Love Van, love this track and really the lad or lassie that posted this with the in sync lyric..fantastic...while I'm here look up Candy Dulfer 'Let's get it on'.
She used to play sax with Van and she has taken up his philosophy in the fact that she surrounds herself with top musicians. Vocalists are Roger Happell and Moon Baker, guitarist is Ulco Bed..the track is unbelievable and I assure you, you will never hear a better live vocal..Roger Happell in particular...enjoy!
The spirituality in his lyrics is so profound even though he had "no method , no guru and no teacher". Chop wood and carry water Van the man, you are a legend and a man whos soul knows great depths.
IMHO his finest hour and a half, curiously the jap mini LP SHM cd edition got pulled at the last minute, guess some things are worth waiting for a little bit longer.
Is it possible to name one of Van's songs better than another. I know I say it all the time then hear another then another. The problem is this is a master of his craft we see so few of them. I love this song but the man has written so so many great songs. Fir me he is the best in music of my generation only Jackson Browne comes close. Thanks for this posting its beautiful on so many levels.
to say this is his best is a personal opinion for to me (In the Garden is one of the best songs ever song!!) now this one Hymns to the silence is a Master piece.....
I love "Celtic Ray" with the Chieftains as well as "Rave on John Donne", among others of course. Great Poet, Singer, Musician, Artist, and Soul......Best Poet of our time, in my opinion.
I have Nearly Every album tape Cd from the van and i almost forgot how this song MOVES ME TO TEARS. OMG Love the silence love Van LOVE LOVE LOVE HIM thank you vm! Master and Prophet

Thank the powers- that- be that you haven't always sung your hymns to the silence. Are you granted the personal appreciation of how your particular genius affects millions of people? I am constantly smitten. You awe me with your Soul, and I find myself wishing a bit of what you grant was meant for me, personally. I am helpless, however, to reciprocate. Except to say that I'm Much Obliged.
van morrison is part of a class of performers that goes beyond the expected, the easy-to-sell-albums, like Stevie Wonder, Duke Ellington, Patsy Cline, and many (but not enough) more.
what is there to say the lyrics say it all on everything he sings and writes end of conversation emh

This album turned me on to Van Morrison. What a sweet introduction. One of my favorite Van albums and I now have most all of them.
