The oxygen mask is part of the "Aircrew Equipment Assembly" and even without the hose it is worn to ensure the helmet stays in place during any ejection. Without it the helmet could come off, or rotate during the ejection, where the helmet chinstrap could kill the pilot. Some warbird pilots on live ejection seats seem to have forgotten or ignore this.
This video is a great tribute to Mark who was a great bloke.
Thanks for the info on his death what a loss to the aviation community, being an aviator myself I recognize his brilliance at least he went out doing what he loved!
Mark Hanna crashed in the OFMC Hispano Buchon as he attended a Spanish airshow on Saturday 25/9/99. His aircraft crashed and then caught fire. Mark was taken to hospital but died on the Sunday. He is greatly missed.

@kermitthepilot why does he say brakes on after gear up? there is no need for brakes with the gear up. is this normal for flying a hunter.

I have since found out from someone who knew Mark very well. that he actually died at 8:30 that Saturday evening.

why in Europe do some pilots wear Oxygen masks with no hose hooked up to it? I've always wondered this.

Hi,
The mask has a microphone in it. Not all civil warbirds still have the oxygen system working. it's one less thing to take care off.
