the same Marseille that were stripped and chucked outta Europe for match fixing against a russian team i think it was.....back in early 90's. says it all. and as for waddle...nicknamed twaddle. teams cuda scored buckets more goals if he didnt hog the ball everytime. no doubting he was good but not that good hence why he was left out of england squad and before u english argue just go look at your greatest england player with lowest caps...glen hoddle - now theres a quality player. waddle - lmfao
1.16 --> 1.33 : What a nostalgia. I was there. It was Marseille Vs PSG in 1990. Magic Chris scored this goal at the 92" to win 2-1. England gave us Waddle, we gave them Cantona. ( and we can see them at 1.38 )
Aw too young to remember eh? - Well this old fart will tell you it's Elvis Presley singing on the Chris Waddle video - Not sure why they picked that must admit, but hey ho!
i can only imagine what the dressing room was like at tottenham with waddle n gascoigne in the same team!!!!! both of them r jokers!!! it was a joy 2 watch anyway
Personaggio di altro livello. Su per giù come Gilardino e gli altri fenomeni del calcio italiano. Nell'intervista di oggi: "Com'è Jovetic?" "è un campione" "E Ljajic?" "E' fortissimo" "E Babacar?" What happened to the production line of Geordie footballers like Beardsley, Waddle and Gascoigne. Proper footballing midfielders from humble roots, nothing like that now...
He cared about putting the england shirt on too. Listen to him smashing up the studio during eng vs germany at south africa on 5live lol. Still passionate about england which is more than can be said for the talentless jokers we have now! LEGEND
Just brilliant!
waddle, gazza beardsley or lampard, beckham and the rest of them over hyped average players ! no skill in prem league all pace no clever players anymore ! only reason frank and the boys look any good is cause the foriegn players can bail them out! when it comes to england games there fucked, thats why we never come close! i blame fa for this, would not have any english coaches near any one with ability! its coached out of them as soon as they r at a pro club! i soth africa next year forget it !
@jotacheproduction i've gota book at home with comments from chris saying when he was at newcaslte, during the summer he would practice shoot and crossing with his right foot so by the time the season started he was confident enough to play on either wing. defenders wouldn't know which way he was gonna go
At the time when Waddle was one of the best players in Europe and winning the European Cup for OM that f***** IDIOT Graham Taylor refused to pick him for England and we never qualified for 94 World cup! Can anyone explain that?
I know I'm replying to a message that is two years old but what the hell...
When Taylor refused to pick Waddle he was playing for Sheffield Wednesday. Taylor was still a idiot though because he was playing the best football of his life and everyone knew it which is why he was named the player of the season by the football writers. It was my privilege to watch him every week. I wish we had any player now who was even a tenth as good as he was.
Can you explain why you thought Waddle won the European Cup with Marseille? Because he didn't.
To answer your question, Taylors style of play was all about getting hard-running work-horses to wear down the opposition. Waddle was a lazy, skillful flair player aka "luxury player". He'd be the first man kicked out of any Taylor team. As bad as England were under Taylor they'd have been worse with Waddle trying to fit into that system.
I'm from Marseille too. I agree with him. I would also pick Papin, Boksic, Sonny Anderson, Desailly perhaps too young at the time, Barthez, A.Pelé as the best we had.
There were also players like Tigana, Francescoli or Skoblar but I never saw them play entire games.
Doddlesock...We used to get our sausages off him when he worked at Quebec...Im from Old Esh meself...Played for Tow Law Town didnt he? Very underrated footballer..
his names christopher, thats all you could hear from the touchline when we were bairns, his dad joe would shout this at teachers, referees, and anyone else who dared call him chrissie, happy memories indeed, he was very small up untill his late teens and a think he was knocked back by coventry on those grounds, how it took so long for him to be noticed by the toon baffles me to this day

My mate is French and a Marseille fan.
He reckons Waddle was one of the best players to play for Marseille and they've had some class players over the years.
It's just a shame we didn't get to watch much of him.
He had a very unique style.
