Obviously Jermaine didn't play bass in the studio for the J5; does anyone know if he really played it in performances? Old footage indicates the possibility.
Wow!!! The best played "I want you back" on the tube. So smooth. Could you beak it down for us? A "how to" or something. Thanks for posting dude ...you are awesome
HAHAHAHA, Great cover, you play almost the same as the original, and sound's great... most other player like to do much improvisation, well that's good, but sometimes the original are the best...
I personally always enjoy to play the original bassline... thx for your upload pal.. :)
Fantastic dead notes and tasty fills... I love that you didn't just replay Jamerson's original line (amazing as it was!) and fit your own thing in. :-)
you are a great bass player man you need to make more videos and try teacher in some because i would love to learn this stuff because i play just church music
@MetalElf, you are right and wrong! Right about the J5 did not played intrstuments on their records! Wrong when you said that they just sung and dance! Tito and Jermaine had to learn every song the Motown musicans gave them, because they played them live at concerts! By 1974 the J5 produced their first record on their dad label called Ivory records, song Whats your game by MDLT Willis!
My favorite bass cover of, "I Want You Back," one you tube. Something about the tone, I guess. A few hooks, too, not on the original track . . .very, very cool. Nicely done!!
Beautifully precise and still effortlessly bouncing all over it - you absolutely nailed it - easily the best cover of this bassline i've found on youtube - i'd LOVE to hear you covering some of Bootsy Collins bass playing with the JB's...
DO ME A FAVOR..... YOU MAKE EVERYTHING LOOK SO EASY SO I WANT YOU 2 SHOW ME HOW TO PLAY ILL BE THERE........CUZ IM KINDA A BEGINER AND I NEED HELP.... So please respond to me!!!!!!!! thnx☻
Clean, well played, and stoic as hell. I thought you were going to fall asleep as some points! I hope one day I can play a song that fluid with out trying so damn hard. Kudos man keep it up :)
Actually, Wilton Felder played bass on the J5 recording in 1969. Not to take anything away from Jermaine, but Felder has long been regarded as one of the premier session bassists in the industry.
This was the first Motown hit to be recorded in LA with SoCal session players.
just because they are holding a bass while dancing and singing; doesn't mean they are playing it. All the videos I've seen, he's clearly just holding it for looks and trying to look like hes playing it. I dunno if it was just the videos I saw or what, but it's a possibility he never REALLY played it.
@zepp1977 It was Wilton Felder who played the bass for this Jackson Five song, not Jermaine. As far as I know, the Jackson Five only sang and danced. I don't think Tito or Jermaine ever played on any of the Motown records while in the the Jackson Five.
