It is frustrating to see how the writers took almost all of the characters to an unsatisfactory ending. Unsatisfactory because they each were heroic in action and thus we desire only the best for our heroes. What I meant in my first post was this: Lucas' last act was self-sacrifice,self-ending with no harm done to another-painful heroism to the end.
Great job comparing those two with their relationships to Harry. I am now rewatching the Tom episodes and I can see some of the similarities to Lucas. The song was an excellent choice!

I think Tom is the lucky one, even if he failed Harry, he got away in time before his job destroyed him completely, unlike most of the others (Adam, Roz, Lucas,....), I mean, he lives!
I surely will miss Lucas, for me he remains the good-hearted, heroic but tortured soul we met at the begining, I will pretend season 9 never happened!

It's unfortunate that the one man who gave up everything and spent 8 years of hell and torture to stay loyal to his country ended up dying in disgrace, it's tragic that the fate Lucas ended with. He deserved better than what happened.
Yes, I agree with you, I too find it unbelievable that a man who gave up 8 years of his life would (re-)become someone who kills just 'to be someone', I really hope RA's trip to the Shire will turn out better for him, he deserves it!

@TheBelle3009 Well Thorin Oakenfield is a great noble character in the books, so I doubt that will change on the movie screen, I can't wait, RA deserves the recognition!
As for how much close is this to reality, I think there are many aspects of this show that hits very close to home for the real MI5. In fact, Peter Firth (Harry) said that eventually MI5 stopped cooperating with the show, and he thinks it's because some of the stuff they were showing were more accurate than MI5 would like it.
Didn't know that what PF said about MI5! Those poor people then, giving so much up for the safety of people they don't even know! (I'm from Belgium, we do not have such a high profile nat. security agency, at least not that I'm aware of ;)). I couldn't do it!, that's for sure!
Can't wait to see The Hobbit either, very curious to see RA as a dwarf ;)!
@TheBelle3009 Yeah, it's hard and difficult job, but someone has to do it, and as sketchy as these agencies can be, I do admire the people who work there, it takes a special kind of courage and insanity to do what they do. We see people like Tom in real life who burn out from their years in service. It's sad.
The One.Net has a photo-shopped version of RA in dwarf-look, actually pretty cool. He will do great for the movie. I'm so excited for him and Martin Freeman as Bilbo!

Anyways, if you want to, I also have started a fanfic series for Spooks that's an alternative ending to Series 9. It's set after Episode 6 but takes off in a different direction. It's basically how I envisioned Lucas's storyline should be. It's on fanfiction(dot)net under my account "Apollo199199", it's also on the Spooks Forum.
@BetaArtemis yes, but he could have killed Harry and he didn't. He chose to end himself. I think Lucas began moving away from disgrace when he admitted his murder of the real Lucas North and the lie of a life he had been living (even though alot of his acts on that chosen path were heroic). What was his final act? Self-sacrifice. For me, this is no disgrace.
@margike100 The disgrace is the storyline they decided to give him and nothing is going to convince me otherwise. The writers wanted a shock and awe and they got one with a storyline full of holes, so yes, this one will always be a disgrace. I love Lucas North, and frankly they gave him a sucky ending just for dramatics' sake.
@margike100 It doesn't take away from the acting because God knows Richard Armitage and his fellow castmates gave it all for this, without the amazing performances, this storyline would be a complete disaster, but it doesn't change that half the writing made no sense and came out of nowhere and depended on a whole bunch of technicalities and coincidences that were far too far-fetched. Not that it matters now, Spooks is gone now, so whatever, shame messed up a character with so much potential.
