  • I like guns but I love knifes bkz anyone can shoot someone from across the room but it takes a real man to get in his face

  • u should do something about a bowie knife!

  • sorry but your "blood groove" is meant for lateral (side to side) stability. same reason swords have them

  • 7 inch

  • that is cheap. I got mine for $82, but the guy was really friendly so I didn't mind doing business with him. You got a great deal though

  • the blood groove increases internal bleeding by creating a gap in the "plug" that the knife creates when it stabs into flesh. Think of it as a straw on the knife letting the blood out even when the knife fills the wound.

  • Too late for me to buy this?

  • The original KA-BAR's were not pinned they were peened aslo the sheaths were stapled not riveted.

The KA-BAR's with black rings between the leather washers were made by Circa 1976- 1979 and have pins in the pommel.

All others are cheesy knock offs! Dont judge this knife cause som douchbag kid broke it out of the box last year, its not real!

  • Union Cutlery Co. became Kabar Cutlery Co in 1951. It was sold circa 1966, to Cole National Consumer Products of Cleveland, who eventually closed the factory... I don't know the exact date, but not long after. By the mid 1980s, most if not all Kabar brand commercial knives except this one model were made in Asia. Ka-Bar ltd edition club knives were made in the USA, probably by Alcas, and possibly by other contractors, as well.

  • wet stones work best the pull sharpeners destroy the knife

  • @scallion205 diamond stones work better, and you can use them wet or dry

  • my sheath gets absolutely destroyed every time i put it back in

  • how many knives do you need bro?

  • @sherman614

i want to buy this same knife, mostly to collect and just to have but will i have the blade a long time if i only do some minor abusing?

  • this looks like the combat knife from fallout 3, i love that game,,,

  • I always thought the blood groove made it easier to withdraw the blade from a torso..Could be wrong, but makes sense to me

  • What do you use that mother for?

  • Jimi Hendrix makes any video better

  • sherman 614 are you from ohio

  • @jstheman42

    No

  • @sherman614 are you from mexico? i know a dude named sherman from mexico

  • @jstheman42 are you i am

  • you realy suck at doing reviews

  • @edwood777

Well then why do you keep watching them? And you seem to only be saying this about my 3 year old videos, looser. Why don't you get a life and review some knives for yourself and make some money at it, like myself. Since you say i suck so bad.

  • @sherman614

That’s a response of some on that was deeply hurt by the truth. I’m not the first to say that you reviews suck. Sorry

  • @edwood777

And yours is a response of true jealousy. If there was any truth in what you were saying, i might. But i have over 1million total video views, and over 1,600 subscribers. So i must suck far less then you, with your 2 subscribers. Plus, you're only commenting on a video i made when i was 16, that was 3 years ago. So, as i have said before. Back up your shit before you bash someone else. You have no reviews, so stop being a pussy key board commando and back up your shit. Thank you.

  • @sherman614 Justin Bieber has 25719487 views on one of his videos, they still suck. You have a total lack of practical knowledge of knives even on your resent videos.

  • @edwood777

Justin Bieber's following consists of girls from the ages of 10-17. That is a HUGE market, my following are people interested in knives. And ok, what knowledge do i lack? I do research on every knife I've reviewed recently, and have told guys who work in knife stores things about knives that they didn't even know. I don't claim i know everything. But saying i lack basic knowledge in knives is ignorant. If i did, then i wouldn't be a partner. Why don't you do some, then we'll talk.

  • @edwood777 Were are your reviews?

  • jimi hendrix is great

  • u should do a reveiw on the buck 119 and if u did plz tell me

  • Nice video man. I badly the K-BAR because it is an excellent knife. They were selling one at a WWII show this summer for like $50 and i wanted it but i was underaged so :(

  • For anybody who doesn't know, the blood groove on any knife, sword ect. is to make it easier to pull the blade out or push the blade in when stabbing something. Correct me if i'm wrong.

  • @happygokillmore

I always thought it was just a simple way too decrease the weight of the blade

  • @sherman614 I think its both

  • @sherman614 you were right. makes the blade lighter and strengthens it

  • @sherman614

    Decrease weight and stiffening.

  • @sherman614 Youre both correct but the blood grove is mostly for making the knife look cooler and shaving a little weight off

  • def the "blood groove" is made to make the blade lighter with the same amount of integrity. If you want to create a wound that wont stop bleeding... after you stab twist the blade... end of story

  • @sherman614 and add strength as well

  • @sherman614 do you recomend this or the tanto?

  • @happygokillmore

    You are correct!

  • @happygokillmore The cut out on this knife isn't a blood groove; it's to reduce weight, improve balance, and increase stiffness of the blade.

  • @happygokillmore you and Sherman are both correct. it's to reduce weight and easily pull the blade out. lol, what a weird coincidence

  • @happygokillmore it seems like you dont know lmfao. its actually to make the knife blade stronger.

  • @happygokillmore

"Blood groove". I hate that word. Know why? It's a fuller. On swords and large knives you use a fuller or two to reduce weight and att stiffness to the blade. The use of it on smaller knives is mostly cosmetical BUT it can double as an added grip on the blade, something which makes finer work easier.

  • @happygokillmore you are lol. It doesn't make it any easier to pull out after a stab. The point of a "fuller" is to strengthen the blade and decrease weight.

  • @happygokillmore your absolutely right!!

  • are knives popular in texas or something??

  • @theodicer I guess it's a cultural thing over here, either that or most people who own them have industrial jobs that involve the use of knives.I use mine for prying, cutting, and even smashing stuff out

  • I am currently a Marine I have 5 Ka-Bars and I get each one professionally sharpened out of respect of the blade and the history behind it. And as someone recently said you cant drag your finger across the blade without seeing bone. thumbs up.

  • I was trying to decide between this and the glock 81 survival knife, which do you recommend?

  • my friend found one on the side of the road the other day.

  • this is the ww2 version our modern day 1ns are suraded and mutch lighter then that one belive me im a marine corp spec ops soldier so iv worked with these knifes alot

  • rapist

  • The grooves are to let you pull out your knife after stabbing someone, They allow air to get in, because if they wheren't there the sucktion of the human body would hold your knife alot stronger than with those grooves.

  • Hey, nice background music. "Dolly Dagger" by Hendrix, ha. I knew I recognized it. Anyway, I'm looking to buy one of these, thanks for the review.

  • Hey, nice background music. "Dolly Dagger" by Hendrix, ha. I knew I recognized it. Anyway, I'm looking to buy one of these, thanks for the review.

  • im gonna order one of these soon but im gonna get the serated edge

  • Quick question: I'm thinking about purchasing this knife but I'm not quite sure if I want the one you're showing here or the version with a partially serrated edge. Are there any major pros or cons to having the serrated edge knife as opposed to the straight-edge version?

  • Ka BAr is official, check out my vid!

  • That grove has 2 purposes

    1-to lighten the blade.

2- do give more durability to the blade.

just in case u needed to know :)

  • i like your video! im going to buy me a KA-BAR but i cant make up my mine on witch one i want to buy! its like i want each ka-bar they ever made. the one that i may go with is the "KA-BAR USMC FIGHTING KNIFE" ITS THE ONE THAT I AM ALWAYS THINKING OF every one that i know who bought a ka-bar said its the best on earth and they are happy with it! :)

  • I'm guyin one today but all black.

  • great knife, i got one it's rasor sharp.

  • blod groove is about making blood flow away from the blade i heard

  • 43 bucks you got a damn good deal, theis are great knives.

  • Sherman, the blood groove was put on knives, swords and daggers to let the victim bleed out with the blade still in. The chinese bayonetts are spike with 4 deep groves down the entire length.

But yeah, the only thing it does is allows space around the blade to let blood out. Though its unnecessary really.

  • Dolly dagger by hendrix in the background?

  • Comment removed

  • isnt the blood groove there so u can pull the knife back out of a body,,,,,,due to the suction

  • if there is any suction at all its not much, and if you have stabbed something up to the fuller, then you dont really need to pull your knife out that fast, they are guna be dead soon, unless you are silly and stab them in the arm or leg, and you have a gun use that instead lol

  • @jst4shanell1 no its to shave weight

  • @jst4shanell1 no its for cleaning purposes

  • kant go wrong with a k bar

  • should i get this or the shorter version?

do you ever feel this blade is too big?

  • if you want it as a camping knife then this version is perfect. If want more of a utility fixed blade then you should get the smaller one =]

  • @sherman614

the blood grove on the Ka-Bar is there to help remove the knife after you stick it up to the hilt into someone

  • even for camping id suggest the shorter version,im taking míne into combat thats the only reason i got the full size, but i find its a little too big to be practical for most tasts around the house

  • so as a combat/tac knife the bigger one would be better?

  • no im saying if you plan to stick it into someone its gonna do more damage, even the bigger usmc is smaller than our bayonets.

  • @xDdevinexD dont talk shit kid

  • @xDdevinexD

I don't bare down when i do it, it's barely touching the blade.

  • @xDdevinexD quit being a fan boy. this knife is as sharp and better overall than your seal pup. your seal owes this knife respect. its his daddy.

  • @xDdevinexD quit being a fan boy. this knife is as sharp and better overall than your seal pup. your seal owes this knife respect. its his daddy.

  • @SuperJeremy25 i own both knives you ass-hole and i like the seal better the handle doesn't get all swelled up when it gets wet which is a weird problem for a MARINES knife.

  • @xDdevinexD how hard are you pushing down? cuz if u push down hard enough to do that u deserve to get cut

  • NICE music! haha what song?

  • Is the handle heavier than the blade?

  • Yes actually it is. But thats what you want, easy to control =]

  • Not what I want.

Chopping isn't as easy with a heavier handle. I also was considering this as a throing knife (yes, I know how silly that sounds) but, my throwing style doesn't really accomadate a heavy handle.

  • @lithjimmy Well, hence the fighting knife. For fighting :)

PS Sherman, they still use the KA-BAR 7 inch Fighting knife now as standard issue.

  • i have the one with a serrated edge

60 bucks but its totally my trusty blade

  • The blood grove doesnt cause more internal damage. The function of the feature is to assist in extracting the blade. Once it is thrust into a person it would be hard to remove due to a vacuum being created while withdrawing. This grove allows air to enter during extraction assisting in removal.

    Simper Fi

  • Um, no. That "blood groove" is just steel taken out to reduce the weight of the knife.

  • And to guide blood away from the users hand.

  • actually it's also to strenthen the blade

  • The purpose of the blood groove is exaactly as 420fritz stated, nothing more.

  • 'm pretty sure I already commented about this , but I really gotta comment --- why all the myth about the bloodgrrove ??

m4mike is correct , its to lighten the blade but also to give the blade RIGIDITY .

Mainly to give the blade RIGIDITY.

  • @420fritz cool, I heard it was called "blood gutter"

  • @420fritz

There is no such thing as a 'blood groove'. The section you are referring to is known as the 'fuller' and it exists for the sole purpose of reducing weight while adding durability to the blade. Human flesh is soft and squishy, meaning you can thrust a metal object into it and remove it with ease. Have you ever had any trouble getting your spoon out of a jello cup or your knife out of the butter? My guess is probably not, so why do you think it would be any harder with a person?

  • @420fritz you can speculate all you want. And I am not certain the purpose of the groove. But I know for fact that a bayonet when thrust into a person will stay stuck. it was common practice for a soldier to place his foot on the man he just bayoneted and push with all his might just to remove it from him. This was because of a vacuum that occurs while extracting the bayonet. A similar grove was placed on bayonets to assist in removal. This I know is true.

  • @420fritz Actually, as knife manufacturers have confirmed, it's called a fuller and it's meant to lighten and stiffen the blade. The "blood gutter" thing is just a myth.

  • @420fritz That would be incorrect sir. Lol

  • @420fritz im not sure about assisting in extraction of the blade but you make a good pont. i thought the main feature of the blood groove in general was to strengthen them by giving them a cross section and lightening the blade correct me if im wrong. Btw if u are looking at purchasing a kabar take a look at the new generation D2 version alot of great reviews and even destruction tests out there for them either way kabar make beastly knives

  • @L134r ..yea your right about the blood grove..I did some research not long ago and found out that the grove actually makes the blade more ridged and lightens it a bit. But when I was just a boy in the service I had a Sargent tell me that other tail with full conviction that I believed it until this day. I have this Ka-bar and I checked out the generation D2 , it looks pretty sweet. I have my eye on the Ka-bar large Bowie right now though. Happy new year to you...

  • @420fritz DO OR DIE!

  • @420fritz It also creates a stiffness like an I beam for the blade

  • @420fritz thank you finally someone who knows what they are talking about

  • @420fritz you are wrong as hell. A human body if stabbed can not make any form of vacuum or suction, Make the groves on the side of the knife is to take weight off of the blade, also it makes the blade stronger, It may not make sense, but it is true, that is why I beams are made they way they are. I spoke to a Vietnam captain and he totally agreed with me.

  • I have the serrated model. Well worth it. I used it to strike my flint and start my campfire this cold weekend. STOP ARGUING OVER THE DAMN REPILCA/RWAL THING bullshit!

  • same

  • This is definitely not a replica. It's exactly the same knife as used in WW 2, it's just made with better materials nowadays, by Ka-Bar.

The sheath is a USMC sheath, you probably have a different one (i.e. US ARMY).

  • The fact that it is produced nowadays and wasn't used in Vietnam doesn't mean it's a replica. Ka-Bar still produces these knives using the same specs as they used back in WW 2 time. If it isn't made by Ka-Bar then yes, it's a replica. Check the Ka-Bar website to see how they still make these knives. this one seems to be stamped Ka-Bar, Olean N.Y. (at 0:45) I bought mine directly from an authorized Ka-Bar dealer in USA abd it's exactly the same. And where does he say it's a replica??

  • No, you don't know the meaning of "replica" (= copy that is not the original, a copy that is relatively indistinguishable from the original), while this is exactly the same knife as used in WW 2 only it has been in production ever since and it's made more recently, by exactly the same company and the same specs. It's just newer and never used in WW2 but it cannot be called a replica or a copy or not authentic. A replica is often a "toy" or a fake imitation made by another company, etc.

  • If you research , you'll find that during WW2 and after many makers have made this knife to govt specs.

Camillus , Ka-bar , ontario case , + others made this same knife for service use.

In fact you'll find Ontario have been the contracted manufacture more recently than ka-bar.

Also Ka-bar only recommenced manufacture of these in the late 70's.

seems like almost everyone had a go at these knives and theyre all refered to as a ka-bar as a generic term.

  • Yes, I am aware of that. I collect and use many different knives and, when I purchased my USMC Ka-Bar, I wanted the Ka-Bar brand (for historical reasons), even if I knew that Camilus actually produced far more of these knives than Ka-Bar ever did.

Moreover, this is not an original design at all. Its design is derived from the Marbles Ideal Hunting Knife.

  • LoL then between us , we're educating.

your totally correct I of course regarding the proto Ka-bar hunting knife.

    Rgds

  • i have the very same exact knife

  • Haha, dude has southern excent witch meens he is stoopid.

  • can i use an auto-sharpener to sharpen the blade?

  • the blood groove is meant to let whatever you have stabbed bleed out without takin the knife out. If your knife is still in the wound, itll actually act as a clot sortof if it doesnt have the groove. The groove lets air in which in turn makes blood go out......

  • u r absolutely rite man finally someone who knows wat there talkin about

  • That's a myth man. There just for looks and to make the blade lighter.

  • im tellin you your wrong man, look i really dont wanna have a virtual argument because thats just gay. your entitled to your opinion but ive looked it and had my brother show me that is what it is for, or at least thats what theyre taught in they army. If you disagree well then ok thats your opinion and i really dont know what difference it would make in the world if i kept arguin until you believed me so lets just leave it at this. good vid though.

  • youre right. there is no way its just to make the knife lighter.

  • Do you have a Gerber EVO

  • And strengthens the blade, much like an I-beam does in large building construction.

  • that knife is beautiful, where'd you get it nd how much?

  • they're around $24 ish

  • Do yourself a favor and buy the "short" version. It is 5 1/4", instead of 7 inches, so it is legal to carry, in Texas at least. Not that I carry this thing anyway. But hiking I like to carry a large blade, the butt of the handle is good for hammering tent stakes.

Ditch the cheap sharpeners, they do not allow for angle adjustment. Most cheap sharpeners seem to be 23 degree, this knife is 20 degree, so that is why it ruined your blade.

Learn to hand sharpen, you'll be amazed how sharp it can get

  • You can buy em on ebay and many other websites. If you are looking for one at a store they should carry them at a store with a wider variety with brand name knives. Not like wall mart.

  • Finally Got my USMC Ka Bar. It is a superb Knife.

  • my dads got this navy seal knife from proly late 80's i dont know if the style has changed though ill have to get a video of it. and if i figure out how to get the video on here ill recomend the 3 or 4 people that will watch iot lol to watch your videos. you know your shit, and you explain every thing real well great videos, all of them

  • My friend says that its lets oxygen around the knife and makes it easier to pull out thats what i was thinking but it sounded (the way i was thinking) wierd then he explained it better and i now understand but i dont know about you lol

  • I was told the blood groove was also to make the knife easier to pull out of the body. My friend might be wrong about this however. Some talk on here about the blood groove i might google it might be a good idea.

  • The Ka Bar comes with a convex edge so thats why your sharpener ruined the edge. if you want to sharpen it sharpen at an angle

  • nice knife and most importantly the knife. good info too. 5 stars all the way!!!

  • However, I have to say you really got a bargain... mine cost 134 euros, but then again, shipping from the USA, customs etc... no wonder! It was worth every penny, tough! The same thing tha fascinated you (WW2 Marines ...) send shivers down my spine as well. It's a historical piece, eventough it's new, it is a legend and a symbol of the greatest moments in history of the Corps!

  • LOL... I bought mine just two weeks ago. A company here in Slovenia sells many Ka-Bar products, but I couldn't believe they would have it as it is such a great wepon. I notoced all the advanteges as well, you're right very light and it fits so well into your hand. I am not really experienced with combat knives, most of whirling and tricks I know are with butterfly and lock blades, but I could pull some nice stunts quite soon, and all due to this things perfection!

  • Love it

  • Cool knife; and Hendrix in the background is way cool too.

  • Comment removed

  • hey bud its a 7'' blade just got one today look on the box it even shoes u

  • Hey great vid. You have awesome reviews and beautiful knife, I must say.

  • Thank you very much =]

I'm going to be making new ones and redoing all my old ones in more detail. So stay tuned :D

  • well the blood grooves arent really for causing more internal bleeding its for when you stab someone with it it lets the blood pour out the sides better letting them bleed out faster thats all.

  • idiot

  • The proper term is fuller. Blood grove was nothing but a marketing gimmick. The purpose of fullers was to lighten and stiffen swords. On shorter knives it's nothing but aesthetic.

  • Props to you.

  • pretty funny how i know a guy from the army who said it was a blood groove

  • When you stab someone, the skin closes up, and there comes less blood, but when you have a blood groove and you stab someone, let the knife in, the skin won't close the blood grooves, and the blood will leak out od the body much more faster.. (Sorry my bad english)

  • uh its actually a fuller, and its used to lighten the blade while at the same time stiffen it, just like an I beam. It doesnt make a person bleed out more or make the blade come out easier, a stab wound is a stab wound

  • srry nvm

  • that 7 inches or how long i mean the blade

  • thats the older USMC Ka-Bar..the newest issue is so sharp that you wouldn't dare to test the sharpness on yourself unless you want to get seriously fucked up

  • How do you tell the difference between the new and old versions?

  • he says in the video he used one of those shitty hand held v shaped sharpeners you use on kitchen knives. So essentialy he used a sharpener made for dull kitchen knives on a knife that was really sharp already. Kabars shouldnt be sharpened with anything but stones. and yeah ur right, from ka bar those things will rip you in two.

  • just make sure you don't use the leather sheath as it retains moisture and will rust the blade.....the nylon eagle sheath is awesome and worth it! i bought mine separately and makes the knife look even better and it very sturdy!

  • Very nice knife, my son got me one for a Christmas present while he was at Camp Lejeune. As a matter of fact I sharpened mine today, it doesn't take much to sharpen it and holds a good edge!

  • ...by letting air in.

    btw nice knives/review

  • Yeah I heard that crap about the blood groove before and others :)

Then I heard one that made at least a little more sense..in that when a large knife is stabbed in there is sometimes suction when withdrawing the blade making it more difficult and slower, and the 'BloodGoove' helps eliminate this.

  • nice knife

  • what does usmc stand for?

    united states motorcycle club mayvbe?

    someone tell me please?
