit of artistic license going on. From what I was told the vast the majority of the advert was not CGI, and was actually done for real, but remember some of the parts were almost impossible to do without CGI. Its a great advert still :)

  • *sigh* No, there is no CGI. At all. All of it is real. From start to finish. 606 failed attempts, and two takes, since the studio wasn't long enough for one continious take. However, all of it happens, in the order you see, as you see it.

  • *sigh* Ok, to respond to your two comments...

    1. Not all that intense slope, tires designed to provide friction against the road, and a pretty standard wooden board, plus weighting and imparted energy from the previous 'bump'. Any other problems?

    2. Where is the flat, reflective, side towards the camera surface the crane would be seen it? Please point it out.

  • Genious

  • That's "genius", genius. :p

  • BEST AD EVER

  • Whats the exact song and artisit?
