  • sweet tone...nice flare :) thnx 4 pstng

  • @jcwilky Thank you for listening.

  • Never having owned a Gibson (Fenders and Rics yes) I'm still impressed with the sustain of a Les Paul.

  • @stuka52 /thanks!

  • great job man

  • @bboi1010 Thanks!

  • Nice job. You put in a ton of effort to learn this tune even though you make it look easy. Way to go!!! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • @cjoey39 Thank you Joey.

  • that awsome, and i love that classic sorta funky background stuff behind the guitar, but next time u should be staning up, u look really lazy hahaha, but yeah awsome playing

  • Thanks...

  • Top dollar mate, keep on rocking! May the force of Santana be with you.

  • sweet tone

  • Thanks!

  • I kinda liked your picking style! Also nice vibrato you got there but you got to master the bending (we all have to offcourse:D) What you diffinitely need is a better amp :)

  • I believe it is called "efficiency picking." It was the first thing I learned off a guitar CD, early on. My instructor later told me he doesn't recommend it for students...but it was too late.

I've gotten more positive than negative comments on the tone. I wasn't trying to mimic Santana's tone...just a bluesy tone via the Pod XT with the Mesa Boogie amp. The Podxt is used in more commercial recordings than any other, fwiw.

  • muy buena viola...

  • Gracias!

  • epiphone or gibson?

  • Gibson.

  • gibson

  • Most Excellent

  • Thank you!

  • awesome!!!thanks

  • Thank YOU!

  • what effect is that?

it sounds very cool to me!

  • Thanks. No effects... just my Les Paul via my Pod xt's Mesa Boogie Amp setting.

  • Cool!

  • nice gibson. is it les paul custom?

  • Thanks... it is a Les Paul Classic.

  • Thanks... your video is great...5 stars!

  • really nice... how long did it take u to get this good?

  • My (AIM) guitar instructor gave me private lessons for about six months. This part of the song doesn't require difficult fast picking. It is important to have the proper tabs...virtually all of the youtube videos of this song are inaccurate -- you can't play it right (hammer-ons/pull-offs) via inaccurate fret position(s). Doing the picking drills up and down the fretboard is an important part of it. I hope this helps...I've got a long way to go...

  • This is what it's all about. Keep it up.

  • how do you get that type of tone?

  • I've gotten both pro and con comments about the guitar tone, lol. I was using my Pod XT set to the Mesa Boogie. I wasn't trying to mimic Santana's tone... just a bluesy sound.

  • nice sound using rhythm pick up?

  • nice playing brutha!

  • Thank you!

  • Very good!

  • Thank you.

  • now it´s 2 years later and i guess you´re not an amateur guitar player anymore. would be cool if you uplaod a new version of this .

  • I'm still a rank amateur...but thanks for commenting.

  • hahaha mean it ur not an amateur guitar player anymore, even though this song is made like 40 years before i was born i like this song hahaha

  • great cover hope to see the full cover

  • Thanks!

  • Great 5/5

  • Thank you!

  • wow that was amazing great tone i can only play the intro but wow that was great keep up the good work

  • Thank you!

  • nice cover right there u deserve 5 stars. im learnin that song and im havin an idea doin a cover lol

  • Thank you very much! The key to playing this correctly is having the correct tab... i.e. Hal Leonard :) so that you have the bends, pulloffs, etc., right.

  • 5 stars easy !

    hello from Sweden

  • Thank you! It had five stars until someone spammed all of my vids with ones... lol.

  • thats terrific do you have any tabs

  • Thanks! The Hal Leonard tab is the accurate one.

  • Ooo, what a sweet tone. Check out my cover if you get a chance. 5 stars.

  • Thank you!!! I will check it out now.

  • Great Playing, but I don´t think the guitar fits this song

  • I like it , great!

  • MORE PRACTICE AND CHANGE THE TONE A BIT

  • Only thing I like is the guitar

  • u r brill keep it up

  • Thanks.

  • that guitar is so kick ass

  • good job but i wasnt diggin da tone. great performance

  • dudeeeeee you're good!!!!!!

  • good cover.... i dont like the tone that much but but thats just me u played it great keep rockin

  • like the orignal xD

  • that was good man, hey question how did u get the background music to play along ?

  • There is no background track. It was all recorded in my studio... the rhythm part was done by a friend on my Martin D35 acoustic via my Neumann TLM 103 studio mic. I did the drums on my Mapex Pro M kit via AKG drum kit mics. I played the Les Paul via my Pod XT... all mixed in Pro Tools and edited via Avid Media Composer.

  • If you think this one's bad, you should have seen my other ones. lol.

  • That was awsome man! great job! i have a vid of that song but mine sucks compared to yours!

  • great vid man lol who your teacher

  • A friend, Rob Schumann. He works at the Atlanta Institute of Music and at iVideosongs. You can download his instructional vids there. He doesn't give private lessons, but he did for me as a friend.

  • ahh.. I love that sound! <3 ;)

  • Man you are a great guitarist!

The tone you get is out of this world.

What brand of amp (and watts) and/or pedals are you using?

    From a Fan,

    Richard

  • Thanks for the kind words.

I am using my trusty Pod XT amp modeler...using the Mesa/Boogie setting with Presence up almost all the way... channel volume up all the way, drive about halfway...with some delay and comp/gate. I fooled with it until I got the sound I wanted...and I'm very pleased. Thanks for noticing!

Btw...it is running through my Mackie Mixer to ProTools -- no addtional effects were used in ProTools, fwiw.

  • damn awesome

  • Thanks! Please rate it above.

  • wow. better than orginal ;D

  • Thank you... dunno exactly what to say about that, except that I appreciate your nice comment.

  • Any chance of doing a how to?

  • I'd suggest getting the Hal Leonard tab. This song is all about correct fretboard position using bends and pull offs. You can't depend on free internet tabs to be accurate.

  • Where do you get the Hal Leonard?

  • Music stores or search the web. I recommend Hal Leonard because they are accurate.

  • Ok Thx and Great Playing!

  • nice videos....

what is the effect that u use in the video??

  • I use Avid Media Composer with Boris Continuum Complete and Boris Red (Avid FX). I also use Adobe After Effects.

  • your good man. do you have a lesson on that song. i want to learn that.

  • Thanks... I'd say that the key to this song is in the correct fret positions to account for the bends and pull-offs. You can't play it correctly if you aren't in the correct position(s) on the fretboard. Get the Hal Leonard tabs...they are accurate...hopefully my vid here will help as well.

  • THAT SOUNDS NICE AND I LIKE THE BEAT!

  • Thank you!

  • tu est tro bien

  • Merci!

  • You sir are a champion.

  • Very nice

  • To my surprise and amazement, this vid had 8 consecutive five star ratings (with approx 1,930 views) until this morning when someone decided to sabatoge ALL my videos by giving them a one. lol. Dreams don't last forever...thanks to those who were so kind.

  • Samething is happening to my vids ... have another 5 star - very nice

  • Wow, great tone... I love that guitar! How do you get that vibrato?

  • Thanks. I was taught that vibrato/feeling is important. I use BB King style vibrato when I can...and just try to vibrate the strings when bending, etc. I love playing my Les Paul, btw...glad you noticed its killer tone!

  • One of the best I have seen on YouTube! Really enjoyed it! "FIVE STARS"...

  • nice :)

  • sounds good

  • Very nice.

  • Thank you! Much appreciated.
