Seeing that I am a MEGA cat fan(I have three 2 kittens 1 cat)cats make that weird noise mostly when they are at the start of a staring dual with another cat, but sometimes its for attention.
My cats do that if they see another cat outside or if they see raccoons or dogs. It's just a territorial thing I think. My male likes to stand up on his hind legs and slam the crap out of the door when he sees one though. hehe
A lot of cats do that as a warning to the other cats. I have 3 cats, one being female, and when she was in heat, male cats would come outside our house and fight each other, but first they'd make that noise. haha.
i was sleeping at my friends house like 3 days ago. We both woke up like 03:00 at the night hearing about 3 cats outside our window making the exact same noise :D That was creepy

Actually, he's done that before. I was at the computer like at 3am and he started making that noise. It was creepy. heh.
