im currently helping someone devolop a hydrogen fuel cell for cars, vans and HGVs, on a car or van it works brilliantly but when we put one on a HGV the water turns brown in about a week and knackers the cell, everything is made from stainless steel and there is a drip loop and a non return valve on the outlet pipe so no natural water can run back into the tank but it is baffling us, can you please give me any indication as to why this mite be happening

What you are producing is hydrogen and oxygen. That is why it exploded with the match. Hydrogen comes off the positve and oxygen off the negative anodes. find a why to isolate the anode plates to in the electrolite to capture hydrogen only. IF you wanted to make gasoline burn hotter and more explosive, mix with oxygen and you can melt down an engine. Same with hydrogen and oxygen which is the same as rocket fuel. What you get out of this is not Hydrogen (H) But HHO, that is with electrolysis you split the water molecules into atoms H and O, and then he takes both gases and let them out, that is why it pops.... Had it been only hydrogen the flame would have died... (Everyone did this experiment in 8th grade)... To get only hydrogen you need to split the electrolysis into to gas outlets (one from the positive side and one from the negative side.

He's not telling the whole story. Distilled water doesn't conduct electicity. You need an electrolite. What did he use? Why didn't he mention it? The goal is to sell an unsuspecting audience a device they believe will run their car when in reality the best you could hope for is a mpg. The problem is that safe and efficient electrolites cost more money then the system can save. There's also an issue with modern cars and their O2 sensors, computers need to be reprogramed.

This is dangerous, having hydrogen and oxygen on the same container, on the experiment I'm familiar with there were two columns connected and each column had one electrode, on one column you would get the hydrogen and on the other the oxygen, hydrogen burns very violently, I don't know what is the flash point but I would feel sorry for this guy if one molecule of H decided to join with a molocule of O, the others would follow and CABOOM!

Actually, the molecule of H doesn't exists alone. It must combine with another H (H2), and the same for O (O2), so they are in a stable state.

Where this experience is dangerous is that there is no flame arrestor, preventing any possible backfire when H2 is ignited.

As a fuel for an internal combustion engine it seems to be worth the amount of energy put in. Maybe we'll have to plug our water powered cars in over night to convert water to a tank of fuel, but after that a regular car battery could recharge as the car drives and continue the process. actually magnetic motor requires electricity. This electricity can be generated from a fuel cell using hydrogen and oxygen. The problem with this is they need to be pure and that is expensive. Using a regular piston engine, the hydrogen and oxygen do not need to be at high pressures nor pure so it works better with this. Obviously not as efficient however much cheaper. You can also do a hydrogen gasoline hybrid and increase power and efficiency. MPG increases at about 30-40% are common.

baking soda works better. with distilled water alone, you will not make anything. Add baking soda and this will be much better. Salt water will corrode things much faster. You can use stainless steel plates however salt water will gum them up and reduce efficiency. Baking soda wont do that.

Where do you get a number like (4x as powerful)? Out of your ass? You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. Combustion of hydrogen is wasteful and difficult as the fuel/air ratio is much different than gasoline. You cannot just pump hydrogen into a regular internal combustion engine... especially modern ones with fuel injection. And hydrogen fuel is not cheaper than gasoline, because its storage and manufacture is very expensive. I know, because it's what I do. So grow get a clue.

We know how many liters of hydrogen and oxygen we get from a liter of water, but I have never done the calculations for gasoline and what vapor contents would result. I would imagine a lot of that would depend on what compounds were used in making the gasoline as it changes depending on what additives are used at the time.

H2 production from H2O is no mystery. The two methods - electrolysis and fuel cell were first documented circa 1840. What is required is an efficient method to produce the Hydrogen. GE are I believe the leaders and are getting close to the "required" efficiency. There are other players but not a massive number. The other side of the coin is HFC vehicles. Honda appear to be the leaders. There are a number of other players with similar technology.
