dont know about about your sport , i have watched a few off your videos , and on a few of your vids i notice you pull a wire thats by your hands whats thats for ? and if its to tighten a wing how do you know when to tighten it or loosen it ?
great flying by the way .like the one following the tour of cal ,i`m a cyclist by the way ,
@0leandr1 Yes, this is my first real comp and first time aero towing too. I have been reading the reports on the Celestine Soaring Society forum. I still have two videos to edit of recent epic flying in SoCal. LOL. The flying in the comp is awesome practice and fun in spite of getting my ass kicked every 10 minutes. ;-)
@pdutube Thanks. Flex-wing HGs are generally segregated into 3 classes: Topless; Kingposted; and single surface. Most races seem to be 99% topless gliders. It's funner than heck having a Falcon race.
@Flyzguy I really do flop all over the place. Doesn't much matter until I pull the string and go fast. Much of the reason is I need to keep my head oriented for maximum mental control and sense of balance. I lack many of the abilities of my fellow pilots and have to do whatever it takes to stay mentally and spatially oriented. Hope this makes sense. Note: I replied w/ my alter-ego earlier. LOL!
That beep-beep-beep-beep-beep was missing in your movies lately.
Tough landing with those boulders - congratulations, I thought you mountain HGs wear knee pads :) (and panzershoes ;) )
Were you able to notice that area you landed with least rocks on downwind leg or you picked it just on final? From that low angle it looked quite creepy.
@0leandr1 It took me a while to adjust the setting on my vario until I found the sound helpful. Previously, I could not fly with the way it had beeped. Yes, those boulders did give me pause and I really psyched myself up while staging. I depend entirely upon glider control to avoid injury. If I don't have it, I either land where it's easy or I don't fly. I edited out a lot of my aerial reconnaissance of my imaginary runway. I did find a line w/ minimal boulders and that's where I came in.
Nice landing, had me on the edge of my seat when called in and said you didn't know where you were going to land. Did you really lose your wallet? Good luck finding it!
@cesnyderces1 I really did lose my wallet over that same area a month ago and I really did not know where I was going to land. I did have a few ideas but I'd never been to these fields. :-O
@MrLiftHog I have bad news for you John. That was a particularly easy flight. I fly w/ clothespins to air out my sweaty togs along my side wires while waiting for my driver after a typical flight. :-D

Hey, I see you are doing tasks on flats.
Despite good soaring predictions for Southern California :)
Do you use soaringpredictor.info RASP tables?

Have you ever tried flying at Yosemite park? I bet that's an awesome place to fly.

@kokalti I'll have to try that one day. It's looks gorgeous.

Love the narration! Are these races between glider classes? I mean, a Falcon isn't going to compete with a T2 is it? It looks extremely challenging!

Beautiful flight and great videocam position, which gives a superb view on the wing and allows VG observation.

Loved the anxiety releasing chatter as you talked your way thru final and flare!

@1airfair Glad you enjoyed the jibber-jabber. It takes a while before I can narrate while flying.

Hi Johnathon: Are you flying a 154 now? Does that glider have the new better pully VG system? Wow, that was a rocky landing area. Nice flight.
I just put up a video of a fellow pilot in the flatlands of Michigan at -

@cdnskydog @cdnskydog Hi Bob, I still fly the 144. This was a demo flight. It had the 16:1 pulley which I prefer to the 24:1.

@MrAndrew1101 Thanks, mate! That was my alter-ego who replied earlier. :-)

Loved the video! Have to ask about the body yaw angle - is it exaggerated with the lens or do you really sideslip your body that much during flights?

@NMERider Gotcha. Hey it works! You go a long ways, and spend the time to make it fun for us to fly along on youtube :)

You could've smashed in someone else's glider. Looks like a missed opportunity to me.

The eagle has landed. Well done Jonathon. I feel exhausted just watching that video.
I salute you for what you do but silky ocean breezes will do me just fine :)
