When Taylor refused to pick Waddle he was playing for Sheffield Wednesday. Taylor was still a idiot though because he was playing the best football of his life and everyone knew it which is why he was named the player of the season by the football writers. It was my privilege to watch him every week. I wish we had any player now who was even a tenth as good as he was.

To answer your question, Taylors style of play was all about getting hard-running work-horses to wear down the opposition. Waddle was a lazy, skillful flair player aka "luxury player". He'd be the first man kicked out of any Taylor team. As bad as England were under Taylor they'd have been worse with Waddle trying to fit into that system.

He reckons Waddle was one of the best players to play for Marseille and they've had some class players over the years.

It's just a shame we didn't get to watch much of him.

He had a very unique style.

I'm from Marseille too. I agree with him. I would also pick Papin, Boksic, Sonny Anderson, Desailly perhaps too young at the time, Barthez, A.Pelé as the best we had.
