The Video, together with the line " keeping an appointment she made with a man from the motor trade" ; to me sums up the vulnerability of a young runaway.

n the 1960's ,The man from the motor trade was often used as a Euphamism for drug dealer. Underlines the would be vulnerability of a teenager, particularly one who feels unloved, to people who play on that sort of situation.

Also the contradiction of the parents' wringing of hands that she has gone, and yet not understanding why.

i have loved this song forever, plus being a Beatles fan since 1964, i was deeply influenced by their music, i wrote a song in 1970 called "She's on her way" it will never compare to their song of course, but it was written with that song in mind. if you'd like to hear it, go to "She's on her way"  on youtube, once again there will never be a band like The Beatles ever again.
