jm9407 - I've not heard this for many years but your comments could have been written by me!!- I know and appreciate exactly what you are saying. - I've just played 'Orchard Road' by Leo Sayer and for slightly different reasons it has a similar effect - I don't know you but I suspect we are not a million miles apart!!
Did you see Bert Weedon in the audience at 0:03 ? What I dislike about this broadcast is audience clapping at 0:26, what is that all about? It's like the recognise the song? I very much doubt it. I think what happened stinks.
@deepindercheema HELLO IDIOT,,THE SHOW IS IN iRELAND iRELAND GAVE HIM A LIVING RE TV APPEARANCES,,,MOST OF HIS LIVE VIDS HERE ARE FROM iRELAND THE APPLAUSE IS JUST SAYING WELL DONE CLIFFORD AND THANKS FOR THIS SONG,,,,GET THE FACTS AND YE WONT LOOK LIKE A WANKER WANKER
@deeryker Actually, it is you who looks the wanker here merely for calling someone who posted an idiot and wanker.. Deepindercheema makes a valid comment and the real idiots are those who interrupt and drown out his performance to the detriment of others with their intrusive clapping. I would also suggest CTW would disapprove of it on artistic grounds and for a split second he does appear to be knocked off his stride by it.
@MadAndyBeckman obviously you were out of the room when brains were being distributed,,,I have sent your comment to the study hall of Trinity College Dublin,,,they are particularly good at deciphering common banal gibberish. Give that man a harrumph and fuck off,,,,there,,,ive said it,,,Im such a good person
@deeryker Your obsessive opinionating and commenting on those whocomment fills the void left by your inability to understand what is debated or the actual subject of the thread. Yes, I was out of the room when brains were being distributed having selected my own before you just had a leftover distributed to you by someone else. No wonder you need to send what you perceive as "banal gibberish" to be deciphered for you as that is all you have the mental capacity to relate to.
@MadAndyBeckman now that is a good reply,,,well done,,,it is worthy of a further comment,,,I will talk to my penis/cock/langer/mickey/dick/weapon/schlong/dong etc etc,,,if a comment is forthcoming,,,I will mail you.....MMMMMMM YOU ARE NEARLY CLEVER
This is one of the most beautiful, anthemic, touching, brilliant songs he ever wrote, always makes me cry when I hear it, mainly because he was so good a songwriter and is a great loss to us all. A much missed genious.
One of the most underated singer, songwriter, composers of our time. God Bless you Clifford and thank you for so much wonderful music and beautiful words.
I was browsing around a Charity Shop in Uckfield on Tuesday 9th March 2010 & found an abandoned album "No More Rock 'N' Roll" of Clifford's, that looked as if it had never been played! I grabbed the album for £1-99p then when I later heard TWO versions of "Up In The World" on that album, it brought tears to my eyes & I created a video around the song and dedicated it to my "Ex" ! (sniff, sniff)
@LittleBigVoice Isn't that the one with the song "Prams" on? I live in Dublin town and this song has always had special meaning for me as I spent many years pushing my three babies round this old town that Cliff was so fond of and where he was so loved.
@LittleBigVoice I bought that L.P. when it came out and I don't remember there being 2 versions of 'Up In The World' I'm wondering if you have got hold of a special version of the album. Brings back good memories as do many of his songs.
Ive had to come back...ive had a glass of wine with my wife..best friend..lover..soul mate..and as you do you feel a bit mellow and listen to some songs you havent heard for a long long time...well this is and most songs he wrote were special for some one at some time and when you listen to the words!!!!!!!....close your eyes and live them...rip ctw
This is such a beautiful song by a man who wrote some of the most outstanding songs ever...the words he wrote in this...Gaye...Home thoughts...what can I say!!!!
Years ago I'd forgotten this track when I heard Cliff Richard doing it. It got the Big treatment but not the CTW slant of simple beauty that we all love. Thanks to both Cliffs it still strikes a chord. Love it like I do for a lost love.
Christ! I just don't get through this video, without filling up on the back of life's memories, good and not so good. What a fine fine song sung by a fine fine singer.
It breaks my heart everytime I hear this song,I was 18 when this was released,I loved all his music and went to so many of his concerts, his music has spookily reflected my own life, when he was diagnosed with MS he really fought hard and again it broke my heart when he died, such beautiful music, such a sad loss but he leaves behind a legacy of wonderful songs,RIP dear friend.
@nbs20003 A London based band called School of Thought used to and very well too. I heard them play here in Dublin at a CTW convention and also in Kidderminster at the convention following his passing. At times their interpretations were uncanny. A girl called Anna Ruby was the female singer in the band and her voice was pure dark chocolate. Think she left to have a baby and I wonder where she is now.
this song is so moving and beautiful! i dont know a lot of clifford t wards songs but the ones i have heard almost bring me to tears! he is probably one of those very under-rated performers sad to say! i really do love his songs!!! thankyou for this :)!!!
Wow - what wonderful music! It encapsulates everything that is quintessentially English (dare I say). The wonderful poetry, understatement, quiet and classic instrumentation. Conjures myriad memories from a wonderful and gifted artist.
@stroodle222 You may well say the music is absolutely quintessentially English but the orchestra was Irish. A wonderful mix and a joy to watch as I remember back then and even more so now.
Dear ctwfan, Thank you so much for posting these videos. I was lucky enough to be at this performance. I played piano for Cliff on 'Home Thoughts..." on the same show that evening. I cannot remember the exact year but at a rough guess it would be circa 1980-1982 at the Castlebar Song Festival (?) CTW suffered from massive stage-fright and the tension was such that this vocal performance reduced me to a blubbering wreck...and still does. It is immaculate. The orchestra were wicked!
isnt it great to think i left school when he made this record it made me cry then ive never seen this footage 30 years later it has the same effect ....what a great voice he had blessed with the voice of an angel
clifford was so wonderful in how he sang his songs and the words used, its just a shame there wernt as many people people enjoying these lyrics than there should of been, its so sad to know he isnt isnt anymore, rest in peace clifford
such a graet talent great songs but seems like he doesent really like perfoming live maybe if he had done more of this his records might have been a bit more successful
As much as I love Clifford's songs I had never heard him sing this lovely song, let alone "SEE" him singing it. I have a version by Cliff Richard on a vinyl album in my dust-ridden archives and it really is a wonderful song, so thanks a zillion for putting this up for us to enjoy.
Thank you for making my day. This to me is the best song ever...So simple but so powerful..Still remember watching this live on the night. Everything is all righ in the world when Clifford's music is playing. Pat - Ireland.
Yes I was to travel to see Cliford live but had to watch it live on TV instead. My whole family were held spellbound like I'm sure were most of the people watching. I have been a fan and a friend since 1973 (13 at the time). Clifford's music has touched my life in so many ways.
