I'm so happy when I hear people that still really _sings_. It's a real live performance, not a "show", but different every night so you can hear it's no playback, it's nothing fixing the pitch or whatever. It's real.
DAMN it people. I'm going to settle this for all of you who somehow love music and have NO idea how hard it is to tour for MONTHS AT A TIME. HE HASN'T LOST ANY RANGE. YOU DO NOT LOSE RANGE WITH AGE. He just sings this s*** every damn day on tour. Working ANY muscle in your body every day gives it no time to recover. Do you have any idea how small the vocal muscles are? YOU try screaming every day for 2 WEEKS, let alone months, and see if you can even TALK the next day. F*CK!
Hmmm... then you are doing it wrong. It's actually really easy to scream for a couple of hours each day months on end. If you are doing it right. Simple as that.
And all muscles are not the same. Like the heart for instance. If the heart would need a break now and again, you would be dead. Just breaking it down for ya, bubba.
OK. I'll bite. Post a video of yourself and demonstrate for us. Since it's so easy for you I'd like to see you sing even something easy like "The night" by Disturbed. Prove me wrong, chief.
What would that prove? That I can do it? That would be a looong video. It also wouldn't say anything about any other singer. Not much of a proof. This is youtube after all. But do the research, you might be surprised.
That's what I thought. It was to prove you couldn't perfectly execute even ONE easy song as you claim let alone do it for hours/months 'easily'. I've done the research. Complete Vocal Technique by Carolyn Sadolin. It explain all forms of singing and technique. Read it.
You need to read up a bit on "proof", you really didn't stick it to me there. Try again when you have.
And good for you, CVT is probably the best stuff out there, but if you would have a better grasp of it, you would know that you can "scream" without hurting or even significantly tireing your voice, as long as you do it right. That screaming always wears the voice down or is dangerous etc is a myth, which you also should know, bubba. ;)
I never said screaming damages the voice OR that I have problems with said technique above. Review the thread. Literacy, bro.
Original point: It's hard to scream for months at a time ON TOUR.
Why? Drinking, smoking, poor sleep (say, on a bus), poor diet, partying, etc.
Could this be why? Wait, you're saying it's really because nobody knows how to sing like you do. Ready to prove you can sing anything easily yet? Thought so.
yeah man you cant expect a guy who sang amazing for fuckin 15-20 years to keep that same range. its damn near impossible. he may have lost a bit, but hes still the best singer going today.
It's not 100% but it still sounds great. WTF is wrong with you people? Who else is going to do "Beyond the Wheel" the same way? I'm glad he's still doing it, still creating music. I don't expect him to scream like he used to - that wasn't the only great thing about his voice, you know...
What's on the video sounds pretty good - I'd prefer he not risk screwing his top range up by touring and to save it for recording, but still - it sounds much healthier than it did...
Pls check my favorites, there are 2 performances of "Fell on black days" one in 1999 & the other in 2000. Those are the last performances of the Chris of the 90's. I got tears from hearing those, especially the one of 2000.
I saw him when he was touring solo (euphoria morning). And his performance was so impressive that it actually took me a few days to recover from the impact. I was not alone with that experience. My friends felt the same.Weird, isnt it?
That's very cool! I wish I had been there but I can see how it was from the posted videos. Maybe that's why it makes me a bit sad. But yeah, nobody can deny that still sounds awesome and I still devour the new music he makes! :D
This is one of my favourite songs of all time....I couldn't believe it when he played it. He was so mind-blowingly incredible that night, I was floored. Thanks for the post, my friend just sent me this link. If I ever learn how to use youtube, I'll post my video of the chorus of Like a Stone that turned out awesome.
i was at the NYC show i want to go to the one in boston now,the most amazing concert ive ever been too very private and intimate only 1200 ppl PLZ come to upstate NY!!!!!!
Once upon a time I deliberately got myself pulled out of the crowd (Soundgarden supporting G'n'R @ Wembley) just so I could get 10 seconds of perfect closeup of Mr. Cornell ;-)

I didn't even realize for years that the clown was Tim Curry, maybe I wouldn't have been as afraid, but I refused to ever watch IT ever again.

i'd be so down going to see him try and perform these songs like that.

well, he might have lost a bit of his range, but his voice is still better than like 99% of people

Thank Lord his voice is back!

It's far from that.
Look for the video "beyond the wheel" and you'll see what we've lost.

Yeah I saw SG `92, and I know what we have lost. Check out " "slaves and bulldozers live" or "Jesus Christ pose". Damn that man had some pipes.
