  • Pavlova's switch ring has been one of the best leaps ever performed

  • the leap/jump at 0:27 was technically a tour jete half

  • at 2:13, i believe it can also be called a travelling russian? I'm not positive, but that's just what it's called in dance (I've been in dance for 12 years). I could be wrong, but it looks like a travelling russian

  • @Undermedveten, a split jump is a horizontal line, a sissone is when the back leg is higher and the front leg is lower.

  • We see a somewhat similar version of a switch wolf at 3:24 by Olaru. And Deng Linlin does it on floor, I believe. I wonder if we'll ever see a switch sheep. Maybe on floor. Probably a C or a D on floor. Basically a ring leap but the front leg comes back to join the back leg? It seems possibly. I wish we'd see more butterflies. Just gorgeous.

  • the last leap is amazing, in Pavlova is so much beatiful

  • @javito1229 Yes, I wish they had uploaded the last jump in slow motion from the BBC footage of the Beijing Olympics. Such a beautiful jump when done to perfection.

  • What's the difference between a split jump and a sissone?

  • @Undermedveten A Sissone just means the back leg comes up higher than the front leg. Same movement.

  • is the move called the Johnson named after Shawn Johnson or someone else?

  • @meganvb21493 It's named after Brandy Johnson I think.

What's the difference between a leap and a jump e.g split jump v. split leap?

  • @ParanoidAndroidDA a leap has running or skipping etc. before the leap, a jump is from standing.

  • anyone know what this music is? / what this song is called?

  • Straddle jump is a B.

  • I love ring leaps and double stags :) they're so pretty and so fun to do! :) sheep jumps make me mad though lol

  • ok.. the henrich skill is just lame.. if she cant hit 180degrees in her jump that shouldnt even be called a skill.. split leap with bend leg..?? thats just really stupid..

  • r u sure tt's butterfly at 1:56?isn't tt supposed 2 be side aerial?

  • @esthertan8 I was thinking the same thing. It does look kind of like a side aerial.

  • @esthertan8 haha, i watched it again n i still see it's lyk an aerial...

  • Great video! Very helpful!

  • What happen to the Double Stag Jump. Wasn't like one of the most difficult jump in the 1990s

  • I think you should've used Nastia more then once; she had flexibility on her jumps on beam and floor like noone else.

  • what's the difference between a split leap and a split jump?

  • @goldnangl3000 the split leap is taken off from 1 foot, and you leap forward. but for split jump, you take off from both of your feet and only stay in the same place

  • @natalienat518 thanks! it clears things up :)

  • Aren't you supposed to throw your head back on the split ring jump?

  • im well confused lol theres 2 split jumps with a full turn 1 is c difficulty and 1 is d :S lol which 1 is it

  • @unevercalled One of them is a split leap with a full turn and one of them is a split jump with a full turn, they are not the same element.

  • Why is that a butterfly and not a side summersault?

  • does anybody know when the Sheep Jump was first performed? I mean, nowadays (let's say since the 2000s) you see them quite often but does anybody know a gymnast who performed it in the 90s or even earlier?

  • @21najafast The earliest one I have ever seen was Yuka Arai of Japan at the 1994 Worlds, I don't know if anyone performed it before her though

  • @MostepanovaFan Thank you :) You know so much about gymnastics, that's amazing. I watched the routine. It was really beautiful. Wobbly but still beautiful. I especially liked her mount and how she combined it. I wish more gymnasts would do mounts like that instead of simply jumping onto the beam just because it's less risky. And her sheep jump was beautiful, too :))

  • pause at 3:58 ^^

  • Awesome

  • i wish more people competed yang bo's jump

  • ok everyone pause at 3:45 to see REAL NATRUAL grace and elegance, not the trash you see today from nastia who has labored grace

  • Nastia has the best grace

  • Eesh. What is with the hate?

  • no nastia has beauty lines and elegance. was better then shannon miller

  • Has anyone ever done a switch ring leap and yang bo combo?

  • has anybody ever done a full twisting side swich leap??

  • Yes it is. She had long hair for a while in 94. Yang Bo's jump is a Yang Bo. She doesn't bend her leg, which you do in a ring jump.

  • that first girl is khorkina. it's her 94 beam routine.

  • I will see, Chinese girls are really good at Jumps and Leaps on Beam, they perform jumps on beam way better than other countries girls.

Chinese girls perform the best Yang Bo, Sheep Jump, Ring Leap, Switch Split and Switcg Split Ring Leap.

  • i disagree about one leap in general that i hate from the chinese all together and that is the switch ring leap, the chinese make that one look ick. oddly enough i think the best switch rings on beam are from two russians hah pavlova and liukin.

  • I agree with you mostly. The best switch rings were performed by Anna Pavlova and Catalina Ponor, but Fan Ye (yes, of China) had a pretty nice one, too. Currently, Ana Porgras's switch ring is pretty nice looking as well.

  • Who did first a "switch split ring leap"

Thank you so much for your interesting vids

  • What's the difference between a tour jete and a switch split leap with a half turn.

  • Comment removed

  • One turn outwards while the other one turn inwards.

  • The skill performed by Mitova in this video is not a split jump - it's a scissone (two foot take-off, one foot landing). Similarly, the skill performed by Loaies is a stag scissone, not a stag leap.

Switch ring leap may be performed with the back leg straight and it's considered the same element as with the back leg bent (per article 7 in the code).

  • Since when is a strattle jump an A? A person on my team had one in her routine, and it was a B I believe

  • it's an A in elite, B in level 10

  • Thanks for the clarification

  • Nastia Liukin is the best

  • this has been really useful. Thanks for posting.

  • I was reading an old newsletter, which gives updates on new skills and on the code, from 2006 and it lists the switch Yang Bo as an E element and it is called the Pang

  • I believe a straddle jump is a C value skill and a B in side stand.. There's no way it got devalued to an A

  • The video is correct. A straddle jump , forward or side on is an 'A' skill... Because a Straddle half jump is a 'B' skill... i compete this move so i am certain this video is right.

  • It's correct, I competed about a year and a half ago and a straddle jump was only an A..

  • this is the elite code of points

  • Anna Pavlova has the best Switch Ring Leap. So confident

  • At 0:51 who is Liu Juan? Did you mean Liu Xuan?

  • No, they are different people. Liu Juan was competing around 2005 but I think she has retired now

  • ok thx :)

  • The girl at 1:52 doing the butterfly fell off right after she did it :(

  • She didn't fall off, she went straight into her back tuck dismount out of it

  • Thank you for your beautiful and educational gymnastics videos!

  • Thank you so much for posting these. My daughter is training for level 7 and these videos will be very helpful.

  • Could you do a turns and jumps guide for floor?

  • are the difficulties listed FIG value or USAG values?

  • USAG uses the FIG values

  • the split jump at 00:36 is actually a sissone

  • Not really, because the split jump is parallel to the floor while a sissone does not need to be parallel to the floor.

  • but you land on one foot on a sissone right?

  • A jump, as defined by the FIG, is a take off from two feet to land on one or two feet. A sissone is a split jump that takes off of two feet and lands on one, but the split does not have to be parallel to the ground like a split jump has to.

  • Could you do a guide on turns and their value? It'd probably be a pretty short video but I'm curious about it. Always enjoy your guides, thanks!

  • Thank you thank you so much for this video. It's nice to know what some of these jumps and leaps are called.

  • Fantastic video - well done again

  • Pang Panpan did the switch Yang Bo in 2006; Search for:

"2006 Worlds Team Finals Pang PanPan BB"

Why his leap is not included on the code? Or it's under the same name as the yang Bo jump?

  • I think it's just credited as a switch split ring

  • I agree with Munch. I think the skill would be the same DV as a switch ring (it's not in the COP). Getting the necessary oversplit AND keeping the back leg straight AND properly doing the switch to set it up may make this harder than the switch ring. They're hammering the switch ring in the current COP for the back leg shape (needs to be an "o") to give it an E.

  • Wonderful video as always, thank you very much!

Question: I can't find the Switch Yang Bo jump on the code, and I'm sure it has been done several times: Pang panpan did it in 2006 and recntly Wu Liufang did it at AYOF. Am I missing something?

  • there is no switch yang bo. im guessing what you saw was a switch ring, which is a split leap where the knee bends back to touch the head. in the yang bo, you do an oversplit jump.

thanks for posting this MostepanovaFan for posting this. i just realized there is another version of the 2009 cop.

  • Yes, there is. Wu Liufang did a switch Yang Bo at the AYOF. Type "2009 AYOF Wu Liufang BB". It's the leap she was attempting when she fell.

  • Wu Liufang doesn't fall in that clip, though there's a bit of a stumble. It doesn't seem like she should get credit for a switch Yang Bo--her head was dropped but her rear leg wasn't high enough. But I can't even touch my toes so who's to say.

  • Then I guess you have watched EF. I was talking about team finals. The skill is well completed, but she fell. You're right, on EF it wasn't perfectly completed.

Anyway, anybody knows why this leap is not listed in the code?

  • i watched both the tf and the ef. and i can only decide that she was doing a normal switch leap, and she's just so flexible that she oversplits lol. the yang bo is a completely different skill though, its a jump. the girl in the video does a leap, so maybe she could get it named after her.

  • Another awesome job!!!!

  • Moste you've done it again - another montage that captures the beauty of gymnastics! What's the name of the music? It was lovely.

  • It is Claudine by Maksim, and thank you :)

  • You are my hero, Mostepanovafan.

  • I absolutely lovveeee all of your guide videos...keep them coming :)

  • Thanks soooo much!!! I'll be studying to understand gymnastics better.

The music was soooo beautiful too!!! What is it called?

  • Oh my god, the butterfly leap is killer! My jaw just dropped, that is unbelievable. I wish the new crop would do stuff like that more often. I've had my fill of sheep jumps for the decade.

  • thanx so much!!!

  • If you're on Mostepanova's subscription list, ever day is Christmas.

  • So true. I love Mostep :)

  • The music was so soothing! My dogs and I almost fell asleep. lol Great montage!!

  • what are the codes ?

  • In the code of points every skill is given a number, that is what the code is.
